I like owls too.

Preparing my 2017 MBA for mind wipe and sale, my eyes said “Nnnnnnooooooo!” to the display today and I have to listen to that. Plus, Safari was just being argh!

Otherwise, a wonderful laptop.

I’ve now fully accepted it’s time for me to leave Apple behind. Struggled with this since late 2016.

Lots more going on, but I’ll leave my thoughts here on the superficial stuff.

@ThisBougieLife Happy Belated Birthday.

@Apple fanboy Beautiful pictures of those owls.
Thank you.

First day back at work tomorrow. It's been a month, and honestly there have been times I've been bored out of my mind, and right now I can't wait to get back to work. Sure it's fun laying on the couch and watching films, but too much of a good thing etc. etc.

The downside is, it seems that from tomorrow on out the next time I have a whole day free is sometime in September, but the saying about idle hands being the devil's playthings does have some merit to it.

You'll have to give us (or ask her to pass along) an evaluation after some use. :)

Absolutely!
So far the first impression is quite positive. Setup was easy, the device seems as responsive as I expected. I like the idea of having a full OS on a tablet-like device that also shares the same functionalities of my iPP (disclaimer: I am using iPad OS 13 beta on my iPP. It's an improvement but still far from being a complete OS). Office was setup easily, and all the software she needs for work was setup easily. I like the idea of running Access should it be needed. She's a special-ed teacher so most of her work on the computer will be of the administrative type, take notes, plus study plan preparation, plus handout preparation etc. Her requirements were portability and flexibility for her type of work.
I might get one of my own instead of an iPP…….. time will tell.

My birthday is fast approaching, geez I am turning 26 on the 15th and yes I haven't filed a vacation leave.

Finances both what my program teaches and personal.

Why are there still restrictions on Youtube, Apple Music and the iTunes store etc. whereby a certain album or soundtrack is available in some countries but not others??? Example: been wanting to purchase the soundtrack for the 1982 film Heavy Metal available on the US iTunes but not here. CDs rare as hen's teeth.

Spoilers. :mad::mad::mad:

I feel your pain; one of the (many) reasons I have yet to be won over to downloading music - rather than buying CDs (which I still do), is the fact that some of the sort of obscure music I have a liking for is very hard to obtain online sometimes as it does not reflect popular taste.

In my experience, you will usually find the soundtrack or album in CD format (eventually), but sometimes at an outrageous price.

Actually, I had spent years hunting for the soundtrack to Sabata starring Lee van Cleef (composed by Marcello Giombini). Eventually, I was able to lay hands on the CD of the soundtrack, - purchased and only available abroad, needless to say - and cheerfully paid the asking price (of close to €50, or £50) as I had wanted this piece of music for ages.

Channeling the Brit in me. Received a Notebook and two coffee mugs.

The two mugs here:

Yes, the benches in (and writing on headed notepaper of) the House of Commons are green; for those whose taste run to such things, the equivalent in the House of Lords is red.

Enjoy your mug. And note-book.

What is the quality of the paper or stationary in that note-book like?

Surprisingly good. It's pretty thin. Lines on the pages are green as the notebook's cover, and each page has a green porticullis logo at its bottom. Definitely worth the money if you're into this stuff. I guess I am ready for tomorrow's PMQ!

Ok first update. We might have to return it. It shuts down randomly. Some googling revealed that it's not an uncommon issue. Tonight I will try a couple of things, and if it doesn't work, it goes back to the shop and we'll opt for an Apple product.

Thanks.

Yes, the headed note-paper from the Commons comes with that green portcullis (I should have been more precise) while the portcullis that appears on the Lords' headed note-paper is in a fetching shade of red.

In general, I am into such things, but, in recent years, - as I write with a fountain pen - I have really come to deplore the poor quality of paper available in many commercial note-books, and treasure good quality (not thin but thick) paper.

Ah, fountain pen's ink might spill over to the following page. I think it's of pretty decent quality, certainly better than most commercial notebooks. Once I begin writing on it I'll let you know about it. I love the leather cover. If the paper holds, I might order A4 and A6 formats too next time.

On the back cover a nice "Made in the United Kingdom Exclusively for the House of Commons" makes things more official :) which is gov't nerd heaven.

Nerd heaven, agreed.

It is just that the thin paper would be a bit of a turn off for me as I love rich, creamy, thick pages, an have learned to my cost that I dislike thin paper.

Now, if the paper matched the quality of Leuchtturm1917, I would leap at the idea of purchasing such a note book.

Nevertheless, do enjoy it, and let me know how you find it to write on.

Ah if this is your standard (a good one indeed), I think it does.

Yes, that is my standard and these are the notebooks I usually write on/with these days. I love the size, (A5, perfect for taking notes on a knee if necessary, whereas A4 is too large for anything other than a table, or desk) and the quality of the paper/stationary.

They are excellent.

Actually, I used to use Moleskine, but found that the quality of the stationary they used had disimproved - or deteriorated - horribly over the past decade or so.

Rhodia are also pretty good, but not, to my mind, as good as Leuchtturm1917.

Elsewhere, the US company of Colonel Littleton also produce excellent quality stationary and refills to go with their (wide range of) note-books.

On my mind: a few electricity-related chores while there seems once again to be the power to do them...

Earlier today I was suddenly offered anew the wisdom of that old adage that "one should never paint the devil on the wall." Yesterday a bro and I were remarking that we haven't had that many power outages this summer, for a change, despite several stretches where it was one thunderstorm after another. Of course we were chatting on a perfectly splendid summer day.

Right, so lo and behold I woke up this morning to a fresh weather forecast of five straight days of "scattered thunderstorms". And, as if by command on high from some halfway-to-hell angel, we promptly lost power in my township for a few hours after a storm went through north of here without even darkening the sky. All we got was a stiff breeze for about ten minutes, one roll of thunder and then a two-hour power outage.

Off to make some extra coffee and ice it up while there's still what to do that with!

There we go, angry mood earlier with a titan avatar, now going back to the 70s with the longest running and possibly most popular Doctor (Tom Baker) chibi style. Just got bored with the rebel seagull.
