That's a wonderful thing to do. I also have a few friends in bands that had big tours coming up, or were on tours that are now cancelled after only a couple of gigs so I know they will appreciate the ever-loving heck out of it.
He was very appreciative, and said something very sweet, but without both of his bands' music to guide me these past 31 years, I am not sure I'd be as okay as I am now. Not all heavy metal is bad, folks.

When the whole internet can be critical and rip creative people new ones, it is very important to me to tell some of these creative folks how much their output means to me.

My husband works two jobs. One as security at Wal-Mart as a contractor. His Law Enforcement job will stay but his contractor job might not. This might become difficult for us.

I'm trying not to worry, to be honest I'm not scared of getting sick. Being ill, miserable, that's not even bothersome for me to think about. Even dying doesn't scare me to this extent. Losing a roof over my head, food in my belly, my electricity, that is utterly terrifying to me.

I think there will be many who will suffer financially during this pandemic.
Especially those least able to cope. Minimum wage people on zero hour contracts.
The UK Government has said it will pay full SSP for those not able to work due to sickness. However I’m not sure what happens if the place where you work is closed due to it being a pub or restaurant etc. We’re not there yet, but it’s only a matter of time.
Worrying times.
Meanwhile my parents both in their 70’s are many hours away. My Mum has a lot of health issues. My Dad is pretty healthy (he only stopped work this last week).
They are very much on my mind. Especially as I’ve not seen them is a few years.

This morning, I headed in to the farmers' market, unusually early (by my normally tardy standards). Thus, I was there shortly after 10.00, mainly to replenish fruit, vegetables and organic, free range, eggs.

Standing at the organic meat stall/ethical, environmentally aware butcher's, I was stupefied by the order of a woman nearby, being served; firstly, she requested 5 kg of mince, (thereby, completely cleaning the stall out of mince - I had had it in mind to purchase one bag of around 500g of mince, to replace the one I have in the freezer which I intended, nay, still tend, to use in the next week or so), and asked that it be broken down into packs of sound 500g.

She then proceeded to order more than twenty chicken legs/thighs.....at which point, struggling with emotions torn between hilarity and horror, I switched off.
It seems as if we face a larger threat from human irrationality than the actual virus. :)
I suspect soon enough even these mega hoarders have to reach satiety… I hope!
Alas, I suspect much of the fresh food so stashed away will go to waste.

However, there are bright notes in all of this: My cheesemonger, who is a good friend, phoned me to check that I am okay, and offered to drop out some cheese and wine to me; an absolute gent; two of his staff are ill, and he is running around ensuring that their families have ample supplies of food and whatever other necessities are required
Good to hear there are some sane folk out there.

I hear you.
Hopefully all will be OK and some kind of normalcy will return.
Good luck!

It's fairly well documented that the poor are rather more likely to share what little they have.

The poor don't have that fear that "if you give them an inch, they take a mile".

Agreed.

On a number of occasions, over the past two decades, if I was home at the time, I have helped out with cancer or cardiac charities (stuff that my father had suffered from), or dementia charities (my mother) with their collections and other fund raising activities, and it was a real eye-opener.

I had not expected to see how social class was so starkly expressed.

The people who donated were almost invariably older, or poorer, most frequently women, or mothers with children, (lovely to see) - sometimes stressed mothers with children, who would give money to the children, yet still gently instruct their children to place the money in my collection tin, which the children proceeded to do, with a careful and solemn and touching pride - and very decent students, - as individuals, or in groups, or school kids, would often also donate.

Adult men rarely donated, and very well dressed (and confident, young) men never donated. Well dressed, confident older men sadly very rarely donated either.

Good to hear there are some sane folk out there.

Sane folk and decent folk; to my mind, kindness and empathy are two (often unsung) virtues that ought to be accorded greater recognition and respect in our public and private lives.

It seems as if we face a larger threat from human irrationality than the actual virus. :)

In the case of that particular woman, I suspect that her freezer is the detonation for much of what she purchased at the organic meat stall.

However, given that it was a filthy day, given that it was still quite early in the day, given that not many stalls had turned up, and given that there did not appear to be all that many people around, it was astonishing just how denuded of produce some of the stalls already were.

Serious quandary, I will go tomorrow to the office to get essential documents and finish some scanning of bills for accounting from February. We are well set up with OneDrive, WebEx and Moodle so we can sort of continue online. Worried about the future though as the fear this may cause will affect potential students interest in spending a semester abroad.

I also will quarantine myself from social media. The amount of disinformation and fearmongering is unbelievable.

In other news, I played a round of World of Tanks and got promptly blown up.

😂 That would be me at any sport or most video games (Except early '90s first person shooters...geez, what does that say about me?) 🤭

LOL sez you're like me. I'm good at Plants v Zombies but just the ones having advantage of daylight and the backyard swimming pool. Love those algae. I win almost every time.

What can I say, it's all I ever learned any expertise at, while on hold to cancel subscriptions or to ask the bank about why they didn't interrupt some transaction from Albania to Croatia about a pair of ski gloves I was supposedly having shipped to my country house.

I will buy people condoms if necessary.

The intro to the 1995 mini-series The Stand.

Today started off miserably. I went to bed early because I wasn't feeling good and was awoken half past midnight by my mom yelling. Turns out a pipe had burst and we had no water.

The ability to wash our hands seems sorta important given the global topic of conversation, so I called an emergency plumber who was able to talk me through getting the water to stop flooding under the house.

This morning, I woke up at seven to go for a short swim in the crawlspace. I needed to cut away as much of the godawful weatherization insulation from around the pipe as I could before the plumber got here.

It was unclear whether or not he'd be able to get everything working again, but he did and charged us a really decent price. Plus, I'm sure the fiberglass and mildew scrub will do wonders for my skin.

You would be good at most scenarios in Plants v Zombies then too, I should think. And could play for either side!

What an ugly way to start the day. Glad it worked out. My nightmare scenario is a pipe freeze and break right where it exits the cellar and crosses into the kitchen which is above a crawlspace... hot and cold water both run along the inside of the not particularly well insulated north wall of the kitchen. No shutoffs between the kitchen sink ones and the stop for the feed line from the main down in the cellar. That old shutoff down there wasn't holding very well, so I had them replace it with a newer stopcock in that line a little farther in, when a plumber was redoing the bath feeds one time. I don't need to go upstate for a weekend and come back to find a gigantic block of ice has blown out my foundation.

@AngerDanger glad you were able to get that pipe burst fixed.

Mom and I are alternating btw getting along and not.

Meanwhile, grocery shopping at all hours with potential delivery this morning, tomorrow afternoon (possibly cancelled as local supermarket halted delivery orders) and Wednesday a.m.

Somehow, beans, mandarin oranges and chocolate seems appropriate right now.

Winding down work at the company today, hoping someone can access my work PC before it is wiped to send the Los Angeles folks what they need from it. Embarrassing that my offer letter etc. is in the machine's recycle bin (that I cannot access), but it is what it is. Very weird to working remotely without the onsite computer, but I am super glad I did not bring it home.

I hope everyone here has what they need and are safe and well.

Likewise. When do you start the new job? I’m off this week trying to finish some rooms off. Painted half our bedroom this morning. But really not feeling very enthused.
Back to it.

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that while I am an introvert I am pretty bummed about the coming semi-lockdown. Getting my papers and a few scans for accounting to do in, picking up a colleague's laptop and a few other things. Geneva closing all non-essential services this evening from 6PM. The Swiss Federal government will likely follow.
