I doubt I ever spend more than 10 minutes eating my lunch. It simply isn’t that much food. A pre prepared salad.

Glad it’s Thursday. Wish it was Saturday.
Have a very long Friday to get through before then.

Well, I would rather eat something I enjoyed - so, even a fleeting snack (such as a cheese and salami sandwich) will be tasty and enjoyable to eat.

The trick with such snacks, is to use good quality ingredients - thus, proper cheese, and serious bread from a good bakery. If I eat a salad, it is with greens, or ingredients bought in the farmers' market.

I very rarely eat food to enjoy. It’s just fuel.

However when you do eat something nice it makes a nice change.

I'm the exact opposite: I rarely eat food solely for fuel - I'd rather enjoy food and make some sort of occasion of the meal, especially if I am dining with others.

The old saying is that some people live to eat while others eat to live..... :D. I'm one who enjoys a nice meal with delicious and different foods, but am not that interested in preparing and cooking it! Left to my own devices at home I tend to think about dinner two minutes after I've realized I'm getting hungry, so then the process is to see what's in the fridge, freezer and pantry that can be quickly pulled together and popped into the microwave..... Since I live alone, eating at home does not create any big occasion, it's whatever is expeditious and satisfies my hunger. Eating out, whether alone or with friends, though, yes, is a pleasant and fun sociable occasion accentuated by a wonderful meal.

Agree. I just don’t eat out very often. I much prefer eating to cooking.

I like both eating and cooking; and cooking in a relaxed setting is something I quite enjoy.

However, these days, as I am on my own, cooking each and every day is something that usually won't happen,as I am too tired, or distracted, or just not terribly interested.

Thus, most weeks, I will do a serious dish - i.e. serious cooking - twice a week (that will include seconds the following day), and will often rustle up a pasta or egg dish otherwise. Or, indeed, sometimes just cheeses and French bread will suffice.

And, I have been known to order in for myself.

Anyway, just back from a swift dash to the city; books, bread and yes, some cheese, comprised my shopping.

The French bakery will no longer bake my Apple tart, - apparently, demand wasn't sufficient (I thought it was brilliant and simply delicious), but will look into whether they can prepare one for me as a special order, something I would treat myself to, perhaps every fortnight.

Back in my working days I ate out much more often than I do now; it was convenient to stop by a favorite restaurant on the way home from work and have dinner there, especially if I were tired after a busy day. Now I'm home and not going out to work everyday, so eat in a lot of the time. When I go over to the mall, which is again less frequently than in my younger days, unless I am in a real hurry and just need to rush in-and-out, I like to take my time, browse in some shops other than just the one in which I'm shopping for something specific, and then stop and have a meal in one of the many nice restaurants available there.

Sometimes whether at home or already in a mall or out-and-about, I'll get a hankering for some specific food or type of food and will go to one of the restaurants that I've enjoyed before or will try a new one. Occasionally friends and I will get together for lunch or dinner and that's always a fun time, too, regardless of the restaurant or type of food we're enjoying.

Iberico ham is on my mind, as the cheesemonger's forgot to put the 12 thin slices into my bag before I left, an omission, or oversight I just noticed now, on my return, unpacking.

Anyway, I phoned them, and they apologised - in fact, they knew at once why I had phoned; they told me to collect the Iberico tomorrow, and that it will be "on the house".

I wondered what Iberico Ham is and why I'd never heard of it -- well, turns out that for the most part it is illegal in the US unless it is processed in the US under FDA standards, so it is only available in specialty shops around this country and probably in some fine restaurants as well. Interesting.....! I don't eat much ham, bacon or pork products anyway -- just don't care for them and they don't agree with me sometimes -- so it's a moot point, but the mention of it did arouse my curiosity.

To my palate, Iberico ham - Jamón Ibérico (made from a particular breed of pig - black Iberian pigs, pata negra - that have been allowed to forage for - and fed on - acorns) is even tastier than Parma ham, or Serrano ham, or Toscana ham.

There is a wonderful blend of sweet and salty, and these hams, (and their accompanying salamis) are the main reason why I would never become a vegetarian.

Very tasty is how I would describe it.

You've had it?

A serious favourite of mine; and well, when I collect it tomorrow, I have been assured that as the error was theirs, this will be 'on the house'.

On at least four times this evening, that stupid spell check switched "Jamón" back to Ramón which is what the computer had convinced itself I wished to write.

I am not a vegetarian per se -- that is, I don't flat-out refuse to eat various animal products and meat for political or ethical reasons or because they have eyes, whatever -- I just have always had the tendency towards liking more foods that aren't meat, although I do like and often eat chicken, seafood and fish..... When I was a child my parents thought it was hilarious that I really loved vegetables, even though they'd heard various tales of how kids often shun vegetables. LOL! Also, as far as I'm concerned a pot of chili wouldn't be the same without some sort of beef added to it along with the beans, too......
