Went to the store today. Before me in the line to the till there was an older man who bought some general items, among them two packs of toilet paper. While I'm paying for my stuff a woman comes to the till to ask if the store has any more toilet paper anywhere because the whole isle was empty at the time. The cashier says that nope, all bought out, but then the gentleman who bought two packs says that he can give her one of the two he just bought. When the woman said she didn't have any cash on her, he told her not to worry and just take it as a gift.

It not all crazies and hoarders for profit out there, and that's pretty cool. Also pretty cool is the fact that there are already 8 people that were infected here that have now been cured. Obviously in the grand scheme of things that means little, but still nice to read some positive news every once in a while.

Awesome.

Indeed it is. Hope the women needs it rather than just looking to stockpile.

Wow, C-19 isn't keeping the springbreak kids inside, biked over the to public beach access, all the spots are filled (normally 1/2 filled is a lot), all the grass in between spots packed in, and the entire service road bumper-to-bumper cars.

Daughter, "Why are so many people here?"

Me, "Oh, it's just a bunch of kids taking a break from doing nothing ..."

In that situation, statistically speaking, it's their elders back home will pay the price... and any vulnerable people they happen to bump into while in the convenience store or fast food joint.

... or any other sort of "bumping" that typically occurs (at least, that's how I remember it ...)

So true, that's why we bailed on our trips, it's a bit reckless, even if you're in a sort of non-crticial demographic, so potentially spread this around, and possibly to people who could have a lethal response to it.

I disagree.

I lived in NYC for 35 years and up here 35 years. The hedge fund managers I knew, you had to arm twist to get them to make company-matchable grants to libraries or PBS etc., or even donate a pint of blood at a company blood drive. The poor that we'd meet at mini-park cleanup days and like so would have us in for coffee later to reciprocate for stuff like a post-event evening of pasta and brews that some of us could afford to throw, and it was clear that it was coffee they'd be hard pressed to re-up on for themselves, even when it was on sale... nonetheless those invitations were always genuine and insisted upon.

It's just the way of the world. The haves fear losing what the have-nots never dreamed of and the have-nots know what it's like to have a wolf at the door and will share bread to lessen those nightmares.

Good luck with your new job.

Re your mother, is there anyone else from whom she might heed instructions as to her daily requirements re physio?

This will be a time of adjustment for both of you and she will have to accept that the level of care - and dancing attendance on her needs that she received while in care - she received may no longer be possible, and that you have your own needs (physical, professional, psychological) that you have every right to wish to fulfil and to insist on fulfilling.

In her case, I suspect that some sort of ferocious survival instinct may have kicked in, which means that - for now - all she will be focussed on is herself, her care, and her needs, and will be genuinely incredulous that you are unable (and unwilling) to sacrifice yourself to meeting her needs.

Don't feel guilty for setting (and policing) you own boundaries; this is the price (for your mother) of you being in a position to supply the level of care that she currently receives, and is probably the price of your sanity and ensuring that you don't - as a consequence - suffer from carer burnout (which is a very real thing).

Thank you.

She is already realizing it is difficult at home, but I hope she can get additional guidance on PT at some point. She had a great PT before but doesn't want him in the house with the amount of sick patients he sees.

I do not think I want her family friend who teaches children helping here either.

I will walk through the exercises with her.

Sis recommended Aleve which gave her some relief, so mom is sleeping now, I couldn't (Dog noise, just trying to let the neighbors be a holes during the day without saying something).

Mom and are realizing it will be different and tough here. We will see what happens.

Sent friend's band a little money for their bog roll fund. We've been friends for 30 years, so with their festival gigs being cancelled I wanted to help out.

@Mefisto that's lovely to hear (Sharing and healing).

I took a video of people fighting over toilet paper at our local grocery store.

Nice story...
Speaking of shopping my example is ridiculous, it’s not Armageddon yet, and all those perishables you horde, you have to eat them... 👀 Plus cereals, canned goods, and we already knew about cleaning supplies. The signs at the top of the refrigerator units say limit 2 per customer.

That's a wonderful thing to do. I also have a few friends in bands that had big tours coming up, or were on tours that are now cancelled after only a couple of gigs so I know they will appreciate the ever-loving heck out of it.

France is closing everything except food stores and pharmacies

France has bad numbers at the moment... double the new cases in 72 hours to 4500, w/ half the 300 most serious cases being people under 60 years of age. So it makes sense they will like to bear down on unnecessary exposures, they need to try to suppress expansion to keep their hospitals able to serve those gravely affected.

It's Pi Day, and Pie Day!

As promised, here's a picture of the chocolate pecan pie I made.

choc-pecan-pie.jpg

It hasn't cooled enough to sample yet. Besides, I'll probably hold off until Sunday evening, because a friend invited me for dinner, and I said, "I can bring dessert."

There's 1-1/2 cups of pecans in there, but they're all hiding at the bottom.

I'll post the recipe after the taste test tomorrow. I don't like to post untested algorithms recipes.

Positively mouthwatering.

On the subject of Pi, one of the unfortunate things to happen in recent years is that I seem to have misplaced my copy of the Darren Aronofsky film Pi, and I can't seem to find it anywhere. Need to start scouring the mighty internet for a copy, but I feel like I've done that before and it was pretty much a dead end. A tragedy if there ever was one, I tell you.

So I’m assuming it kind of a pudding texture or more like a cheesecake texture?

Upadate: I just noticed you called it chocolate pecan. I’m very picky about my pecan pies, unlikely to mix chocolate with the normal favorite pecan sugar bomb flavor. 😝 Too bad there’s not online tasting. ;)

Man I could not be trusted with something like that hanging around my kitchen, I'd have to hire a security guard for it until time to truck it over to my dinner host's house next day.
