I had an interesting first day as a fully embadged moderator. Here's a summary.

First, I read a post from name redacted that informed me of a confidential matter to resolve. It took me a while, but I finished that.

Next, there were a bunch of unnamed things to read through and decide on their disposition. That was at least an hour.

Mixed in with all this moderator stuff, I was also posting snarky responses on threads, and investigating secret stuff elided to use in some redacted actions I'd need to handle later.

Next I took some time away from the keyboard to make a batch of oatmeal cookie bars, with pecans and dried cranberries. They're still cooling off.

The final work activity was a couple of break-away republic actions that needed to be handled, because @NoBoMac was in a Skype conference with some people who may or may not be dictators. I ended the day by joining @Boyd01 in the woods where we drank some beer, maybe, and scared the wildlife.

Aha! I was right! Chown, I THOUGHT that “Moderator” and “Staff Member” label under your name was brand-new! Congratulations are in order, and have fun and try not to get too stressed-out with your new responsibilities! In the beginning it can all be rather daunting but you’ll settle in eventually, and it’s a fun and rewarding but also, yes, at times frustrating and challenging way to contribute to any forum (I have mod experience on another forum). You’ll do just fine! :).

We don't care. We knew from day one with a screen name like yours that things were gonna get different sometime down the road.

Your whole ship has sailed now, man. We can see that. We already can't read that new expression on your face and by tomorrow we probably won't even be able to figure out where you are. Waaaahhhhhh, and there was so much left for you to straighten out and hand off to us while we were still your friends!

... Jes' kiddin'. Congrats! :)

On my mind: for awhile I was able to get Twitter.com to present the legacy UI which I vastly preferred That switchback trick now seems broken. Ugh.

New UI for web use seems so claustrophobic to me. Old one wasn't broken.

( Yo Mr.Dorsey if I wanted an iOS experience I'd be in on an iPhone).

You might benefit from this user script. :) With it running, this is how Twitter currently looks for me:

My apologies if you were just venting your frustrations and already have a system in place that works for you; one of my pet peeves is people trying to solve your problems (usually by suggesting **** you've thought of and ruled out a while ago) when all you want is to complain a little.

Owls are truly beautiful and fascinating animals.

But rarely, if indeed ever, what they seem.

One of the neighbors stopped by a half hour ago, a dude about my age who I'd never met before. We are having renovations done to the balconies in this part of the house and he had some questions about that. Now, Tool having released their catalogue on streaming platforms today (or yesterday?) I was listening to 10.000 Days on Apple Music when he came over, and he asked me what the band was. I told him, and he said they sound great. So I gave him the CDs I have to familiarize himself with.

This just might be the start of a beautiful friendship. Or not, but at least there's good music going around, and that's always a beautiful thing.

Probably a friendship. Mind you, we must find someone out there who enjoys David's Dill Pickle flavored sunflower seeds as much as @AngerDanger does. No one likes dill pickle anything but dill pickles.

Congrats on the promotion. I hope this isn’t going to lesson the time you have to bunk off work and post here!

Talking of which I should get back to work myself. Just not feeling it today. Two house viewings later and one in the morning, so really hoping for an offer.

Congrats on your elevation to the ranks of the mods.

There are sections of that post that I think might go down well in the "Site & Forum Feedback" section of the forum, as many recent threads seem to wonder about what mods actually do, and who gets to oversee and adjudicate on what they do.

Amen to that and agree completely; not a fan of the new UI at all; the old one was clear and easy to read and navigate.

Thanks... have seen that one (well, equivalent) but was waiting to see if it still worked after Twitter somehow killed the one I was using which accessed "Home" via settings and then 'about Twitter', then Directory, Home tab. They seem determined to make the new UI the only one, one kill at a time... I'll try that user script tonight...

Probably a friendship.

Looks that way, we just passed each other in the yard and nodded. For a couple of Finns this is some serious escalation.

I have no idea what any of these words in this order mean but I'm in.

Owls are majestic creatures. I'd prefer hearing them early morning rather than morning doves.

For some reason, and I really don’t know why, I have never liked owls. I’m fascinated by and like most birds, so it is rather odd, but I just don’t find them appealing. I’m not frightened by them, it’s not that, and I don’t think I ever experienced any sort of trauma involving an owl.... ?? Whatever.....

When you say you don't like them, do you mean you hate them or are indifferent?

Hm......somewhere in between, I guess. I don’t HATE owls, nor am I indifferent to them because I definitely have a distinct “dislike” kind of reaction to them, either live or in photographs.
Ever choke on a Tootsie Pop?
