What if in 2020, the age of the Sun was 5 billion years older than it really is? Say we’d be 1 or 2 years away from it going red giant and engulfing the orbit of Earth.

I wonder what our collective priorities as humanity would be in that situation.
I watched a movie on Netflix about this the other day. The solution is to build planet engines and move the earth to the next solar system.

1-2 years? PARTAY!! 🙃 Honestly I could imagine a lot of negative, self destructive, hedonistic behavior.

Thanks, and I really hope your work situation (just read all that ...) turns out fantastically better. :)

Thanks 😘

Work. Well, I have to adjust my attitude to avoid stressing out. Not successful this morning.

I am very lucky considering, just have to rise above this mess for me.

Anyway, I hope you and everyone else had a nice Wednesday.

I've been there, and have the t-shirt; a somewhat stressful (occasionally very stressful) domestic set-up, and a toxic work environment.

Be kind to yourself, and, while it is easy to advise that one quit a toxic work environment as soon as is feasible, (the old argument - which I subscribe to, and one which has considerable validity - that nothing is worth your peace of mind or your mental and physical health, and emotional equilibrium), that is not always possible.

Still, even the very fact that you are planning for it will make you feel a little better, and somewhat in control of your own destiny.

As @Scepticalscribe says, be kind to yourself. If work is unpleasant, try to make time for the things in life you enjoy.
I’m on holiday this week but have an afternoon meeting to attend.

Agreed, @Apple fanboy & @kazmac; if stressed (by life and work) try to treat yourself by doing something - and making the time to do something - that you enjoy.

Someone else has the username SBG and registered it almost 10 years ago and hasn't been back since with only 29 posts. Site policy is to never ask a member to give up a username, no matter how long they've been absent.

So that leaves me with either coming up with a different name or keeping this one.

The only reason I'm considering changing it is because it is so long that it wraps to two lines on the forum and it bugs me!

I use the extra large font setting in the user preferences on the site so I can see more easily.

Hmmmm...

S.B.G.
S.B.G
SB.G
S.BG
S.BG.

I dunno...

No.....! 😭 I vote no change. Your profile name is classic. A piece of MR-Americana (no national exceptionalism intended).

Is there any setting that will prevent it from wrapping? It isn’t wrapping on my iPad. Petition @annk for an accommodation. I’ll start it.

I did adjust my browser settings the other day on my PC which brought the username to one line, but consequently also shrunk all the other text on the screen to my eyes displeasure.

Oddly, on my iPad (an older 9.7") it still wraps around.

Speaking of work, I am continuing to read Shop Class as Soulcraft - An Inquiry into the Value of Work. It effectively puts into perspective the angst I've experienced at various points in my working life, and is helping me to adjust my approach toward my current work.

You may find it useful, @kazmac. At a minimum, it's a thought-provoking read.

Thanks as usual. Always appreciate your perspective and the time you take to respond.🤗

I have not been in a toxic work environment in almost 15 years, so it is a little jarring. Mom and I are juggling my options (Give two weeks notice on 7-31 -which would bring in an additional paycheck- or hang in until previous jobs resume or they terminate me). I would rather leave first.

Stuff I enjoy: Drawing. I am drawing a little bit, not as much as I’d like. Cannot force that though.

Thank you both.😘🤗😘

Hope I get to see the Blue Jays again. They’ve been quite active (I hear them), but it was nice to catch more than a fleeting glimpse yesterday.

The problem with resigning, though, is that then it is likely you will not deemed eligible for unemployment benefits.....something to take into consideration!

Thanks, I know. 🤗 And if I am terminated/fired, I cannot claim unemployment either. So it’s either one or the other.

I am fortunate to have a choice and a back up job.

Found out today our technical manger who has spend more than 20 years taking a very high wage and enjoying praise off the back of myself and the other engineers for the work we have done, has been made redundant. The gravy train has finally come to an end. All the software he told his bosses he was able to use but didn’t bother learning because he could get us to do it for him means he’ll struggle finding a job at the same level elsewhere. I’m raising a beer tonight

I am never happy to see someone losing his job, but I understand your feeling. It feels like justice. Obviously, I hope that he learns his lesson, eats some humble pie, and finds a decently paying job.

Funny how they become very quiet near their own nests until the babies fledge out. They're pretty secretive during that time when their nestlings are vulnerable to the sort of predation they practice on robins! I do love hearing the calls of blue jays though, and like seeing the flash of their colors when one of them whips through the yard. They're not shy about letting some other winged creature (or a cat) know that it has ventured into turf that's well guarded this season.
