Not giving into mom's drama antics. She wants to come home but that is impossible* as the fracture sustained during the hip surgery has to heal for at least a month before mom can put weight on that leg & foot.

*No one can be here 24/7 and we agree with the surgeon, mom has to stay put and deal with the pain and drugs as the muscles, nerves, and bone heals.

I adore my mom, but she's a horrible patient and the psychological chaos she's bringing down on herself and all of us is just ridiculous. I am taking responsibility for myself and working to be more honest in my communication. Mom doesn't like this or how blunt I've become since last summer.

Anyway, I am grateful I see this now and am working to unlearn what I have learned.

On the most positive news,

On the Asian soup front, ate a ridiculous amount of my favorite pork wonton soup yesterday.

It's so nice to hear a local Blue Jay cawing away outside near our house.

Waiting on more traditional art supplies to slowly ease into this Nature Journaling class. So glad I was able to return the iPad Air 3 last week (Yes, touch disease yet again), a sign to jump into drawing traditionally, which I accept and look forward to.

@Apple fanboy as I progress in the Nature Journaling class I will learn how to sketch birds as they move about. I am looking forward to that. Hope fixing up the new homestead is going well.

So my resolutions are working to be the best me while still helping mom etc. This includes learning how to relax.

When my mother was well (mentally), she was a difficult enough patient, as she was used to being independent and was used to her autonomy, and found it hard to cope with being a patient and having to take instructions from others.

My father, on the other hand, was an excellent patient, understanding that if he obeyed orders and followed instructions, his recovery would be all the quicker; he even understood that if carers were not too stressed - and if he could make things easier for them, (and not wage psychological warfare or emotional blackmail) that this would be better for him in the long run, and would aid his recovery. He was able to compromise on the small things (something that eluded my mother, to a certain extent), if one or two of the big issues went his way.

Ironically, it took my mother's dementia to turn her into a good patient.

Commiserations and the best of luck with it.

Enjoy your art, and the Nature Journaling class; I adore pork wonton soup, so glad to hear that you enjoyed yourself tucking into vast quantities of this nectar.

Not doing to much this weekend. Did a lot last week so having a relaxing weekend before work tomorrow. I think Mrs AFB is enjoying a week off the contractors creating dust etc.
Enjoy the bird sketching. My Mac and camera gear are still packed up for now.

Given how much work you have already done over the course of this week, I think it an excellent idea to take things easy the week-end.

Enjoy chilling out.

Here it’s taken a temperature dip this evening. Wish we had heating working properly. Roll on January.

When will the heating issues be fully addressed and sorted out?

@Scepticalscribe thank you.

I wound up cleaning the kitchen and bathroom as both needed cleaning.

Now time to stretch, eat and enjoy my day.

Ah, you must be stressed if bathroom cleaning and kitchen cleaning are on the menu on a Sunday........

But, I can see how this would be a good way of getting tension out of one's system.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Ouch.

Okay, the very best of luck with it, and I am sure that you are both looking forward to having it completed and ticked off your "to do" list.
More than you know! Put the oil filled radiator on to supplement the other heating.
But with a hole in the ceiling and no doors in the lounge, it’s impossible to feel warm in here.

Yes, this is the time of year that - especially in your situation - you will need supplementary heating.

The very best of luck with it.

Still, I strongly suspect that you are far better off where you are (renovations to come, notwithstanding) than where you were, or used to be.

When you have finished with the renovations (and can start to work on the garden), then, I think, you will really enjoy the house and surroundings and woodland - not to mention the privacy that living in the country will afford you.

Agreed. Roll on summer!

A spring baby here, too -- March -- and yes, I love watching the grass turning green and growing again, the trees leafing-out, the wonderful blooming of the early flowers and especially the daffodils...... It's my favorite time for photography and being outdoors, except for the period when my allergies kick up full-on. This last year wasn't too bad, though, but some years it seems as though everything starts growing and pollinating at once and it all gets right into my system, causing sneezing, blowing, eyes watering and itching.....!

Never had those issues thankfully. But yes Spring is a great time for photography and getting out after winter.

Longer days, warmer days, brighter days, daffodils, tulips, and - oh, bliss, cherry blossoms, plus lovely leaves making an appearance on trees, grass growing......yes, I love spring.

April birthday here, but I have always liked April, and Easter.

Roll on spring.

Cherry Blossoms!!!! Oh, yes, those and the Tulip Magnolias are my favorite blossoming trees! Every year in the DC area locals and tourists flock to the Tidal Basin in Washington, not far from much of the activity on Capitol Hill, and admire the beautiful cherry blossoms that pop out on the many trees presented to the US years ago by the Japanese. The trees are wonderful to wander among, with that heavenly, delicate scent and the gorgeous pinks and whites of the blossoms. I haven't been down there in a few years now, but it used to be that we would get down there very early in the morning and park in a small parking area nearby before all the tourists arrived, and set up tripods and shoot the sun rising over the Jefferson Memorial. Photographers all lined up, being careful not to block another's view, were a sight in themselves! Then we'd start shooting the blossoms before too many other people got there and got in our way.....

Sounds lovely. You’ll need to dig out some of those pictures. Or go back in the spring!

Yes, I should dig out some of those photos.... Definitely would love to go back this spring, weather permitting! Rather than drive into town this time I would probably just take Metro in; easier that way since the parking situation has changed significantly down there and the traffic around the Tidal Basin is unbelievable as everyone tries to peek at the cherry blossoms while they're driving around that immediate area.

Some years the weather is not cooperative and some years it has been hard to predict just when peak will hit. People make travel arrangements months in advance and then sometimes while they are here the blossoms have either already peaked or won't be peaking until they've already left.... We locals have an advantage in that respect, anyway.

I have a folder on my desktop which I use to share photos with my iPhone, iPads and Apple Watch; some of the photos were in there so that made it fairly easy to pull out some of my favorites:
