I want a modern mail app. The latest update is terrible and made a bad product worse. Either evolve it or give up and let the other apps take over.
iPhoto should have a setting to only keep X number of days local and the rest in the cloud (IOS and MACOS). Why have a copy of a photo you haven't accessed in months or years on your device, leave me the thumbnail and delete the larger file locally.

How about something groundbreaking—album shuffle in Music app. Been waiting for this for how many years? And prob requires two lines of code omgwtffffff
I’m not sure what you’re referring to. There’s an album-level shuffle button, and an artist-level one too. Do you mean across artists? That looks like a bit more than one or two lines of code…🤔🤷‍♂️

Ahead of when new versions of iOS come out, MacRumors forum members and readers often create wishlists for features they're hoping to see, and this year is no exception. Over on our forums, there are a couple wishlists of features that users have been contributing to since last June.

What's Rumored for iOS 19

iOS 19 is rumored to be getting a major design update with visuals inspired by visionOS. It could have a floating, glossy look with a focus on transparency, along with simplified navigation and a reimagining of icons, buttons, and menu bars.

More Apple Intelligence features are in the works, including the updates to Siri that we were supposed to get in iOS 18. We have a list of all the iOS 19 rumors so far in our iOS 19 roundup.

I want iOS to be backwards compatible. I want to be able to revert back to older versions if I want to.

I also want at least seven years of guarantee that my operating system will not be slowed down intentionally.

Thank you very much.

Picture editing needs a clone tool.

A button in Control Centre to force the display to remain on.

The tool to copy an object in a picture (long-press-hold on a picture) could toggle between objects in a picture. Better at isolating elements in a picture. Inverse is also needed so I can choose the background if I want.

When I am using the Pencil on the IPad, touching the screen with my finger brings-up the full-size keyboard. This does happen but not always in every app. A toggle on the small keyboard to change it to full-size.

Find My app available in CarPlay. Numbers row on keyboard above letters. Better night mode for the camera. Improved call screening.

I like it when they redesign the UI of a built in app to make it fiddly and unintuitive and just generally worse in every way.

They’ve done Photos, maybe it’s Messages’ turn. I know: instead of having separate chats, differentiated by who’s in them, let’s put all your incoming messages in one view, like a social media feed!

I really hope I don’t live to see this joke become anything like reality…

I wrote this idea a while ago but thought it might fit here…

A crazy idea for Apple.

There're many comments, in various threads, where Apple fans wish Apple would slow down — or even stop — adding software features, and focus on tightening-up their software.

Many often cite Snow Leopard as being the heyday for Apple's "it just works" age, and I'm sure there's a similar reference for iOS. As Apple continues to strive to add more and more bells and whistles to their software, more and more bugs and inconsistencies are bound to come up.

As far as I know, this is somewhat inevitable with such a fast development cycle. I've heard people blame Apple's focus on pleasing shareholders first, and consumers second — drive more sales of the newest hardware models through software updates that require new purchases. I'm sure it's more complicated than that, but you're here for a crazy and fun idea, not my ignorant speculation...

The idea.

Apple announces, in typical cryptic fashion, that the Apple polishing cloths will no longer be available until further notice.

Later, when it comes time for WWCD of that year, the theme is some clever variation on 'the year of polish' or 'our lineup has never been shinier' or something actually good.

The point.

Apple announces that the polishing cloths were no longer available to the public, as they were needed internally. They needed them so they could spend a full year focused on 'polishing' their existing offerings (not literally, of course; I'm talking software).

They announce the name of the new update to macOS as [clever name], and a video plays with a reel like: (with accompanying iOS and iPadOS versions)
  • New features: none!
  • Added functionality: none!
  • Pretty novelties: none!
    ...
  • Bugs fixed: 23,434,543
  • Consistency improved: 3,567,343 instances
  • Energy efficiency: up 363%
  • Crash decrease: 476%
  • User satisfaction: +254%
  • etc... (any metrics which can actually measure these improvements)

The message.

They talk about taking everything they already have, but has objectively needed more time to polish and refine, and then re-offering it in an update which re-commits to the principles of quality over quantity, reliability, and "it just works".

