Happiness.

I found a place that sells vinyl records in the relative vicinity of my home today. After stopping off to have my tux fitted by the tailor, I made my way to this store in search of records to buy.

They buy, sell, trade all sorts of stuff and had a respectable selection of records to go through and the prices fair. I picked up several albums while I was there and will certainly return to this store again and again. I'll post my loot in the vinyl thread shortly.

It's exceedingly rare nowadays to stumble upon such gems, but I'm glad it's still possible and that you found one!

What's on my mind? The past year and how it's rapidly speeding towards it's end. It's been great at times, it's been the worst at others and at other times it's been everything in between those two. Wouldn't change a thing, though, and I find myself sort of wistful that it has to end. Then again, without this past year having been as it has, next year would most likely be vastly different so I'm glad with the way things are going.

Now excuse me, I have to go looking for my long johns and wool socks. Working outdoors gets cold with the wind here.

Indeed. There are several music shops around, but they're either quite a distance from me, or they're in high traffic, not easy to reach cities nearby. The one I found today, generally isn't too far, nor a difficult drive to reach.

Work on Monday is on my mind. Not looking forward to it.
Over two thirds of the company will be off, nearly all of my suppliers also.
Basically going to be a long Monday and Tuesday.
Then Wednesday off at least.
Then eventually (probably not until Monday) the world gets back to normal and this silly season is behind us.

Before that though another anniversary I’d rather not have to remember. 4 years without my daughter.

Condolences, commiserations, and the best of luck with it. Not an easy time of year.

For myself, I miss my mother, but I realise that I am comfortable with the manner of her departure; she was happy, and content, and comfortable, and surrounded by those whom she loved and who loved her in turn, her charity calendar firemen on the wall, and more firemen on the wardrobe door, candles lit - nice citrus and lavender ones - and ABBA playing - and that does make a difference in being able to deal with the aftermath of loss.

Listening to a favorite podcast, The Origins Podcast, where on an episode with planetary scientist Alan Stern who just blew my mind.

In talking about life on other worlds, he suggested it might be possible that life could exist on an interstellar planet, one that was ejected from a solar system. This planet could have oceans beneath its surface like many worlds do (Earth seems to be unique in having oceans on its surface) and still have a warm core that could support forms of life. This planet would be protected from stellar flares and would need no magnetosphere as the oceans would be protecting said life. Therefore this planet would need no star or be in the habitable (Goldilocks) zone either.

If there were life on such a planet, imagine if it were intelligent life and able to look out from beneath its oceans somehow and see the universe so clearly. No star blocking and overpowering visibility and no atmosphere to distort incoming celestial light.

Fascinating. Now I'm heading out to the gym where I'll ponder this thought further.

The elephants above us moved out a few weeks ago, and we celebrated

In the city for awhile my upstairs neighbor was apparently some sort of water creature... anyway he or she went out to return a step-ladder or something to a neighbor on the same floor, was promptly invited in for coffee and pastries, and accepted... forgetting that the reason for making the return was just to kill the couple minutes it was going to take to run a nice relaxing bath.... !?!?!

Yeah. So it was the day of the mini Niagara Falls. I and the neighbor downstairs from me both celebrated when we finally got the building super to make the required repairs to plaster, tile and walls in our places. I was out at work when it happened, and arrived home to discover a note from the downstairs neighbor pasted to outside of my apartment door, that started out "just a forewarning..."

Sub'ed! Always looking for another Podcast.

OMG THAT Brian May!!! Yes please!
"Dr. May, I have a question about the gravity in a bla ..."

"Just a moment."

*finishes guitar solo*

"OK, let's start with the event horizon ..."
Did I say Brian May? Well, yes and no.

The episode I referenced earlier was with planetary scientist Alan Stern. The Brian May, musician and planetary scientist is the guest on the next episode of the podcast. Ooops!

Noisy dog neighbors & their dogs and pot head in the basement all need to be consigned to oblivion.😡

At least there was a local blue jay hopping from branch to branch on our tree chatting away this morning.🙂

And mom's hip surgery went very well despite the complications. Her knee is almost straight now 🥳 (the right foot still turns in a little), so I will put up with the whining about almost everything else for this. 🙂

I hope everyone is okay considering.

And now, back to bed.

Delighted that your mother's hip surgery went well; that must be an enormous relief to both of you, and I know that you were both worried beforehand.

Hope she makes a full recovery, and that you are able to take some time for yourself and to be kind to yourself in the aftermath.

The importance of planning.
Despite being Christmas season, I was able to put away a few bucks (even after two emergency plumbing jobs and some work done on one of my cars), and I was able to maintain my body weight (I actually think I lost body fat).

I found it.

Yes. I even had to store some in the attic ...

I've considered a dedicated Podcast thread (heck, one may even have come-and-gone), but I don't think there would be enough traffic to justify it - the what-are-you-listening-to thread is probably a good place[?] Podcasts? Listening? What? ;)

I hope you are going to sketch that bluejay.

Glad your mother is on the mend. Hope you are taking some time for yourself as well as the no doubt extra fetching and carrying.

Sleep well.

I got Daughter a new iPhone 11 and her first phone number - I got Wife an iPhone 11 Pro, she was stoked to have a new model vs. a one year old hand-me-down (look forward to her being the point person for photos with the insanely good camera system)

Arrived today [for me]: a new case and screen protector :D Actually the screen protector was a Wife gift (3-pack), but I have an X, so same part, it's a 0.25mm glass protector with an alignment frame, works spectacularly well (Maxboost, highly recommended brand), and my touch responsiveness seems to have returned (it was a little janky, old tech armor I think was preventing proper detection), and the new Spigen (Ultra Hybrid, my "go to" for cases) with a clear back and matte black sides looks awesome on my silver/white/polished iPhone X (it's like a new phone ... snicker ...)

Just wondering why Tool hasn't updated their band website in like 45 years. Meanwhile, A Perfect Circle has a beautiful and well-done website. I think Maynard is drinking too much of his wine. ;)

Still no cold. :) I did do a nasal lavage because I was sanding some wood. Some Jackson Pollock like artwork splayed across the bathroom sink afterwards.

Cheaper to buy a new kit each year. Just $12-15 at my favorite store. You get 2 bottles, a travel kit, and 250 pre-mixed packets. 100 packets alone costs $14 at leading stores. Terrible deal at those places.

Not even a really spicy dish can clear your sinuses out as well. And trust me, I love really spicy tom yum soup when I do have a cold, but even several bowls of it with bird eye chilis added didn't help me as much as the lavage.

Edit: Damn it, it's nearly 3 AM and craving tom yum soup now.
