I had a feeling that you would appreciate it, if only vicariously.

This afternoon, I headed into town to collect a baguette that I had ordered in advance from a small (exceptional) local bakery; my various pestos and cheeses and olives and small, plum, (sweet and tasty) San Marzano tomatoes will all now be accompanied by fresh, French baguette.
Sounds like lunch is sorted. Enjoy.

I've always had pesto on pasta; I'm not much of a bread eater but I can see how it would be delicious on a fresh baguette, too! Enjoy your delicious treats! I love meals like that, wth an interesting variety of treats that don't require cooking, especially in warmer weather and summertime.

I bought fresh blueberries and raspberries yesterday and enjoyed them this morning for breakfast. Omelette with local eggs, mushrooms, one orange bell pepper and one chilli pepper, herbs de Provence and feta cheese.

Blueberries and raspberries are a lovely combination.

That sounds as though it was a delicious breakfast, although my preference would have been poached eggs, or scrambled eggs, rather an an omelette, with such a delicious spread.

I have been feasting on a bowl of strawberries, raspberries, apricots, and mangoes daily since my splurges at the week-end, in addition to various pestos on fresh French baguette, semi-sundried tomatoes and fresh mozzarella, and freshly squeezed orange and pink grapefruit juice.

Hahaha I actually had the fruit with oatmeal as I slept in yesterday and had a late breakfast but didn't feel like a brunch. I skipped lunch and had the omelette for an early dinner. Sorry for the "confusion" and I agree with @Scepticalscribe poached or scrambled eggs sound great with fresh berries. Next time. today alternating rain and sun and now it is pouring down.

Climbing Mount Everest is not on my bucket list, I have no desire, but I am fascinated by it. I usually follow the season, as people try to ascend to the top of the world.
Sadlym the death toll is climbing, I believe 5 people have perished during the current climbing season, 3 people these past three days. The support crews have yet to fasten the ropes and ladders between camp 4 and the summit, so the timeline is getting more and more compressed and people who spend over a 100,000 dollars get more anxious to take their selfies at the top of the world start making questionable decisions.

From what I've read, they may be looking (or have started) adding the ropes and ladders today, so it may literally be race to the top - especially since Napel has issued a record 492 permits for the climb, AFAIK, this doesn't include the support staff, so the numbers will be much higher

The passing of an old friend I learned of today is on my mind. She was 60 years old or so. Not sure what happened exactly. I’ve not seen her in 25 years but it still came as a shock.
Sorry to hear that.

It is always something of a shock when a friend - especially someone of your own age, and, worse still, someone whom you haven't seen in years - dies.
Wow sorry to hear that. 60 is not old by any means.
No, it is not.
Indeed. I’m getting to the point in my life when ever I hear about an old friend it’s always that they have passed away.
Two of my classmates from school have already died - one from cancer and the other in a tragic murder case - while a more than a few of my college classmates - some of whom were also friends - have died over the past decade and a half; sad and shocking.

This particular person had pancreatic cancer. Not a good way to go.

I don’t have contact with anyone I was at school with so wouldn’t know what happened to them.
But to be honest that was a lifetime ago now.
My oldest friend I met when I was 15 or 16 but after I left school. He was the one who shared the news yesterday. He’s also the one with many children!

No, not a good way to go, agreed.

With one exception, (the tragic murder), almost all of the deaths of people I knew from school or university were as a result of various forms of cancer.

I got a big surprise this morning; my Japanese girlfriend got married in secret on May 5th. Someone she met while still at university. No indication even when she was recently in Italy where she went alone.

This is a joke of course only @Clix Pix would get and I mean all my respect and congratulations to Kaori Sakamoto, the Olympic silver medalist in figure skating at Milan and World champion with gold in Prague. She was at a press conference in Japan when she let the news out right at the end. What struck me is that she met the fellow at university and he has nothing to do with figure skating and she kept her relationship quiet all this time. Good for them!! The people press in Japan can be as predatory as that in the US.

Met a former colleague (with whom I have served abroad, he is a retired Army officer), now friend, for a few coffees and a good, catch-up chat, this morning. Very pleasant.
Sounds better than my morning. A two and a half hour meeting best summed up in a picture.

Just learned that a former high school classmate of mine passed away. Shocking and heartbreaking. He was a very kind person and was involved in a lot of school activities. Unbelievable.
Very sorry to learn of this; it is always a shock when a classmate passes away.

Two evenings ago, while out at a tapas place/wine bar with an academic friend, - a most pleasant evening was had, the food and wine were both excellent - until the time came when we paid the bill. This is because, while paying the bill, we were offered some boiled sweets from a glass dish.

Unfortunately, (the wine bar was dim, I wear glasses, and I will concede that we had consumed a few glasses of very good Alberino, an excellent Spanish white wine), while reaching across and into the glass dish, I failed to notice that it was quite badly chipped on the rim. Instead, I felt a sharp pain, which came - I realised - from a nasty gash, as that chipped glass had abraded the skin of my small finger.

The wine bar staff muttered - with far less contrition than should have been the case in such circumstances - "oh, that happened last week-end". Yes, indeed, and they had clearly failed to remove and dispose of the defective glassware.

Yesterday, as it was still surprisingly sore - and prone to bleeding when washed - I paid a visit to my local pharmacy to hear what they had to say, obtain their counsel, and to apply a fresh dressing to replace the one I had applied the previous night. They did the needful, and advised that the dressing be changed daily for the next few days - several layers of skin were removed - and kept clean and dry.

Now, I always have a first aid kit when on my travels; however, I had never considered that I might need to equip myself with such a thing in my home city, especially for a nasty gash obtained in a fashionable - and - where food and wine are taken into consideration, a very good wine bar.
