I am not referring to the artist, but to a particularly opaque post penned in this thread, which others have also already referred to.

However, I will add that - at a personal level - I do find self-indulgent (and deliberately obscure) stuff from artists increasingly tiresome. I have neither the time nor the interest to attempt to decipher this sort of gnomic stuff.
I agree fully, there is so much stuff I enjoy out there that is not self-indulgent.

Stripped of context, your post seemed to be designed to scramble the thread into a meaningless hash. Michael Jackson has been dead for years yet you ask what he's done now and then posted an image of an album released, what, 1982?, and then saying he looked good. (WTF) You serve this hash asking we the readers to make sense of it, and in fact other posters had no idea what the hell it was about. I offered a guess. You can resume your normal program in which you all seem to find comfort, I'll just sit here in this duck blind.

Yeah, sorry for the confusion! This old situation came back in my mind and just wanted to share it with you all, but I really forgot to mention the context. And we didn't make fun of Michael, but about those people who did report about him. We did and do dislike this.

@Scepticalscribe

Thanks a lot for your suggestion to watch series and films in their original language!

Now my memory did come back and I really liked to hear the original voices from the series "The Rookie". I wish I could shake hands with all of these actors. But when watching these, I need an English subtitle and my dictionary.

Thank a lot! Although I can't understand every sentence, I can guess the sense behind it.

Context is everything when making such a reference; otherwise, the post is utterly meaningless.

Sorry?

I have to say that I have no idea whatsoever what you mean by this.

We did and do dislike this.
Again; please explain.

I think instead of guessing what I mean why don't you ask a direct question? 🤔
Why not write posts that can be clearly understood by whoever reads them, instead?

Why should you wish to make people work to understand what you have written by demanding that they ask you a direct question instead making your meaning clear in the original, or initial, post?

Sorry?

Again; please explain.
Well. I was worried you might interpret my sentences as us making fun of Michael. We were actually mocking the journalists, because back then it wasn't proper reporting, it was practically stalking with crazy questions like "what did Michael have for breakfast, where is he going, what is he going to buy?" As big Michael Jackson fans, that kind of thing just annoys us.

Barometric pressure today is wreaking havoc on my spine, so I'm bound to get off my butt and get moving so I can keep it hydrated. Also going to buy a posture corrector from Amazon to see if that'll help me do my long walks again (I miss it). I have a good feeling about it so we'll see!

Is that one of those contraptions allowing you to pretend hanging out as a sort of Pteropodidae for awhile?

How does British English actually compare to American English? Is it like standard German or High German compared to Austrian German and or Swiss German?

If you are interested in going beyond sources such as Wikipedia and generative AI's, I highly recommend this book (perhaps available through amazon.de?):

You can also search this (MR Community Discussion) forum. There is a dedicated thread about the English language somewhere—it hasn't been active for awhile—as well as some discussions in the book thread.

And since you like watching YouTube, this is a series that was produced and broadcast by the public broadcaster in the US:

There actually are more than two varieties of English. In Canada English usually follows British spelling though the accent is taken for American abroad. To be more precise there are regional variations in accents, vocabulary and slang across all of North America not to mention the UK itself. Also note that Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India as well have their own variations.
