I have never been a fan of the "laptop" life, however in my 30s I'm starting to get the itch to travel around a bit.
For now I have the M1 Ultra at home, but I'd love to get an M2 Pro on the side for some light work in mobility.

:rolleyes: Thanks for the laugh! :D
Why though? It doesn’t say they have NO information. Again, this whole bandwagon of criticizing the rumor site like it’s pure guessing is so strange. Look at the domain name every now and again.

The real problem I have with this site is that it gives me FOMO. It feels like it’s never the right time to buy!

I would like:
  • M2 Pro 24GB and 48GB RAM, and M2 Max 96GB RAM
  • New Black finish (Graphite?) replaces Space Gray
  • Spec bumped to HDMI 2.1, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2
  • CFexpress replaces SD
  • Ultra Wideband
I would imagine most of this should happen in some way but the specifics will be vague. Ram will go up, new color will be released, better BT, WF, HDMI and probably SD card upgrade. Not sure about UWB though.
Along with this, I'd like to see better battery life on the Max, and Face ID as well as Touch ID. I don't think weight and size changes until there is a design change. I think the biggest selling point will be the M2 Pro/Max though.
If the M2 Pro’s will get the same price increase as the M2 Air’s they really have to come with a lot of added power and/or features as already mentioned. I have waited out the M1 series to avoid the seemingly non existing first generation problems, but perhaps I should jump in now….. The M1 still offers more ooomph than my current 2016 15” MBP.
Half of me says they may use the recent shortages and inflation as reasons for putting it up and not do much more than a spec bump along with the other stuff mentioned above. But the other half of me thinks they'll want to build on the tremendous success of the M1. M2 Air was a totally brand new computer whereas M2 Pro/Max won't be... mmm...

But personally, I'd wait. Even if it releases next year in May, I'd wait. Especially if those extra cores will be efficiency cores.

It's so long over due to give the PRO line up some different colour options than just Silver and Space Grey which in my opinion looks tired.
I keep hoping for me ultimate - Metallic Racing Green.

I found the wording, and how seriously some take the speculation, genuinely funny.

Also: FOMO is a legitimate factor in buyer's decisions.

💻 MacBook Pro 14” & 16” in midnight color would be very nice.

Also, since the notch is here to stay can we please get Face ID on a 💻.
this aint possible because (if you've ever taken apart an iphone and looked at the face id module) the face id modules are thiccc. They just simply won't fit in the casing of the super thing display of a Macbook. Thats also why macbooks have always had crap camera quality.

When the iPhone switches to the pill/punch hold, those 2021/2022 MacBook Pro's are gonna look dated. But you can bet your bottom dollar, the 2023 and 2024 models will have the updated look. I'm sticking with my trusty 2020 M1 MBP. Does all I need, but in the future, I definitely want to jump on larger 16 in MBP.

Yeah, it's a strange one. M2 has 8/16/24GB options, so does that mean:

M2 = 8/16/24
M2P = 16/32/48
M2M = 32/64/96

I'm surprised they gave M2 the 24GB option, as they love pushing people to more expensive purchases, but maybe it was to appease the TouchBar crowd who are still buying the 13" MBP but are complaining about lack of max ram.

So it won't necessarily follow that they will put more in the M1P and M1M, but maybe it will depend how many MBP users are complaining that 64GB isn't enough.

We do know the machines will get M2 Pro and M2 Max chips
we know that? did I miss the release from Apple? I think we assume ...
M2 is 5nm+, rumors said that 3nm is moving into volume production in Q3'22, rumor says only iPhone 14 Pro models will get A15 ... could it be that the next Pro/Max/Ultra M will be 3nm? would that make them M3?

Only Apple knows ... we here speculate, all of us ...
Just because M2 is 5nm, doesn't mean that M2P/M can't be 3nm. Seriously.

The next time I’ll upgrade will be for the OLED display, assuming it’s flicker-free. 2024-2025 is probably the right timeframe in retrospect.

I just truly hope whatever Apple does it won't make me regret picking up my M1pro 16 inch 3 weeks ago :/

I’d like to see either 32GB of RAM standard on the 16”, or for the upgrade price to be cut. $400 to go from 16 to 32 is absolutely nuts.

I’ll take 24GB standard as a compromise.
There's nothing wrong with 16GB as a starting point, but the prices, sheesh, that's just daylight robbery. We know it, they know it, and we all know there's nothing we can do about it, and they don't care, they're laughing all the way to that trillion dollar stock price. The only way it's changing is if a genuine Apple competitor came along with both the hardware, and the OS, to compete.

We all also know this it is exactly why they removed self-upgradeable RAM. I remember buying a brand new 2012 15" UniBody MBP (the last of the generation), and simply buying the base RAM (which was 4GB, with 8GB option), then driving straight to my local discount parts shop and buying 8GB of RAM (being half the price of Apple's upgrade price), plus I got to keep the 4GB that came out of it and put it into my mum's laptop.

Even though Apple didn't offer 16GB, and stated that the laptop didn't support it, the Intel chip actually did. Soon after a I got a contract doing some C# coding with SQL Server, so had to use VMWare. It crunched to a near halt with page faulting with only 8GB. Nowhere in Australia sold Apple compatible 16GB kits, so I had to get one sent over from OWC in the US. Luckily it actually worked, and I could do my work, phew!

I was at my mate's house one day, and used his laptop to google something and accidentally clicked the VMWare that he used for some of his geology work, and damn, it crawled to a near halt. So I turned up with the 8GB kit, and told him I had a present for him. He said it was the biggest efficiency gain in his life ha ha.

While it would be convenient TouchID is very nice and quick as it is :) also you can get bluetooth keyboards that have TouchID built-in too!
I had a M1 macboook air for a few weeks, while using iPad/iPhone regular with Face ID, and I gotta say that felt very outdated. Better than typing a password, but still not liking it.

Really, but connecting to my iPhone's hotspot on my 16" is as trivial as connecting to any wifi network? Does that not work in your country?
It does, but it’s not the same thing. Hotspot will drain the battery of both iPhone and Mac like crazy, everything become hot, and there are sometimes data cap for that use. It’s a decent workaround, but it’s far from perfect.

I used an iPad with my iPhone hotspot in thé past, and having a cellular iPad is just better in every way. But I know that it’s not for everyone and that iPhone hotspot is more than enough for most people

Apple introduced the ‌M1 Pro‌ and ‌M1 Max‌ 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models in October 2021, and while Macs sometimes get yearly refreshes, that's not expected to be the case this year. Gurman has indicated that Apple is not planning to refresh the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models until 2023, so we may not see new models this year.

Thought Gurman said the exact opposite in his newsletter, to expect MBP with M2 pro/max chips this fall.

I'm on a 2014 MBP - still using it for FCPx. AMAZING how long these things chug along. I'm waiting for the M2 at this point, but if I had an M1pro 16...I think I'd be thrilled - nobody *likes it* when the next machine comes out, but the M1 is such a massive leap forward...plus the redesign. Just no need to be envious. It won't be anything on the scale of Intel to M1!
As a matter of fact - don't read any more in this forum - go do something awesome with that powerhouse machine!

I'm still undecided about whether to get a laptop or stick with my iPad Pro and get a Magic Keyboard to go along with it. I mean, there are some things I won't be able to do on the iPad Pro that I could do on the laptop, but I'm short of money at the moment.
