Absolutely, and I'm assuming the people "smoking pot" on a train weren't do so legally (or just smelled from previously smoking), and it would've been just as illegal to smoke cigarettes. I mean, there's very limited public areas in the US where you can smoke.

I'd say I'd agree, but as an interesting anecdote my close circle of friends, were, and have continued to be, very controlled, occasional consumers of weed (not including myself, of course ...), and are all highly positive contributors, educated, productive, healthy, have families, businesses, they're doctors, authors, great thinkers, and incredibly respectful of people and the law.

Go figure :)

Dude, these:

The Wonderful nuts were BOGOF, did a salted and the chili, next time I'll do 2X chili :D

(Side note: love the new scaling feature of image uploads)

ive not even heard of chili flavored. I’ll give them a try sometime.

Fried okra.

Spent a few hours Friday biking from place to place to see if any sold fresh okra, settled for getting frozen, and got back home so late I nearly fell asleep while making it. By the time it was done, I ate it almost begrudgingly.

But I'll be damned if I don't want more today.

People smoke pot on the train?
When's the last time you were in Great Yarmouth? It's been over a decade for me, but it reeked of pot the last time I was there for a few days. Apparently it's a big hit in sleepy old Brighton, too, one of the many smoked and smoked things, apparently.

I've tried these, the original and black pepper ones from Costco. They tasted stale compared to pistachios I could buy by the pound. They used to be fresher back in the day.

Must have been easier for Stewart to hop along by your bicycle on three legs compared to galloping on four!

Fried okra.
Welp, I broke down and gave it another shot using a couple different recipes and some improvisation.

OKRAHAHAHAHAHA.jpg

To my surprise, it came out really really good—evenly breaded, tasty, but still distinctly okra-flavored. :)

Try breading it in cornstarch. The Koreans bread their fried chicken in the stuff for a super crunchy, crispy crust that doesn't get soggy fast like flour based breading. Also, your breading seasoning is what will enhance or mask the flavor of the okra.

It's alright. I dislike the taste of the stuff, too. I eat it mainly because it's supposed to be healthy and the fiber in it is good for you once you're past a certain age.

Great Yarmouth? Probably 25 years or more. My Mum has recently moved near there though.

On my mind is how is it only Wednesday? Feels like it should be at the least a Thursday.

How long should I take for lunch. 10 minutes or 15!
Wow, so uncivilised. ;)

We routinely take at least an hour on the continent. Well not me always, I usually takeout a sandwich or salad from the supermarket. I have to be here during the class period of the semester usually at lunch as we have students come in to eat lunch and study. I have to answer queries about the schedule, exams, permission to travel, and one fellow came in looking rather worn down with a head-cold asking if he could go home-which of course I did, told him to go rest up etc.

Haha, thanks for the tip, but my post was about how good it tasted; it was tasty but not at the expense of the okra flavor. I find that certain foods, especially fried, mask the taste of their major ingredients, but in this case it enhanced it. :)

Wow, looks awesome, that's ol' school cornmeal isn't it?
Yep, I was going with a batter recipe, but I decided to treat that as the egg soak. So it was okra in flour, milk, an egg, and spices then dredged in plain cornmeal.

I was talking with a friend about food and asked if they'd ever had fried okra. They're from Texas and said, "that's like asking if I've ever had cornbread."

I'm about as far north in the US as you can get before crossing into Canada, so I had no clue; I had it for the first time a year or so ago in my college's cafeteria.

Agreed.

Gobbling down, or gulping, or devouring a snatched meal is not civilised.

Personally, I'd rather forego lunch entirely than engage in such a thing.

I get an hour officially. But I had too much work to do. I always bring my lunch in from home.

Well, if I am actually eating lunch, I'll take the hour.

If I need to do extra, I'll work either earlier (starting earlier), or later; however, I am damned if I will ever rush a meal, if I have any say in the matter.
Never takes me an hour to eat what I have. I start early and finish late quite a bit. Plus do late nights and weekends at home.

You know, sometimes I get cranky over having to deal with clients directly, things coming out of left field, the concern over running our own business ...

... then we decide to take a 2 hour lunch, have a couple of beers, say, "To hell with work", and shutdown for the day, and it everything is right in the world :)

Sounds like how my G'ma used to make it :D Fresh picked from their garden, so the okra itself was insanely good. Same frying style for the catfish caught fresh :)

Yeah, it's funny as you head north, there used to be a pretty definitive "grit line", but they got popular all over (this brunch place we went to semi-recently in DC had a grit casserole)

Work. How much I enjoy doing what I do, and how I can't really see myself doing anything else at this point in time. At the same time it's frustrating how much it prevents me from doing other things I'd maybe like to do. The relationships it sometimes hinders, but on the other hand the relationships and satisfaction that it brings. The unstable lifestyle, the hours being all over the place, that always lingering tiny bit of uncertainty on whether or not I'm able / there's enough to do to make ends meet at some later date, all that jazz.

I shouldn't drink wine while mulling over my life (decisions). This all sounds a bit more dramatic than than it really is, but what the hell, it's the internet and I'm allowed to exaggerate, even if it's just a little bit. Plus, it seems that writing this stuff down is already helping in structuring my thoughts on some of these things. So yay.

The seasonal cinnamon broom showed up! The house (er, at least the downstairs kitchen/office/family room) smells amazing!
I hate those things. I can hardly walk into their stores this time of year without facing a wall of cinnamon stench.

When I'm in a hurry and don't really have time to eat a proper meal, I'm perfectly happy to guzzle down some sort of protein drink and that takes care of things! No fuss, no muss, and I am able to quickly move on to whatever is more important to me.

Coffee, water, and some sort of natural fruit drink - yes, agreed, that can be consumed rapidly, or guzzled, or wolfed, or gulped, or swallowed at speed.

But, to me, food is something entirely different.
