The old time picker was cool but not a natural interface to entering time on a touch screen, it's something people have gotten used to though. From an accessibility perspective it was also poor design.

Personally I found the old way to be horrible and hated using it, so welcome the new interface.

To me it's a logical change and an example of Apple starting to prioritise function over appearance.

What Apple needs to fix pretty much more than anything is the Reminders app sync fiasco, where if you amend a date or time on a Reminder on your Mac it throws the date and time out totally on your iPhone. But if you amend on your iPhone it syncs on your Mac. This has been going on since ios 13. That's almost 2 years!!!

iOS 13 isn’t even a year old.

The new way doesn’t “function” either.

Half the time I tap it the hours highlight first while the other half of the time it picks the minutes first.

Having to pay close attention and figure out whether I need to ‘type hour then type minutes’ or ‘type minutes then re-tap-hour then type-minutes’ is not a good experience.

I've always loved the scroll wheel. It's too tedious to type it in. I'm at least glad the wheel is kind of still there.

Oh gosh yes...... The calendar scroll wheel disappearing in previous beta was SUCH A PAIN IN THE BUTT.......

It got so bad that I literally switched to my Mac to enter new events........

And while we're at it: why the hell do we even need the calendar view when I specifically tapped on a date AND THEN the add button??? Aren't we supposed to know which date the event we would like to add is on already???

EXACTLY. The way you try to tap and edit minutes and the system tells you: NOPE.

Then you have to key in the entire time again.

Gosh that's painful to just think about it........🤦‍♂️

Exposure notification settings have also been tweaked, exposure checks moved provided key count under "New File” instead of all in one. The ability to export exposure checks has been removed in this beta as well.

Hey

You don’t need to tap the hour or minutes to begin changing them. As soon as you select the plus button to add a new alarm, or indeed select to edit one, you can just type the alarm time straight away. Pretty swift.

Did miss the old scroll wheel though so I’m glad they’ve brought it back in a slightly updated way. Love a bit of nostalgia. :)

I'm still missing the App search feature from PULL DOWN then type in the app name ... only Siri, websearch, news, etc. populating ... no Apps being listed to launch ...

the last print screen is the APP LIBRARY search (which works) ...
It's no longer toggled on by default. You have to go into the settings for each app > Siri & Search > toggle on "Show app in Search"...

On spatial audio...
Supported movies and tv shows

Wouldn’t be surprised if that meant iTunes and Apple TV+ only, no third party app support.

Huh? I don’t have that feeling. They said it will support 5.1 and Dolby Atmos. I read that as they will support *anything* in that category.

Any speculation on what was wrong with the old time picker UI and why they felt the need to change it?

The old one feels more intuitive and easier to use.

Have the opposite feeling. Yesterday I had to create a few events on calendar for next year and it’s far easier to use the new time picker. It’s just faster and simpler.

Spatial audio will be a major let down for me if it’s not available for movies on the ATV 4K. I don’t want to watch movies on my phone.

Also updated is the audio customization for iPods Pro (and maybe other headphones?) in Accessibility > Audio & Visual > Headphone Accommodations . Still no separate customization for L & R ear though to accommodate folks like me with asymmetric hearing loss :(.

You’ve seriously never had it do this to you?

No. I haven’t. Because as I said in my reply, I don’t touch the area where the numbers are. I just type the numbers in straight away. You don’t need to do anything else before typing in the alarm time you want.

You are correct and have saved my life, and Apple should REALLY disable the ability to touch it then, since all it seems to do is create headaches for people.

I’ve been annoyed with it for 3 weeks now without realizing there was any other way.

dropdown/combo box the weirdest ux in iOS

Combo box - PAGE -> CHOOSE -> GO BACK
Date - SCROLL (page overlay of by scrolling) .

What some bugs UX they repair..
1.not so small screen textbox

What still buggy.
1. textbox upon below does not focus upon touch
2. textbox don't have to see password.

** This is a developer preview and this is my developer perspective view. So don't hope I explain a lot.

Ha ha. I think we naturally tap the numbers as were used to scrolling and that’s what I did when they first changed it. Then quickly realised you can just type the time without touching the area.

Not sure they could disable it being selected as that may then remove the scrolling option they brought back in, again, and some people were not happy about that. Lol. But definitely need to get this bit of info out there to save some people from injuring their finger and/or phone. :)

able to enter is the best ux, but apple think user is dumb so to avoid user mistake fill in wrong information is better they do animation and scrolling in old time. I'm not sure the old version since i'm only just develop for iOS and before non iOS because of low margin/zero profit.

A nit pick here...do the calculator buttons seem to be slow and unresponsive to anybody else? I tend to type fast on the calculator, and frequently miss a number or the animation freezes on one last touched.

This seems to be something that started a couple years ago when Apple added the fading animation to the buttons. Can we please just go back to the buttons being on or off when tapped and released?

and yes I left feedback to Apple. Several times.

seem okay .. i use frequently.
** never use in apple watch.
** on ipad i have to install third party calc

I have a App Library bug where I can’t select apps directly but instead I have to hit the folder icon and then pick the app.

I’d also love 1x3 and 1x4 widgets.
