Good grief, I was not trying to imply that anyone not on social media is odd nor behind the times (a boomer in other words). I don't thin k not being on makes one somehow superior either, I had a bad bought of insomnia and spent my time doing what is NOT recommended. Browsing and s-posting while my mind was racing...I did not mean to offend.
But have you not just insulted boomers by equating them with being behind the times?

Just sayin’.

So mom finally accepted my iPad Air today: AirDrop works brilliantly (so happy to have all my art on my iPad Pro. Yes, I bought another M1 11” since Procreate released a patch to work with the M1 iPad Pros.)

Mom is having a very rough time with the humid weather, just trying to be patient.

Job is really good, keeps me on my toes and I haven’t even started the job I was hired for.

Wondering what hardware Apple may announce on Monday.

Hope everyone here is okay. 🤗

Glad the job is working out. Quite hot and humid here today as well. Rain due tomorrow though.

Just returned from a weekend trip to the South coast. Get home, go in the front door, see cat (see left <--) waiting at the back door. Let her in, she promptly goes through to the front door, goes out, and rolls in the dirt. She could have walked around the house to the patch of dirt (shorter trip) but had to make sure that the staff (me) opened the doors for her.
Also, what's with cats rolling in the dirt? She's a kitty, not a doggy.

After 15 months away I need to fire up the external RAID box and back up all the photographs and video I took during that time. I am a little apprehensive the box contains two 4TB Western Digital Red NAS drives but they are circa 2014. There were no issues before I left the UK and the drives have never been heavily used, just backup of photographs, video clips and films. I just wonder, as they are traditional HDD's, whether there is any physical degradation by them just sitting around?

I think I would buy some new, fresh external drives -- they're really reasonably priced these days, even external SSDs -- and put your photos and videos on there first, just to be sure rather than taking chances with those 2014 drives.
Yes that's had been on my mind before leaving last year. I will most likely replace the WD HDD's and keep the RAID box as 4TB SSD's are still quite expensive.

I am assuming that it is a Western Digital MyBook drive. It is very specific what sort of drives it will take. You will have to replace it with the same type of drive. You can't just plonk any sort of 4TB drive in it.
OTOH, they are very reliable, I have had one of these systems since 2009. I have had to replace one drive, but the other is still going strong. There is testing software you can download from the WD site if you want to test your drive.

No the drives themselves came out of a Western Digital Thunderbolt Duo. I gave up on the box some time ago as it had some issues, just removed the drives, reformatted them, and put them into a generic RAID box which definitely has forgiving firmware with regard to drive options. I can't recall the manufacturer. I will be buying WD Red's again though.

I suppose I could test the drives and from a usage perspective I don't think they are at the end of their life my concern is more that they are physically deteriorating. I just hope they fire up when I get home tonight I need at least one working drive to transfer data to a new one.

That's why I suggested buying new drives and putting the new photo files, video files, etc. from your source (Computer? Camera? Memory cards?) on to them straightaway before even dealing with the older drives. This way you'll at least have your most recent files all safely backed up and stored. THEN you can worry about whether or not those files can also safely be stored on the older drives or if you need to transfer the data that is on the old drives to the new ones in order to then dispense of the older drives altogether. Do the new stuff first, then worry about the older stuff.

New stuff is fine it's already in two places, on my MBA SSD and a USB thumb drive. It's only around 20GB of data.

Think I will focus on the 2TB of data on the older drives :)

I'm wondering if I'm disappointed or just bummed by today's WWDC Keynote. I feel like I watched something I didn't need to watch. I hope people find the new features cool and interesting, but man I was hoping for so much more, especially with the Apple Watch, Car Play and TVOS. So much hype and maybe I got way too excited.

I converted to Apple products in 2014 and would never go outside of that ecosystem now. However, I am a real simple software user with an iPhone 8, early 2015 MBA and a 1st Gen 4k Apple TV. I would have to start a new thread about WWDC 'what's not on my mind'.
