Bad advice, it's way late to try ebay. .

eBay is still the best bet. Most people buying an iPad know ALL about the iPad 3 and are looking for a bargain. There are fees involved but over all eBay will attract the most buyers and a higher selling price than CL.

eBay is flakers galore. So even if OP's auction ends at a decent price there is no guarantee the winner will actually pay. And that's even more precious days where the iPad 2 will continue to depreciate.

I can't believe some of the idiocy on here, particularly those that say eBay is your best bet. Who wants to deal with paying eBay a 10% fee on top of dealing with shipping issues?

I sold by 16gb Black Wifi 2 for $400 with a smart cover for cash in New York last week. I met the guy at a McDonalds and had the cash in my hand 10 minutes later.

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

You're right that selling price will likely be higher on ebay; but that's only good for bragging rights. What matters is the net amount in-pocket after fees and shipping. From what I'm seeing of used completed sales on ebay in the last day ($380 to $450), net in pocket looks to be in the $335 to $380 area after fees. From what I see on CL here, putting a clean 16GB ipad2 out for $350 should get it sold quickly; competition gets posted at $400-410 and sits. Even if CL put $20 less in my pocket than ebay, that'd be worth it to have the transaction 100% closed and no chance of a dispute or chargeback.

But like I said, we're in the area of opinion and it's fine if you feel differently. :)

A guy just offered me $500 cash for my ipad 2 64gb 3g on CL. I told him no way. Should I have taken that?

I recommend you do your own research to figure out what your comfort level is.

Look at recent sales on ebay for used ipad2's of the same model. Careful of the outliers that are sold for too high or too little (is buyer new with zero history, does description show a beat up unit, seller with no history, etc?) Don't forget ebay fees; if you sell for $600 you get less than $530 in your pocket, not counting any shipping costs difference between what you charge and spend.

Similarly look at what asking prices are for used ones on Amazon, remembering that just like Craigslist every one you see listed is one that *hasn't* sold.

$500 is low though, but see what he'll go up to. Most people on CL seem to expect to haggle a little.

Well they are all selling for lower than $600 on ebay in mint condition now. I have been monitoring it with mine on there. Ebay Fee's and Paypal fee's, it would be near $530 or so left in my pocket. vs $500 cash now. I might tell the guy $550 and it's a deal.

Well then I guess he should just leave it on CL where he is getting NO offers. That will show him!:p

I have over 600 sales and purchases and never had a problem. Most problems on eBay is due to being stupid. If you follow all the rules, you will be fine. Sounds like YOU did not!

Wonderful, you live in New York, this guy does not. CL performance is highly dependent on where you live.

Touche.

OP I think you have to take what you can get. Maybe lower it a few bucks and see if someone will snag. You have the iPad that is lowest in storage and the most produced; you can't be too picky. :(

How much did you list it for?

I've had my iPad 2 16gb wifi on Craigslist for days and haven't gotten any bites, there is only me and another guy that have iPads listed. I have researched the prices on eBay, amazon etc.

Mine has no scratches on back and has had a screen protector on front since day 1. So the glass is perfect. I also bundled these with it.

1 new clear screen protector.
Orange smart cover
Speck Candyshell Wrap
Casecrown Omni

What do you think the price point should be at?
Prices are falling every single day based on the rapidly approaching iPad 3. The only person that knows what yours is worth are the potential buyers.

Since I keep all my Apple gear pristine, it's worth more to me to keep as a spare when I upgrade, instead of selling it.

I sold my great condition 16GB iPad 2 Wi-Fi for $386.50, without hassle (eBay, meeting, etc) or any fees on NextWorth. Those damn ******** sent me an email saying it was approved for the "full value of the original quoted price," but changed the price to $270!! I called them and was on the phone for literally less than 30 seconds, and they changed it. Overall, I'm not happy that they tried to rip me off, but I'm glad that I didn't have to worry about shipping it to someone from eBay, or meeting someone, etc.

Glad you got your price with minimal hassle. Looks like they're offering $286.49 best case now. That's good to know as a "floor" price below which you'd just sell to them.

then the day ipad 3 comes out you'll be holding a beer mat.

In London the iPad 2 has already reached the status of junk. Two days ago I parted with my 16GB WiFi iPad 2 with a smart cover and not a single scratch or mark for just £250. It was the quickest way of getting it out of my hands.

Even the buyer told me that the iPad 3 will be coming out next week and that the prices will tank. Today, one can't sell any iPad 2 for more than £399 which is the retail price for a brand new 16GB WiFi model.

I put mine up for sale on the day of the announcement for £330 while others had theirs on sale for £350. Fast forward a few days and many people have started putting their 16GG models for around the £300 mark but yet that's not enough to get it shifted quickly. You guys in the US seem to get insane amount of coin for your iPad 2 models right now.

Here's a link to what the London market looks like.

I couldn't disagree more. Items for sale on eBay get much more exposure than most other sites. I find that I get more money for reselling Apple equipment on eBay, which more than makes up for the fees. Plus with PayPal there is minimal risk.

Well the official price for a brand new 16GB iPad 2 will drop to £299 in the UK pretty soon just as did the last one. You've had yours for probably a whole year and so its right that yours is worth a further £50 less than that price.

Apple deliberately target their existing users, drops the price of the last gen so it still competes equally priced android tablet and relies on existing sellers to sell their old devices for even less (~$300+) to compete with bottom of the range budget android tablets.

If getting a maximum resale price for your current iPad was always part of the plan, you shouldnt be trying to sell it days before the new version is launching. We all know the first thing Apple will do is drop the price of the old model. I sold my 64GB iPad2 for £50 less than the price I paid at launch, that's having used it for 9 whole months.

and in exchange, they get much more competition.

CL however is very location dependent and someone in a major metro area will have a different experience than someone in East Podunk, Middle of Nowhere. For the latter, CL is likely the better choice for anything easily shippable.

Net net net -- I don't think there's a universal answer one way or another.

16gb 3g AT&T ipad 2 + charger / cable & box; nothing else.

Sold on Craiglist in Seattle for $450 cash in < 8 hours after listing.

Sold my 16GB, WIFI, Black, iPad 2 for $425 a month ago with a cheap case.
I really, really, miss it. Can't wait for the 3!!
