Thunderbolt is a big possibility. Actually I'm surprised Apple hasn't decide to use it yet now, in line with iPhone 4s launch last month since most Mac family have them. And you know Apple want them to be succeed or even surpassing USB 3.0

But the question is, does the iDevice with current dock connector can utilize Thunderbolt bandwidth, or we will stuck with USB 2 speed?

Or more importantly, will they change the design of the dock that has been there for years? I hope they don't and we just can get a Thunderbolt to dock connector.

I would be impressed if Apple used a connector that most Windows PCs (and quite a few Macs) don't have. Not to mention you lose compatibility with pretty much every car radio that supports iPod/iPhone (via USB).

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, but allowing Siri to work with third-party apps?

Nevermind, someone did. Yay. But yeah, that and NFC would be good times for me.

I was talking more about updates from within the app after it has been downloaded. Like when push notifications are used, the info mentioned is ready to go right away....no waiting a few seconds for your info to load. It seems like a logical extension from the original multitasking, but when I think about it I think they will wait a few more years to implement this. It's too big of a feature.

They could always go the route of the 3.0 iOS update, and throw in 5 or 6 'medium' upgrades. I'm leaning towards this for my prediction.

I hope that is the case. It would suck to have to wait another year for adding widgets and things like that

FYI: the led notification light was included with iOS 5. Pay attention.
Personally, I don't want file storage. This is a phone, not a computer.
Wrong. It's a computer that can make phone calls. Pay attention.

Also, know what a real LED notification is before correcting someone who does know it.

  1. 4G LTE
  2. LED notification - this is good for people who keep their phone on silent most of the time or those who are hearing impaired - they'll know they have updates/notifications without having to press the home button to wake the device
  3. Push email for non-exchange/iCloud addresses
  4. Out-of-the-box notification settings for multiple email accounts

NFC for quick purchases, accessing buildings, etc is what is really missing

Would be great to walk into a corner store and purchase a few things by swiping your phone, pay for drinks at the bar, get something from a vending machine, have your hotel keycard sent to your phone on booking, etc

No more pocketful of coins :)

Toggle Widgets. So I can switch things like wifi and bluetooth with one button.

Customizable home screens. I need to be able to delete Newstand.

Yes, I know, Android does this. iOS should too.

Possible new stuff:

- New Maps from Apple itself.
- New UI with radical changes or little ones.
- Thunderbolt instead of USB connections.
- Real multitasking.
- Better integration with Lion somehow.
- More social integration in contacts and/or the OS with Facebook and such.
- Better Siri.

There are already widgets on iOS 5, or at least thats how Apple believes widgets should be on iOS, so dont expect new type of widgets any time soon.

Thunderbolt is an excellent idea, But there would need to be a USB cable included also. Not everyone has thunderbolt. I do, So it'd be badass.

No one cares about that, there's enough free turn by turn apps. Most people don't would rather purchase a standalone gps system. I think the big iOS 6 feature will be Flash, or a innovative new keyboard design.

Way to speak for everyone.

I care about it. If it's slicker than what's offered now, I'm interested.

Both have nothing to do with iOS.

The majority of the people in the world don't own their own cars, especially in the city, and don't do a lot of driving. Lots of people would like it, but far from "everyone".

I assume by "the city", you mean NYC. Umm there are quite a bit of cars on the congested streets. Yeah and NYC is what Apple with model all of their potential features for....

How about you guys kill the wish list and just get an Android. Ok maybe for a one contract term and just go back to Apple later. Sounds to me that all crap you all want is served up by Android, just go get one already......

Ahh so it's bad for people to want features from the company they prefer?

xd, even if you don't own a car imagine you want to find an adress *while walking and you don't have a data plan it could be useful.

or biking in the forest and you want to find a certain spot.

Or basically it wouldn't only have to be limited to cars but i can imagine it being used in sports and other activities as well.

-Downloading an application doesn't close app store (this should take Apple like 5 minutes to implement)
-Overhaul to the download/install indicator (I would like something like the android version where you can see the progress of each download install better with visible download speeds)
-Graphical calculator
-Resource management, so I can see how much CPU/memory apps are using currently.

Oh this one is LONG overdue: don't yank us out of app store if we choose to download or update an app! It's ridiculous since we can obviously go back to the app store while the app downloads in the background.

Michael

I completely understand why some posters in this thread want Apple to allows themes, maybe via the AppStore. IMO I think this will never happen, and please don't confuse this with me not wanting it (because I do).

Apple is all about making a unified, clean UI/GUI experience for their customers, across all devices. Allowing themes would cause too much uniqueness/fragmintation per customer - not something Apple wants.

Sucks, but it's the bottom line, they won't allow it (at least not any time soon).

And how is software supposed to address the majority of your list? You're in the wrong thread. This is the iOS feature list.

Personally, I don't want file storage. This is a phone, not a computer. People need to understand that apple's got a computer business to also support. Think realistically people.
Seeing Siri integrated into more apps would be nice. However, that's not a big one. Also, I think widgets are too small fry (and battery draining) to be a big feature.

I'm mostly with you on this. Access to the file system is a real grey area in my mind. I don't want to deal with it on my phone, but I might on my iPad. File access in iCloud is still a little crazy to me. You can sync files to iCloud, but they're still tied to that app. So if I edit a document on my iPad in Numbers, I won't see it in a different app on my iPhone. I first have to open Numbers, get the update, then send it from Numbers to the other app. Why? What happens if I'm using an app that's not universal, but has separate iPhone and iPad versions (I avoid these whenever possible, but it happens)? Am I SOL?

As for what we'll see in iOS 6, I'm sure that's when we'll see an SDK for Siri. I'm guessing that apps will be able to register that they can handle requests for certain verbs and other words, along with what sort of information Siri should query for. So GPS apps could register that they handle the phrases "navigate", "guide me", or "take me to." Then the user could say "Take me to 123 Main Street" or "Guide me to 123 Main Street" and Siri would know to launch the appropriate app.

iPhone OS 2.0 - App Store
iPhone OS 3.0 - Cut, Copy, and Paste
iPhone OS 4.0 - Multitasking
iOS 5 - Notifications
iOS 6 - Maps

Eh, I probably missed some things.

No one cares about that, there's enough free, utterly woeful, horrible to use, not worth the space they take up, absolute turd, turn by turn apps. Most people don't would rather purchase a standalone gps system. I think the big iOS 6 feature will be Flash, or a innovative new keyboard design.

Fixed that for you.

I don't use TomTom enough to justify the £49.99 price, so a top quality Apple alternative as part of iOS would be very welcome. Especially utilising C3's technology.

The current free turn by turn apps really are awful though.
