My dad died 21 years ago today; tonight, I shall raise a glass of good wine to his memory.

Still missed, always loved.
Had a good long chat with Decent Brother last night; we didn't just talk about our dad, and the date, - although we did chat about that at length - but also about the length of time that has passed since he died.

Somehow, it - that is, the length of time since he died - really hit us both yesterday, in a way it hasn't up to now, and certainly hadn't last year, which was the 20th anniversary of his death, and which we would have - or might have - expected to have resonated strongly.

As Decent Brother remarked, "it's weird to think that he has been dead for over a third of my life; there is so much he has missed and so much has happened since he went." And that is so true.

Never mind: Last night, I raised a glass (or three) of Pouilly-Fuissé - an excellent white wine from Burgundy - to him and his memory.

Good that you have your brother to talk to. I too sometimes struggle to come to terms that’s it’s been 10 years since we lost Miss AFB.

But just take this year. How are we in May already? Where does the time go?

Yes, it is.

His birthday is later this week, - he will be very busy in court, - and I shall send off his card tomorrow, as the post office is shut today.

Other Brother and I have also been exchanging very pleasant emails covering much the same material.

The very best of luck; that must be very painful for you.
But just take this year. How are we in May already? Where does the time go?
Indeed.

May the 4th be with you all!!
I’d like you to meet artist Brian Fritz, I commissioned him to paint me 3 Star Wars “fan art” panels, first one delivered today. It’s been a long collaboration with Brian on these, hi level discussions, FaceTime talks, sketches, etc.

Today I met a man from Scotland at the petrol station earlier. We spoke first in English and then in German. He needs German for his work. That was exciting!
By the way. I guess he was also excited like me because of his perhaps broken German he spoke. But his pronunciation and use of words was really very well and he said at the end of the conversation thank you and he hope he will met me again. Hope that's true and not a simple phrase.

If you're having problems with your files again, then I would suggest you have another nighttime shredding session!

Guess the movie!

🤣🤣🤣

It's a wonderful advice!

100%, I’m retired 1 year now and recognize my blessings, and truly love passionate artist pursuing their craft.

I commissioned local Detroit artist James Kaye to Aurora theme paint my Mtb bike, based on pictures I took in May & October 2024.
I challenged him to wrap the “above beauty” onto a bike frame, we collaborated 3 sketches to 1, then tweaked design.
End result - he nailed it!

Totally unrelated, but I just don’t get people who have like three different pieces of media they they’re simultaneously consuming. Just saw a guy who was playing a video game while also having a YouTube video pulled up on his phone, and at least another YouTube video on his computer, too. Do any of you guys do that? Maybe, with some heavy justification, you can convince me that consuming three things at once is good for you. I think it looks really unhealthy.

Hold on, I gotta get to a save point in my game and pause this movie before I answer your question...

Watching TV whilst browsing MR or playing solitaire on my phone sometimes yes.

Having a YT video on one of my 27” screens whilst doing something on the other 27” screen yes.

But not two things on the same phone.

I don't get it either. The most I do is music in the background while I browse the web. When I'm sick of that, I go to straight YouTube and watch that until that gets boring. I must be old-fashioned. 🤷‍♂️

It depends on the engagement level of the main activity, for my wife and son.
They double surf, if it’s “good” they’ll single item.

Me, I’m a 1 item focus guy, if it’s not worthy I’ll stop rather than zone out to crap.

Huh, talking to the multi-task king here. Actually joker that is insane to do that. I do have music on in. the background often when I work but only alone. In other news I can't say very much due to forum rules but this cancel culture stuff is getting out of hand even if I normally agree with the reasons to cancel people or things. Someone does something socially worthy then all of a sudden they do something else and oops!

Ranting into empty space I suppose.

When I was a little girl my father used to say that I had a "one-track mind." I guess he was right, as I tend to focus on one thing at a time, and multitasking just isn't in my repertoire. I've always wondered how people who multitask manage to achieve equally good results in both or all projects. My hunch is that they don't, that one or another of the projects or tasks is given shorter shrift than the other, with the outcome not as good.

That said, I do play music in my car while driving, but I don't consider that "multitasking" per se. At home I occasionally listen to music but usually not while I am doing something else. I tend to prefer to have "music evenings" at home where I'll just listen to the music and appreciate it rather than only using it as background to something else.

When I watch television, video or a movie I do not do anything else at the same time. I prefer to become immersed in the film or TV program. (Of course during the TV commercial breaks I use that time to take care of something else that can be done quickly.)

We're all different in the ways we approach life and tasks, aren't we?

Found out from a doctor that Diet Mtn Dew allegedly has chemicals in it that block weight loss receptors in the brain and other chemicals that make you crave it over other things. Not sure how true it is as nutritionists are a separate practice, but it scared me enough to want to stop.

The fact that you mention "Diet" in the name of the product means that yes, it has quite a few chemicals in it -- artificial sweeteners, for one thing. So, yes, you are right to avoid drinking it and should check the nutrition labels on other products which include artificial sweeteners. Health practitioners in the nutrition field, based on clinical research, have demonstrated that these are not good for us.

I always believed it was the "safer" choice because it didn't have all that sugar in it, but considering what I can't even pronounce is put in its place makes me wonder what I've been doing wrong my whole life. I guess now is the perfect time to quit since I'm on this weight loss journey!

Sugra is not good but it is less bad than the other choices. If that makes sense.

I watched the new Michael Jackson documentary on the ZDF media library today. Hmm. Well, I found parts of the documentary biased because it mixed statements by Michael Jackson with the news reports that were happening at the time. When were these recordings made, and what is their context? That wasn't clear, even though the English audio was broadcast with subtitles. I found the statement that the picnic between the boy and Michael Jackson was somehow disturbing particularly odd. What's disturbing about it? I don't understand. And then there's the statement by the prosecutor at the time that no one would let a boy stay overnight with an adult man. I mean, I think everyone has stayed overnight at a relative's house at some point. It all seems very strange to me.
