I know, it irrationally makes me want to buy their, uhhh.. schiit. :p

Actually, it should come as no surprise if I said to you that I have been waiting for such a pun for the past few posts.....

But, I understand the irrational desire.

Perusing one of those "top five radios" articles in one of the quality papers, or websites, over the past fortnight, I came across Ruark radios and..........salivated.

These are gorgeously designed, beautifully made from high quality materials (yes, walnut featured) and offer stunning auto quality.

For me, the icing on this proverbial cake lay in the fact that one blundering review (obviously written by a young man) suggested - twice - that this would be "great for your technophobe parents or for technophobes in general". I won't deny that I was instantly smitten.

Love me some pistachios.

I love pistachios, too; getting rid of their shells (cue, occasionally, broken or chipped finger nails - and I wear mine very closely clipped...) is another matter entirely, but the thought of the rewards for perseverance are usually sufficient to prompt me to persist or persevere with my shelling.

Use a half shell to open a narrow shell! Learned that from a random Albanian once.

Ah, now, that is an interesting idea - and one that uses what is to hand, as well.

I felt like the proverbial "feeble female" - when bleating that my nail was broken (and snorting with laughter when I actually said that at how ridiculous this sounded - the military guys I was eating pistachios with - while also sipping some seriously good Barolo - roared with laughter and were suitably sympathetic).

Nowadays, I simply use the small blade on my Swiss Army knife, (when I remember to bring it), but your suggestion is an excellent one for the evenings when you don't have a Swiss Army knife to hand (such as when savouring the atmosphere in a pub in western, or eastern, Europe).

Likewise, while caveman eating a bowl of steamed clams use another clam to pinch and pull the meat out of the uneaten ones. Thog can dispense with pounds of Little Necks and liters of beer in just minutes.

Hmmmmm....sounds like the menu for a mid afternoon Game Day menu has been solved.

Ah, yes.

Our wonderful Filipina carer - when she was still with us caring for my mother with boundless affection, kindness, much laughter, and utter dedication and devotion - taught me that particular trick; she used to prepare the most amazing clam broths (chilli, ginger, sliced French onions, shredded white cabbage, - or shredded spinach or chard, sliced cherry tomato, carrot chopped into sticks, and stock; she sometimes used to prepare a similar dish with mussels).
