I might as well add my theory to the mix

I’m guessing the .1 beta is just to show that the features that aren’t ready for the .0 release are still in development, so they don’t cop fallout like they did with airplay 2

I don't think there was actual "fallout" for AirPlay 2 beyond some pundits and forum people getting upset they weren't immediately getting their toy.

I do think Apple should better communicate (and perhaps be more honest internally as well) that not all features presented at WWDC will make it into the 0. Which isn't really a problem per se — continues improvements over the coming 12 months is a perfectly valid development model.

I’m glad you asked that! You set up the new iPhone as a new device (skipping all the signin prompts). Then you update to iOS 13.1. Then you Erase all Content and Settings in General > Reset and you’re ready to restore the new iPhone with your iOS 13.1 backup. Sorted! :apple::)

I don’t! Please elaborate.

“ I have it set to Auto and the improvement is night and day”

Besides Mail, iOS 13 has been fine for me since the beginning. I am not sure where some people are coming from. Either way, I won't complain about further development.

I think people here who are not having issues with the Mail app must not be using Exchange. I use both iCloud mail and Exchange mail. It's a disaster on my iPhone XS Max. I get a notification badge that there is a new mail and when I go into the app, it takes a few seconds or it takes me manually refreshing the app to actually see the new mai. Moreover, emails appear on the list completely out of order. I have consistently been reporting this to Apple for several betas and I know others have too. I am surprised Apple has not fixed this yet. My biggest pet peeve with iOS 13 is this...

For the beta users out there. How about the dark mode? Did you embrace it or it faded away after a short trial? I tried several times the dark mode in my Mac, but I can't get used to it. I find it harder on my eyes actually.

I've switched to dark mode on all my devices (iOS, macOS, tvOS) - love it.

Automation still can't control HomePods or AppleTV (even on latest beta). How am I meant to be greeted by my latest playlists when arriving home again?

HomePod needs to be updated and believe will you be able to have music play automatically when you get home.

As a developer, dark mode is a must. The only thing I don't like is Outlooks dark mode with the body of emails being black.

It’s a beta. If the final shipping version of iOS 13 has this issue then it’s a valid complaint. Just because you’ve reported a bug and it hasn’t been fixed yet doesn’t mean anything at this point.

Apple today released a surprise iOS 13.1 beta, which is unprecedented as the company has never before released a point update for an unreleased software update.

iOS 13.1 was not a mistake, though, and it appears to be an update that Apple will debut shortly after the release of iOS 13, necessitating developer testing now. iOS 13.1 includes new features and brings back some features that were removed from the iOS 13 update over the beta testing period.

- Shortcuts Automations - Automations, a Shortcuts feature removed in iOS 13, has returned in iOS 13.1. With Automations, you can create personal and home automations from the Shortcuts app to have certain actions performed when specific conditions occur.

- Share ETA - Share ETA has returned to the Maps app, allowing users to share their estimated time of arrival with a friend or family member once directions to a specific place have been entered.

- Dynamic Wallpapers - Apple has made some tweaks to the available dynamic wallpapers, shifting the overall look and color of some of them. The Dynamic wallpapers previously limited to the iPhone X and later are also now available on older devices.

- AirPods Volume Indicator - When adjusting the volume of your iPhone with AirPods connected, you'll see an AirPods icon on the volume bar. This also works for Powerbeats Pro, HomePod, and other Beats headphones.

- New HomeKit Icons - HomeKit devices in the Home app have updated, more detailed icons in iOS 13 beta 1. These same icons were added to the most recent macOS Catalina beta.

- Mouse Support Improvements - According to developer Steve Troughton-Smith, it's now possible to map the right click function of a mouse to the 3D Touch/long press action on an iOS device. Mouse support in iOS 13 and iPadOS is available as an accessibility option.

- TestFlight Indicator - Apps that you have installed via Apple's TestFlight app (aka apps in beta) are now denoted with a bright yellow dot next to them that's easier to see than before.

- HEVC Improvements - According to Jeremy Horwitz, iOS 13.1 adds HEVC video encoding with alpha channels for easier green screen-style compositing.

- Fonts - iOS 13 has a feature for downloading and installing fonts from the App Store. In iOS 13 beta 1, when opening up General > Fonts, there's new text that directs users to the App Store. There are no fonts apps yet, but presumably in the future this option will link to specific apps for fonts.

- Reading Goals - In the Settings app under Books, there's a new toggle to make the iOS 13 reading goals feature include time spent reading PDFs.

- Nike - In the Apple Watch app on the iPhone, Nike+ Run Club is now just "Nike Run Club," suggesting Nike and Apple are dropping the "+" branding.

Apple Watch App - In the Apple Watch app on iPhone, Display & Text Size has been renamed to Display & Brightness.

Apple Maps Collections - When deleting a collection from Apple Maps, Apple will now confirm that you want to delete it before removing it.

Is it likely then that 13 is at GM level and ready for release?

I am now on 13.1 OS and all seems to be working good expect iCloud backup. When I go to Back Up Now it never finishes. Sticks on updating Cloud. Anybody else have this problem. iCloud sever that busy?

Sure you can. 3D Touch, Trash

(OK, that's two steps. Are you suggesting the UI should be even more overloaded with widgets all over the place?)
Not at all, no widget, just a modern management of notifications, have you tried how Pie handles notifications? I'm not android fan boy but it's just plain honesty to admit that apple is lagging behind in certain aspects

I've got to ask, what in the world do "as a developer" and "dark mode" have to do with each other?

Haven’t had a chance.

I have no doubt Android does some things better than iOS. It’s good to have competition. I just found that particular example poor — triaging notifications seems to work fine.

Some developers like light-on-dark text editing.

I’m not exactly a fan. Dark Mode is kind of cool to look at but doesn’t strike me as very practical.

Any hope that there’ll be a Public Beta out today? :apple: o_O

This is the first developer beta, so it wouldn't be unusual for there to be no public beta at all (until the second or third developer beta).

(edit) aaaaand we have a public beta ;)

So should I convert over to public beta profile if I want to stay on 13.0?
Wondering what to do... maybe 13.1 is not a good thing right now, don't want to really be stuck on betas of 13.1 for months waiting for official 13.1 after the 13.0 GM is released.

If you DON"T want to update to IOS 13.1 Remove the Profile. Don't go over to the public beta. You will now be upgraded to IOS 13.1. Just done experiment enrolled main iPhone with Public Beta Profile restarted did Software update and it found IOS 13.1. removed profile before it updated.
