"Life Control"

Siri expands and gets more robust. Can control your phone. Your TV. Your car's electronics. Your dishwasher.

I think the comparison of FaceTime to Siri is a joke. I use Siri and/or dictation 20 times a day. I never even back at launch expected to use FaceTime at all. I do plenty of video chat but it's with Tango. Works on 3G.

I like this, but that isn't as much an apple update as everyone else. I think it should be something to do with siri though. All of the other things are stuff apple has already ruled out in the past, and they aren't going to do it by popular demand. They have always been known for innovation, giving us the things we don't even know we need yet. For that reason, flash, maps, etc. won't become standard.
Although, the one technology that is here already that isn't used is the wireless charging... I've heard that it is terrible on the batteries, but now that we have wireless sync, the charging would complete that idea. I hate those cables...

A Documents folder would without a doubt be a big step forward for productivity. They don't have to open up the file system entirely. Just this one folder that any app can open from and save to via a standardized dialog.

-Turn-by-turn navigation (iMaps)
-Possibly a sports app
-Deeper/more advanced Siri integration
-Safari will be snappier ;)
-Probably greater OSX and iCloud integration
-More screen mirroring options

Things we will not see:
-Flash
-Full multitasking

Mapquest

The majority of the people in the world don't own their own cars, especially in the city, and don't do a lot of driving. Lots of people would like it, but far from "everyone".

Staggering logic.

Here is what I miss on my 4S (coming from a jailbroken 3GS):

- Quick access to brightness, VPN toggle, AirPlane mode toggle, 3G toggle, etc.
The Notification Center is there, it just needs quick-access controls (like SBSettings).

- Reply to Text (SMS/MMS/iMessage) from within any app, without having to close that app or switch to the full messaging app (like BiteSMS).

- Pull to Refresh for Mail (like MailEnhancer).

- 3D transitions/animations when changing screens (like Barrel).

- User pictures on the list of Contacts (like Cyntact).

- Custom Lock Screen, with widgets (like LockInfo) or just a different style or clock (like many themes).

Those would be huge. iOS 5 already has most of the big jailbreak features, but there are a few more that would make the system perfect.

Other minor things that may never happen:

- Hide/Remove the carrier logo (like CleanStatus).
- Some sort of theming ability. Applying the "Ubuntu" font would look great (like BytaFont).
- Hide/Disable Spotlight (like NoSpot).

Also, things like Flash and "Real" Multitasking are horrible ideas and will never happen.
Flash is terrible, performs poorly, and is on its way out. "Real" Multitasking isn't necessary and can also hurt performance. Apple's way of doing multitasking is great for small devices.

Last year it was "Face Time", now you don't see hardly anything about it here in the forums. If we aren't using it, the mainstream is not either. It's too complicated for the average iPhone user.

I use FaceTime almost every day with my 6 year old daughter. If its not to complicated for her, I think most other people can figure it out. If not, here are the instructions.....

1. find person you want to FaceTime in your contact list
2. press the FaceTime button

I know its extremely complicated, but I think with practice, most people will be able to handle it.

THEMES!!!

I completely understand why some posters in this thread want Apple to allows themes, maybe via the AppStore. IMO I think this will never happen, and please don't confuse this with me not wanting it (because I do).

Apple is all about making a unified, clean UI/GUI experience for their customers, across all devices. Allowing themes would cause too much uniqueness/fragmintation per customer - not something Apple wants.

Sucks, but it's the bottom line, they won't allow it (at least not any time soon).

Yea, I don't understand their stance on customization to the themes and sounds. Remember the whole "think different" ad?

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do. - Apple Inc.

I love the quote, but now they seem to be trying to fit everyone into their square holes by controlling every detail so tightly. :(

pic too small brah

Off the top of my head,

* free navigation
* NFC
* 4G LTE
* thinner form factor
* LED notification light

Led notification light already exists in ios5 go to setting>general>asseccebility> led notification on.
Bang....

I think what he wants is a dedicated light on the front of the iPhone.
Exactly. LED camera flash ≠ LED notification light

It doesn't really do much good if your phone is face up on a table and the camera flash blinks.

An LED notification light is more akin to the pinhole light next to a webcam indicating it is on. It's small and subtle and on the front face of the phone.

Usually of there is a message, the screen lights up. This is done with a led, so technically a led does flash up whenever you get a message.
Why would you need another flash to know there is a message!??

The screen turns off after a few seconds to conserve battery life. So it is possible to miss it. In contrast a dedicated light, which uses very little power, could remain on until you've checked it.

Imagine this scenario as an example. You keep your phone on a desk while you go about doing things in your house. You walk by it occassionally. Currently, there's no way to know you have a message unless you walk by in the few moments after the message is received when the screen is on. Rather than turn your screen on every time you walk by the phone, it'd be nice to have a blinking LED tell you whether there's anything to check for in the first place. You can set different colors for emails, missed calls, voicemails, texts, Facebook messages, etc.

It's not like this is a glaring oversight on Apple's part or anything...but for many people who are coming from an Android phone, this tends to be one of those features that they miss.

I would definitely love a real update to the Maps.app. It's been lagging for a few years now. The recent rumors/analysis makes it all highly exciting.

If iOS 6 is supposed to be released with a new iPhone, then I'm praying to God that they finally drop the archaic and annoying home button in lieu of a gesture based home button that can finally destroy all home button woes and problems. That would be a nice addition to the iOS.

Oh hey, perhaps iOS 6 will be released alongside a new Bluetooth 4 equipped iPod Nano. It could then include features like wirelessly managing the smaller device's music and photo libraries, syncing your reminders, and using the Nano as a remote control.

For one:

Redo the status bar so notifications would be placed there if you ignore them. Took the android route already, might as well finish it off now.

Unfortunately, because Apple couldn't be bothered to put an LED on the front of the phone, you have to lay it screen side down for this to be of any use. I don't know about you, but I avoid laying my phone screen side down at all costs.

-A redesign would be nice. iOS is functional, but it's hardly attractive 4 years later. Doesn't need to be drastic, but I think it can be refined more so it doesn't seem so stale. e.g. live tiles like WM7?

-A good, centralised file management system would be great, but I don't think Apple will be keen on it.

Fixed that for you.

The current free turn by turn apps really are awful though.

I find MapQuest 4 Mobile to be very good. I also have Navigon, which is great, but MQ4M loads much, much faster, and has a better List view (with a great, always present, toggle between list and map views).

I'm curious about whether or not you've tried MapQuest for mobile recently and what you've found lacking.
