Well had a better Xmas than I thought on my own. I went for a short hike (errr well walk really) near La Givrine, a station in the Jura mountains in Vaud Switzerland. It was cloudy at first and lightly snowing. Very few people on the hiking path (no cross-country skiers that I saw either). I forgot how quiet it is in snowy woods, I mean so quiet it's disconcerting. Actually took the same path I biked back in spring now covered in snow. Sun broke out when I was walking back to the train station and had a hot chocolate. sunset as the train went back, Mt. Blanc all white and the colours were astounding. No turkey but raclette and smoked salmon.

Nothing wrong with Raclette and smoked salmon; we treated ourselves to my monkfish and chorizo paella.

On my mind: gratitude for a mild stretch of weather around Christmas here this year.

Not least because upon my return home last evening (and talk about a lump of coal in a Christmas stocking) Santa had dished out something to my furnace that apparently caused a computer chip to decide that burning gas for ten seconds was long enough at each cycle... but to leave the blower motor on for the whole cycle just to make sure chilly air would sufficiently "refresh" the air in every corner of the rooms.

Ha ha. Not. What a sense of humor, eh? That tab for a Christmas Day's evening visit from the furnace tech will be amusing... by around next summer maybe. He'll still be on the cruise ship on which he can suddenly afford to book passage.

Ugh! Well at least I hadn't had to venture upstate this year or when I got back from the festivities I'd have had more than just a furnace tech to pay for repairs. "Mild" weather around here at Christmas still gets down in the teens over night so my water pipes would have disapproved of the furnace's antics.

So I'm counting my blessings today for sure.

Busy day. Stripped the wallpaper in the hall and bathroom. Just the dinning room and main bedroom left. Might take tomorrow off though as my neck is not my friend.
just made tea and took some painkillers.

Looks like unconditional napping to me. If one loves napping, then they're interchangeable.

Right... unconditional love that practically requires sharing a nap with a couple kitties is actually a modern convenience.

Some kin called me around 10:30 this morning to exchange tales of the week so far, and confessed to still lying around in bed at that hour because "we didn't want to disturb the kitties practically velcro'd to the quilt and right next to our legs."

I used to have to not look at the cat still curled up in blissful sleep when I was getting out of bed on autopilot after the damn clock radio launched my own weekday mornings. If I looked, it took a phenomenal amount of will power not to climb back into the sack.

Agreed.

But I love (some) classical music.

I have been home for two months, (having returned from a challenging and testing period abroad) but am still somewhat tired, more than a little run down, and would love another few months off.

But, I am also funding my mother's care, and need to think about bestirring myself and getting back to my work world.
Like both but not that oldies Country.

I hate my neighbors.
The elephants above us moved out a few weeks ago, and we celebrated :)

Happiness.

I found a place that sells vinyl records in the relative vicinity of my home today. After stopping off to have my tux fitted by the tailor, I made my way to this store in search of records to buy.

They buy, sell, trade all sorts of stuff and had a respectable selection of records to go through and the prices fair. I picked up several albums while I was there and will certainly return to this store again and again. I'll post my loot in the vinyl thread shortly.
