But, I think that people are psychologically wired differently from one another - it is not just a question of "financial responsibility" but is also to do with one's temperament.

For example, for you, Mrs AFB fulfills - or meets - more or less all of your emotional needs.

However, for some who are more extroverted, that is not the case.

I'm pretty introverted, in fact, exceedingly so, but a year without seeing anyone socially outside the house - and inside, Decent Brother was home for five days late last summer and - over the course of the year - I have hosted perhaps three or four other different people (the cheesemonger, a friend who does some shopping for me, a friend whose mother had died), during various visiting windows between the respective lockdowns - is not especially healthy, psychologically, not when your professional world is also in a state of suspended animation, as well.
Absolutely. When I was in my teens and twenties, the thought of not spend 2-3 nights a week in the pub with my friends would have horrified me. These days I’m happy enough at home most of the time.

Actually, it is over a year since I have spent an evening - or, even a part of an afternoon - in a pub.

I'll freely admit that I am looking forward to the day when I will be able to do so again, sipping a beer (or glass of wine) in quiet contemplation, but also enjoying whatever conversation is taking place.

Fantastic. Except most of my MR time is on iOS.
 Fine, you'll still have to use the onscreen return key, but this should help.

Last summer I had a visit to the pub. Also those work trips in November and December. But it’s not exactly enjoyable sat in a hotel restaurant at the moment. Anything but.

That is true; in fact, much of the joy - those small pleasures - has been tken out of life.

Today, in a local shop, picking up my weekend FT and organic milk, my glasses were - as always in winter - an absolute nightmare even when I keep cleaning them - the fact that I knew wheere everything was, was a huge help, as I couldn't actualy see anything.

I brought this week's weigh in forward by a day. 11 Stone 10 lb 6 oz or 164lb, 74.66kg depending how you look at these things. So that's the lightest I've been in my adult life. A very happy AFB.

But why did I weigh myself a day early? Because the fish and chip van comes to the next village on a Saturday! Guess what I'm having for dinner!

Hope your fish and chips went down well, and that you both enjoyed them.

I'm actually a bit terrified for the weather coming. My husband will be working through all of this. They booked him a hotel Sunday night and might do so again Monday. I'm worried I won't be able to leave the water drip properly and my pipes will freeze. Truth be told, I'm having a major panic attack but I've got nobody to tell this to.

Outside pipes or inside? Inside should be fine. Outside just cover them.

It's an apartment. I have zero control of outside. Inside I'll do what I can but I know we're not insulated for weather like this.

If this was Alaska, I would know exactly how to deal. Being where it is in Texas, this is a nightmare.

Open the cabinet doors -- kitchen, bathroom(s), wherever you've got plumbing -- and keep the heat on perhaps a bit warmer than you might otherwise do. And, yes, as you apparently already know to do, have all of the faucets dripping a little water so that this will help keep things moving and there will be less likelihood of the water and the pipes freezing.

In wintertime part of my usual nighttime routine is that after I've finished up in the kitchen I open the kitchen cabinet doors that are under the sink and leave them open all night. When it gets very, VERY cold, in the teens or lower, I also start the water dripping from the taps, too. My kitchen sink, while it has a very attractive view from the windows over the sink, unfortunately has the pipes on an outside wall, which is why I always am concerned about the possibility of those pipes in particular freezing. The two bathrooms are located differently and the pipes are on inside walls but nonetheless I still do the same with them when the weather is extremely cold.

Saw that someone decided to turn their Christmas lights back on as we were going through town tonight. :p

Snow is so uneventful here usually to the point that I remember MOST of the times we've ever gotten any in my life and how the day or week even went.

My wife always has chicken from the chop shop too whereas I have the fish. Haven’t had it since last summer though as we don’t have any takeaways while the rates been so high. I really fancy it, hope it was nice
It was. Mrs AFB didn’t react too badly which is always a bonus.
My blackbird friend just came by to have the few I saved him.

Damn, I haven't had a good fish and chips in I don't know how long. No actually the last time was at Heathrow airport an epoch ago - January 2018 on the way back from Canada after my father's funeral. I had a layover and took the time to have a very expensive but acceptable fish and chips and a pint of bitters at one of the airport pubs. Listened to a charming muscian play the harp as well. I really needed that at the but realize I still haven't had a proper fish and chips in forever. Even the pbus here serve lake perch with fries (sometimes chips) which is not the same. Once the situatiuon allows I have a lot of friends to visit in the UK and some pub visits for this and other British dishes I like (savory pies for example) are on my list.

Ah so you lived in Alaska, as you posted on the other thread, where about? That's hardcore, much more extreme than Ottawa or Montreal, I won't even mention Vancouver where I was brought up - everytime it snows there it's a mess as we usually get rain in winter.

Does your wife have an intolerance to certain foods? My wife is lactose intolerant and can’t eat greasy food usually. Melted cheese would see her off and anything deep fried. If we get fish and chips I have to use kitchen towel to absorb as much grease as I can lol.

There are more foods my wife can’t eat than she can. It’s a very long list. We mostly eat rice, chicken breast and 2-3 vegetables. That’s our staple 3 nights a week. Then wheat free pasta or rice noodles to change it up a bit.

That’s tough. My wife has her intolerances but is also incredibly fussy when it comes to food. Oh and she can’t cook anything lol. I quite often cook 3 different meals, one for me, one for her and the other for the kids. It’s knackering lol.