They talk about longer lasting hardware (due to more efficient and optimized software), in order to help with e-waste.

They talk about staying true to the principles which made them the most valuable company in the world.

They talk about defining their software in the same way they have done with their hardware: polished and refined to a level unmatched in the industry.

Then, at the end, they show a room full of Apple employees polishing MacBooks, iPhones, watches, and iPads. All getting shinier and shinier...

"The polishing cloths will be available again on [DATE]." <– the release date for the 'new' OS.

Shareholder relations.

There would need to be a separate, specific, presentation directed at shareholders, so they don't think Apple has gotten lazy and will lose sales.

This would be a long-term gain to offset the downturn in hardware sales, and to get fans to fall in love with their products again. If they pulled this off, then it would, hopefully, pull more and more people into the Apple ecosystem due to it's ease of use, consistency, and reliability — all things which used to be associated with Apple far more frequently.

Not gonna happen.

I know. I just thought it would be fun to write out and discuss.
I believe the shareholder response would again mimic that of the polishing cloth: “wow, that was one expensive polishing cloth.”

Seriously though, does Apple actually need to halt features for a full release cycle in order to fix bugs?

iOS 19
  • Dynamic wallpapers like in Mac OS
  • Changes to the Stocks App. I would love for it to include new tabs that show global currencies, a currency convertor and a way to view my portfolio.
  • Allow old iPhone wallpapers to be downloaded like on the Mac. It would be even better if they were updated to be dynamic.
  • A more detailed transaction history in the Wallet App, similar to Apple Card.
  • Icon redesign for Maps, Contacts, Reminders, Stocks and Weather so that they blend better with the other Dark Mode icons. Also, the dark mode icon for the Weather App should be showing a moon, not a sun.
  • Better understanding of active subscriptions using Apple intelligence.
  • App Library overall or removal
  • Automated Memoji for contact images based on photos

CarPlay
  • Custom wallpaper
  • Dark mode icons
  • Less obtrusive call screen that takes away from maps
  • Widgets
  • Apple Maps favourites that we can manually input and quickly access (4-5 options)

Don’t give them any ideas! 😬😱

I just want Apple’s Mail program to have a true Snooze/Remind feature like almost every other email app’s implementation. But that seems too much to ask.

I want to be able to automatically update apps on a per-app basis, similar to how we can enable Face ID on a per-app basis.

I want my most used apps to auto update, everything else I want to do manually.

I mean there is so much they could do… but they just don’t. I don’t even bother wishing for things anymore because they don’t care what users actually want.

It took 18 years to be able to ‘freely’ move Home Screen icons around. But even then, they are still locked to a hardcoded grid.

Not shuffling tracks *within* an album, I mean shuffling entire albums. So Music app plays all the tracks from an album in order, then randomly picks another album, plays alll the tracks in order, rinse, repeat.

I think MP3 software ca. 1995 had this functionality.

A button in Control Centre to force the display to remain on.

Could be useful with an on/off button. Otherwise, this solution works too - a shortcut to Auto Lock in the Control Center.

Well, they just finally added crossfade, so, well, give it 20 years.

After reading this thread I would say the perfect phone and OS lies in this communities thoughts and ideas.

I'm a simple man with simple needs. Timer (under Clock), from the lock screen:
- If I Name a timer, please let it float to the top, every time!
- If I set a custom timer, and don't use it again for 5 days, just delete it!
- When a Timer goes off, give me the option to "Cancel", OR "Repeat"; some things need to be stirred every 15 or 20, or 45 minutes; that's just the way it is.

Despite my post above, the one thing I will mention is that I would like to see a complete CarPlay overhaul. Many many vehicles have much larger and higher resolution screens than the typical 7” 800x480px screens that existed when CarPlay was released, yet Apple has done almost nothing to improve the experience. For example, the split layout view, which came out in iOS 13, still offers no customization whatsoever. Their latest endeavour is changing the app grid icon back to what it was pre iOS 13… Even Android Auto offers a much better experience.

It seems like CarPlay 2.0 is basically a flop, as no one wants to implement it, so they might as well work on what people can actually make use of now.

I know it is for iOS - But please add Time Machine Backup to iCloud for macOS. I even would buy the 6TB or 12TB
