Funny how they become very quiet near their own nests until the babies fledge out. They're pretty secretive during that time when their nestlings are vulnerable to the sort of predation they practice on robins! I do love hearing the calls of blue jays though, and like seeing the flash of their colors when one of them whips through the yard. They're not shy about letting some other winged creature (or a cat) know that it has ventured into turf that's well guarded this season.

:)
Very true (secretive, but also loud and proud on their turf). I thought I may have heard baby Jays a couple of months ago, but I’ve only noticed adult Blue Jays, so not sure. I have seen them flash past our windows almost daily. It was nice to actually see them again. I love watching them hop among branches until they get to the top of the tree. They are quite pretty (so are male cardinals).

@Clix Pix Thanks as always.🤗

From the chirping we hear all night and into the early dawn, you'd think there was a variant of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" playing for the damn birds all night long. 😡

I’m sitting out here on my deck and the sparrows are squawking and complaining because I have nerve enough to be right out here just when they want to come and nibble on the birdseed I’ve put out for them! They’ve had ample opportunity earlier in the day to partake of the treats without my presence. Sorry, guys, for the time being we’re all going to be sharing this space! I’ll be back in the house in a couple of hours..... LOL!

A small t-storm is blowing through right now with some wicked gusts. The outdoor temperature dropped about 20 degrees in the last few minutes. That last part is welcomed as it's been too damn hot.

Better that than the annoying, whinny dogs who sound like they’re being tortured because their irresponsible owners won‘t let them in, out or whatever. They’d go on for all hours, if I did not shout something.

We have early birds here tweeting sometimes at 3:45 a.m. and they actually make me laugh. Sure, I think ‘what are they so cheerful about at this hour?’, but then I appreciate it because it’s nature, and not some pet being ignored, neglected etc.

One school of thought is birds sing at sun rise to celebrate getting through another night! I think they are just morning people!

Nice, especially if one can get that natural A/C going without having the storms take out trees and so put powerlines on the fritz in the process.

We're on about our fifth brief "fixin' it" power outage here now in the aftermath of storms last night, as utility crews make their way down the list of lines that got taken out up in the boondocks. They should resume some serious tree trimming up in their rights of way, I guess. I suspect they haven't really done much of that out in the fields and woods since whenever Iberdrola bought out NYSEG years ago.

At least it's a little cooler today, and even in the heat of the early afternoon there was still some air moving, unlike yesterday before all hell broke loose around here. When the air is dead calm and the darkening sky is almost green you know you're in for it.

We must have got a couple inches of rain out of the deal too. I thought I was transported to a rainforest there for about 10 minutes, couldn't even see 20 feet into the yard in the downpour. It was so dense and loud that it muffled some of the thunder. But then the wind picked up and moved a squall line east through here, and it got a whole lot cooler. No complaints from me... my only outages were when they switched us to a different substation just before peak of the storm, and then today while they fixed downed lines elsewhere.

We've been having our daily afternoon, sometimes into the evening storms, a few times they got seriously nasty - I think we might have had a small microburst a couple of days ago

Bolded, yup I have been through that (Saw red ball lightning once too, but thankfully no funnel cloud-tornado).

Wow. Heard something about that squall in your neck of the woods last night, wasn’t it close to 5” of rain?

Glad you and @D.T. are okay. Yikes, a micro-burst?!?

This was the outdoor temperature a couple of days ago, in the shade, when I came home from work.

Think the heavier rain for longer was east of here. Two inches in ten minutes made me grateful for that squall line moving it onward, else everything in the county would have flooded, it's all headwaters of creeks and rivers to begin with up here. Northeast of here a week or so ago they also had warnings of golf-ball sized hail. Don't know if that came to pass, I hope not... and I can't even imagine what a car looks like after that if it's parked outside.

Sounds like you dodged a nasty storm full of hail there. I’m sure insurance companies were glad too.

Liberia! Woo!

Funny enough, I always use C for computer related heat measurement/monitoring.
I was brought up with F. Funnily enough my dad has converted but my mum still uses F.

But then I still do my height in Ft and inches and my weight in stone and lbs. but every thing else it’s metric.
Well apart from beer. That’s definitely pints!

Posts above got me thinking why doesn't the US use Celsius? How many others don't?

Turns out not many! Isn't Google great.

I wish we used the metric system and got on board with everyone else for standardization and accuracy.

but I guess, ‘Merica.

'murican exceptionalism, we're lookin' at it! Actually I think there are a few Caribbean islands that still use Fahrenheit too. Still, the USA is the only big foot dragger left now on Fahrenheit and on use of metric system measurements in everyday life.

Once I mailed a link for a recipe to someone and it did have the ingredients listed in metric expressions. He complained and then took exception to my suggestion that he get over it and just buy a kitchen scale, since they're handy.

"A kitchen scale? Like drug dealers use? Are you crazy?"

I didn't know what to say really. But now I'm afraid to buy a new scale if mine breaks!

Glad you did not have to deal with the heavier rain.

o_O Golf Ball sized hail...

I hope you and everyone else will be safe from Tropical Storm Fay. We’re going to see a lot of rain tomorrow. May this be the worst anyone gets this hurricane season.

I saw a video once on why America has a different scale system, i forgot most of it but I can tell you this, they are about the only ones not using metric system and it confuses everyone not from the US.

I also find it amusing that people adjust to the system they are used to. So someone brought up weighing things in pounds finds weighing things in kilos very confusing, and the opposite is true.
