I reckon he doesn't go through that many computers. Yes he probably has a Quad G5 right now but his last PowerMac could well have lasted quite a long time. I know its nice getting new computers and all but if you're the CEO of a company and can always get the latest and greatest first of all you know exactly what your next computer is going to be capable of and the one after that too so you wouldn't have as much of the excitement.
Besides which it'd be a bit of a hassle having to constantly migrate everything from one computer to another every few months. God knows I need to wipe and reinstall some of my computers but I can't face the hassel so I just leave them be.

That's why I say he has a PB for his travel and work use, and a 500gb FW800 drive with everything installed on that so he can just plug it into whatever new machine he has at home for testing and playing purposes and make it the boot disk.

There's no way Jobs has a tower. He helped invent the all-in-one computer and to this day he feels that it is the right design for 80% of home users.

He wants computers to work as easy as an appliance--like a toaster--zero config, zero hassle, turn in on and get creative.

There's no way he has a loud PowerMac and seperate display. This guy didn't have a sofa until he was like 40.

home: iMacs
office/travel: some type of powerbook

whomever said steve jobs is an old programmer is wrong

he never understood the programming code and what not..he still doesnt

id say maxed out pbook or MBP and 20in imac

minimalist, hates wires. etc

I reckon he's got a prototype MBA with 8GB RAM, 512 SSD, which has a FW800 Port and 3 USB slots :D

I bet he has a lot more than only 1 mac... probally has both a desktop and a laptop... I think he has an imac g5 and a powerbook 17"

I didn't look at the dates of these posts on the first page and was very confused as to why everyone thought he was using PPC systems :)

Judging from his past taste in interior decoration, I doubt he even has appliances in his house. You know its a Zen Buddhist thing.

I think it would be between these two options.

1. He has the fastest, most powerful next-generation Apple products, which he uses to provide usability information etc. to engineers, and also to see if he likes what the company he runs is building.

2. He still keeps his "old" computers because they do the job and there is no need to upgrade - he can go and use the new ones in the lab whenever he likes.

as he is the ceo of apple, i think he has every single machine at his finger tips so he probably uses a maxed out imac 27" has a 15/17" maxed out mbp and a maxed mba for travel :) All backed up on a prototype apple monster ssd which auto syncs with all his computers and backs them up.

also, an iphone 3gs :)

At home I imagine he is minimalist in the extreme. Simple, clean setup, something like MBP for personal machine, Air for the wife and iMacs for the kids, (no hiding in the bedroom thanks children!).

Knowing Apple's/Steve's penchant for secrecy and security I don't think he'd have prototype devices at home. Also, I imagine he does long hours at work and wouldn't want to continue to do so at home, he seems like that kinda guy.

I bet he has this ridiculous desk with the best that is available. Multiple displays all laid out. My guess would be that this setup is collecting dust while he sits on his couch or favorite chair typing at an older Macbook or Powerbook.

He has to have tons of prototypes sitting around of what became or would have become. I bet he has setup his whole family with Apple stuff. I know I would...

I read recently how Apple was the first to include a trackball in a portable computer and first to include a trackpad. All I have to say is where was I? I never heard about this stuff when it was happening. I wish I would have been able to convert earlier. July '09 is better late than never...

He's waiting for his i7 to be shipped just like the rest of us. Hitting refresh on his order status all the time.

lol.

If I was him I'd have a maxed out Mac Pro plugged into a 27" i7 and a 30" cinema display, i'd use the Mac Pro for games and video editing, otherwise i'd leave it off and use the iMac.
Plus I'd have an iPhone that could fit my 150GB of songs/movies on it.
Plus i'd have the entire iTunes store downloaded onto a fw800 drive.

cant think of anything else atm...

Like other CEOs of fortune 1000 companies, Steve Jobs' only interest is in seeing how successful he can make Apple by setting as many company and global world landmarks as possible to ensure his legacy in the corporate world. Individuals with a similar profile crave the kind of immortality that is seen from reading about famous figures in childrens' books.

With respect to what Apple products he has on his desk as home, I would imagine that he simply views technological gadgets for what they are; tools. He has far too much responsibility to indulge in gaming or video editing. Apple's products are designed to serve the consumer and professional creative, none of which is Steve Jobs.

Sure, he may have a few old keepsakes for sentimental value but any menial tasks involving scheduling, family budgeting and publishing notes are relegated to his personal assistants.

He only utilizes software such as iCal, Appleworks and whatever whizbang program of the month that can be found in the last iteration of OSX for PR and demonstration purposes only.

Establishing important contacts while maintaining current ones comprises Jobs' work with Apple. So does that mean he at least owns an iPhone? Probably not. Corporate VIPs would prefer not to rely on consumer telecom services if they can help it. He more than likely is a member of an upper tier of service employed by the elite where distance communication is concerned. Those may or may not require special devices to use.

My guess? When at home with his family, Steve Jobs wants as little to do with Apple as possible.
