Glad job is going well. But sent you a cheque? How 1980’s. I’ve been paid by bank transfer for decades.

Wishing your mother well.
They’re setting up direct deposit, it takes a couple of weeks to kick in.

Thanks for mom well wishes, I hope for it too.

Wishing my mom well too, but we’re currently at war to boot. My patience with her depression has tanked, she’s become almost impossible to deal with lately. Not that I am easy (certainly haven’t been), 😖 but our living situation hasn’t helped either. I’m grateful my work computer is upstairs, gives us some space.

EDIT: Mom and I are talking through last night’s argument and patching things up. We always do, but it’s been a challenge lately. Especially for her.

Early leave today for Monday’s holiday so I better get ready for work.

Happy Friday everyone. 🤗

Mork and I got up early to make a trip to Cridenhill, about 2 1/2 hour drive from home. Although Memorial Day is an American remembrance, I wanted to honor several UK soldiers I had worked with in the past. Two friends, who live in the area, met us and we placed a poppy on each grave. I had not been in the area in a number of years, it was nice to visit with my two friends.

Thank you for your service.

Just finished work for the evening so hopefully I can have all of the bank holiday off tomorrow.

Thank you for your service, and it is important to recognise and honour people with whom you have served.

Dinner is on my mind. Probably because I’ve been at it all day.
Cross trainer session
Dug out some monster tree roots.
Mowed the three lawns.
I’m ready to collapse.
But I did hit my May target of closing all three rings each day.

My neighborhood barbecue went went, the families stuffed themselves and had a good time. When it came time to clean-up my housekeeper and her assistant claimed because it was a bank holiday here they would not assist in the clean-up, as they left laughing! After finishing the pots and pans, I will consider typing up terminations letters for them! LOL!

Glad to hear it. You certainly had the weather for it.

Sounds as though a brilliant day was had by all.

Chatted to Other Brother for around 30 minutes this evening (June 1).

He reminded me that today was our parents' wedding anniversary, (mea culpa, and so it is), something that - to my embarrassment - had slipped my mind.

Okay, neither of them are with us any longer to celebrate this day (and date), but it is nice to remember it, (and them), for they were friends, lovers, and partners (a word they - especially my father - fell on with undisguised gleeful joy when people with egalitarian relationships started using it in the 1990s), every bit as much as they were our parents.

so the other day i need to make a run to the drive thru at the drug store, and i grab my glasses on the way out the door, slide them in to my side pocket of my hoody. get to the drug store, pick up my meds, go back home. didn't have to pull my glasses out. not long after getting home the wife needed to go to her eye dr and so i drove her, stayed in the car due to covid restrictions at the dr's office. she got done, we left and came home. walking in the house i put the key fob up, reached in my hoody pocket to take the glasses out so i could hang the hoody up, no glasses !! What? well in the past they have slipped out of the hoody pocket in the car, so out to her car and checked all over; floorboards, under the seat, the back seat area, floorboards, the console, the glasses holder even though i knew that was for her glasses, hadn't used it. got done looking in her car and went to my car that i went to the drug store in, looked all over in there too.

back in the house, checked hoody pockets, checked my chair, checked around this laptop, then started looking in stupid places, thinking maybe i had them in my hand when i got in to the fridge and absentmindedly set them down while grabbing something. looked in the junk drawer, the dog's bed, the garbage can under the sink. nothing.

back out to the car with a led bright flashlight, head on floor boards looking under the seats, running hands up underneath feeling the seat rails, lifting the edge of the weather techs, nothing! the wife gets in to the hunt, and she's checking the cars after i checked them. we checked both cars 3 times each. i gave up. they were just cheater glasses, but they were the ones i use for the laptop and for most signatures on purchases up town on debit card. throughout the day i checked here and there in the house, a couple more times in the cars. finally gave up, went to the store and bought me a new pair of cheater glasses.

a week later the wife takes her car to the car wash to get it washed and cleaned inside and out. she comes home, stands by the doorway and looks at me, and holds up my glasses!! "Where were they?" she says that the car wash guy said he found them under the driver's seat. No Way !!! i checked at least 4 times, several times with a flashlight, the wife checked a couple of times at least, and there's no way both of us could have missed seeing the glasses. just can't figure out where they were that we didn't see them but he found them just cleaning inside the car. this is another one of those life mysteries.

Different ending than I anticipated. I thought you would find them on your head but I am glad you didn't as it was a week later o_O Glad they were finally located.

here's another one, a blast from the past...the year is 1976, i noticed that i had a radiator hose leak on my '67 mustang, unhooked the hose clamps from the radiator and the thermostat neck, left the clamp from the radiator neck on top of the radiator, the clamp for the thermostat i left on the neck. only lived about 4 blocks from the auto parts store, took the hose with me, bought a replacement, back to the house. slipped the clamp on the hose for the radiator end, went to slip the other end on to the thermostat but noticed the clamp was missing? looked all over the manifold, air cleaner, under the car, any where in the engine bay it might have fallen to, nothing. checked the work bench in the garage, my pockets, nothing. walked back to the auto parts store and bought a new clamp, came home and went to slip it on and there was the old clamp on the thermostat neck!!!! WTF???? no one else was there at the house except the wife and she is not mechanically inclined, knows nothing about cars other than they take her shopping. there was no way i missed seeing it, there is no explanation, still a mystery all these years later.

wish i still had the 'stang!!

😁 Sounds like you need your glasses to find your glasses. I’m that way with coffee: need a cup to be able to make a pot in the morning. Setting it up on auto start the night before fixed that.

Yes with the coffee. We have two machines, an (almost) idiot-proof pod machine and a proper espresso machine. That gets used for early morning and late-night coffee. Once I am awake, I can use the espresso machine.

Ah.

I do so understand, sympathise with, and relate to, these posts.

And here is yet another person (poster?) who is only half way human before my first cup of coffee in the morning.

Insomnia and thinking about the multiverse theory. Also dumping (not completely cause of family connections) Facebook only to spend a ton of time on Twitter, Instagram and even installing TikTok for the first time is no improvement. Well actually I’m ok with it Twitter can be toxic but I find it less so than Facebook. Instagram is great for beautiful photos of scenery, aviation, sci-fi and anime and hot celebrities. :p

Never had a Facebook account, Twitter, Instagram or TikTok. Use Skype and WhatsApp to chat with family only. Could I be the only one in the world? Am I actually missing anything? Even being in quarantine in a hotel room the last 7 days has not driven me to social media (other than this forum). Is there something wrong with me or am I the only sane one?

Not the only one at all. I don’t have WhatsApp or Skype or any of the other socials. Never have. I’m not very social!

Good grief, I was not trying to imply that anyone not on social media is odd nor behind the times (a boomer in other words). I don't thin k not being on makes one somehow superior either, I had a bad bought of insomnia and spent my time doing what is NOT recommended. Browsing and s-posting while my mind was racing...I did not mean to offend.
