Happy Friday everyone.

Well...all caps alert:

I GOT THE JOB! 👏

I start this Monday and am trying to get all of the paperwork and such in before close of business day today.
Until this morning, all I received was an email from the IT department telling me my log in information yesterday. No tracking number for the company laptop I was issued, nothing.

So when I heard from an HR person today confirming Monday's start, I said I haven't received my work laptop yet and she sends the tracking number (It was due today, though HR person told me tomorrow).

In the midst of all of this, I ordered an M1 iPad Pro for pick up at my local Best Buy this morning (because I did not want to interrupt work setting up a new iPad next week), and arrived home with about 30 minutes to spare before Fed Ex showed up with the work laptop.

And the company wants a bio...

I have a great feeling about this company and am looking forward to starting on Monday.

Oh, I now really like the Red/Pink iMac, and think that would be my color of choice over the Green. Just waiting to see what Apple do with the larger iMac.

Happy Friday everyone. Thanks for the eternal encouragement, support, laughs and hugs. 🤗

Fantastic news; bravo, congratulations and very well done.

You deserve it and I really hope that the new job works out well for you and that you are fulfilled both personally and professionally (and, above all, creatively).

I'm delighted for you, after what must have been a very rough & stressful period over the past while.

Wow such good news to be seeing on a sunny Saturday morning. So happy for you @kazmac !! Yes spring is here!! After cool temps and lots of rain, especially last night, warm temps and sunny skies are in the forecast over the next week or so. It didn't prevent me going for a walk with my umbrella last night in the pouring rain just because though.

There seems to be some kerfuffle on on some other threads regarding "Lossless Audio", that apparently Apple has just invented.
Given that my ears no longer support* Lossless Audio,** should I care?

* There are some days that I am actually lucky that my ears support my glasses, much less Lossless Audio
** The only time Audio is Lossless is when the sound was first made. So if I am listening (with gracious patience) to a grandchild warbling through "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", that's Lossless. But, no matter how good the recording, and my playback equipment, listening to Callas singing Butterfly involves loss somewhere. I have been having this discussion with people since 1975, when 1/2 the people supported Vinyl, 1/2 the people supported CDs, and somewhere between 2/3 and 3/4 of the people just couldn't care...

So, yeah, that's what's on my mind.

"Given my ears no longer support lossless audio" haha. Great way of putting it. I know exactly what you mean

My ears support a surprising amount of hair growth. Ear/noise trimmers are obligatory when you get to a certain age.

Been gardening this morning and three trips to the tip. I’m exhausted. Digging out tree roots and the like. Just started to rain though, so I’m not planning any more for the day.
Mind you glad to report the second dose of the Covid vaccine hasn’t been like the first. No symptoms at all.

That's an interesting sequence of mental images you've laid out.

It's not that my mind wanders. Think of it as non-lossless reading attention.

I'm at a loss trying to figure out this "lossless" thing...... :D
I feel that way about a lotta "once you try it, there's no going back" products.

If I'm content where I am right now, and trying this new thing will ruin that for me, I'll just stay right here.

Then there's the weird elitism about audiophiles, which I get enough of… on Apple-centric tech sites. ;)

I have heard so much about lossless over the years, but the huge file sizes have always put me off. Just a better DAC can go a long ways to get better sound from MP3s, if you have a decent balanced set of earphones/speakers to begin with. Music is mastered to sound good on consumer grade stuff to begin with.

And yeah, there are so many things I never heard of until I ended up in Apple tech circles and social media really started to take off.

My heart goes out to the 21 ultra-marathon runners and their families who lost their lives while participating in 100 kilometers in China. As a former ultra-marathon myself, I know the difficulties involved normally, but you throw in a bad storm, and it becomes life-threatening.

Whew So glad you're okay.

Well, we are about to approach a new week and a week away from my grandpa’s surgery that was rescheduled to June 1st due to logistics issues for his lens.. I know everything will be OK this time and we’ll be good to go, but after something that strange and bizarre happens to you, your mind can’t help but wonder “what if…” and I really don’t wanna have to go through taking another day off, etc since I pretty much wasted the day last time.

I called on Wednesday and they told me that since the lens was damaged it would be sent back and they requested another one to be sent overnight and should be here this past Thursday and 100% it will be ready for June 1st. Part of me just wants to call tomorrow and see if it’s there, but I don’t wanna be that annoying person.. 🙃

My mind has been a wreck the past week because I hate waiting and hate not knowing, I would be fine if this didn’t happen to us once already but don’t want it to happen again. Yes, I’m a bit of a worrier. Although I doubt the hospital would either, as they wasted supplies the first time and I’m sure that has to mess with the doctor’s schedule, so I’d hope that everything will go smoothly this time.

@heyyitssusan Wishing you and your grandfather all the best on Thursday. 🤗

@Expos of 1969 Thank you.

The iPad Pro went back...running way too hot for my liking and while it was super fast with almost everything, it wasn’t performing any better with Procreate than my Air. Plus, I love Touch ID on the Power Button. So I’ll just wait for the next Air, unless there’s a really good sale on the 2020 256gb Air. It’s fine. Finally realize I do not need all the bells and whistles of the Pro especially when I cannot tell any difference in performance with the art app I use.

I hope everyone is okay. It’s 🥵 here today.

Thank you! It is actually on Tuesday June 1st, but am hoping everything will be ready to go this time. don't want a repeat of what just happened.

It's hot here for me too, but I'm in FL and summer for us starts in April :p

Oops. Next Tuesday... well wishes for Tuesday.

yep, FL is brutal. Hopes our cool breeze today hangs around.
Thanks, kazmac! I called the doctor’s office today and they said all is good to go so let’s hope nothing gets in the way of that.

I understand you completely @MacorNothing , my family is scattered all over, Canada, the USA and Greece. My friends are as well. One can only do so much through a screen.

In other news had the oddest dream last night. Was at a museum looking at old aircraft including a Swordfish. Met an old manager (a good one originally from the UK) and showed him my phone.

Some good news and maybe some bad news work wise. It has just been chaotic since 2018 ups and downs from losing my dad and nearly dying from flesh eating disease myself. Now besides doing some groundwork for the upcoming semester was amusing myself playing with Word, as well as a freeware equivalent of paintbrush to make memes as practice to prepare documents and brochures.

Although I can tell immediately if I'm listening to MP3 or AAC versions of music I happen to own both versions of... particularly if it's classical music.

EDIT: and that's even though I've noticed some loss of hearing as I get older. The different compression is still noticeable to me in the MP3 version.

@LizKat Classical music is the best way to check hearing and your audio equipment.

In other news this is one of the most adorable things I have seen on the internet today.

doggos greet their mistress

Some context, the young lady is 2018 Olympic gold medalist in women's figure skating Alina Zagitova who was away promoting a Japanese-Russian film called A Dog Named Palma based on a true story. Her Akita dog was presented by the Japanese PM back in 2018.
