The concept of a monarchy as a figurehead isn't a terrible thing. But the British monarchy is so...stale. I read an article where the Queen chastised William for kneeling down to eye level with his son while standing on a balcony, because then the crowd couldn't see him. What the F? That's a common parent thing to do, but no, we can't break etiquette or whatever. It all seems just so cold. Hey Queen, take the stick out yer keester.
The British monarchy and nobility is one of the last vestiges of civility and refinement left on planet Earth. Without it there would be nothing left except the great unwashed and the tyranny of the uncouth masses. :):)

At the rate the Queen is going, she'll be still be alive by then. Me personally, I don't care for the royal family, but would rather never see Charles as King.

Being a new employee, you'd think vested employees would be a little more patient, when trying to obtain information from the newer employee.

Hmm, apparently not. Maybe it is just human nature to want everything now, now, now...

Depends on the person I guess. I have pushed for stuff from new hires when I see they are adapting slower than usual without just cause (ie lazy). But if I genuinely see someone trying but not getting it, I will ask if they are familiar with whatever they have to do and might offer pointers.

Under the Australian constitution, the English Monarch (and therefore the Australian one) is not just a figurehead. He/She can (and has) sacked the Government via their proxy the Governor General. Look up The Dismissal.

Consider the kerfuffle if the Queen had sacked an American (or Russian) President (or even a Scottish Prime Minister)...

I sometimes wish she would. Then I splash cold water in my face.

For the first time in my life I have failed a test and am happy about it.

Son brought home Covid and tested positive.

So we tested ourselves and tested negative (i.e. failed).

Son is ok, taking paracetamol and resting (not really, he is online...)

Before the internet and smartphones, I feel as if I accomplished so much more, and I wasn't as rushed.
Beginning to wonder, if humans wanting things digitally, electronically and media/social media access, it is really going to haunt us, in years to come...

Hope he makes a quick recovery. I’m still fortunate not to have had it. Hopefully I never do.

The productivity of those who spend their work day on social media is pretty poor. They think they can multitask, but in reality they just do their jobs poorly.
FB is just a nightmare from what I’ve seen of it. Glad I never joined.

Your son will get better. As per failing a test, I have failed plenty of tests (school and medical) and have managed to be alright.:D

He is coping quite well. The cough isn't quite so bad and he seems to be improving. I think the worst day was yesterday.

As for us, we had our fourth Covid shot a couple of weeks ago, so I think we got them just in time.

What's on my mind? Am trying to make a conscious decision to not do work related things, outside work/working hours. A difficult task, since most of it is mental calculations and thinking of processes at work.

The struggle is real...

Sunday afternoon is the new Monday morning. Well has been for the last I don’t know how many years. But I don’t work every evening these days. Maybe 2-3. Used to be 5-6.

If you enjoy it, not really a problem. If it’s eating into your metal health, then you should make a bigger effort to separate work and private life.

Still here. Hoping everyone is okay. About to schedule round two of an interview for a remote position at a law firm that is not library based. I am finishing up my ABA Paralegal certificate program, so I am looking to be employed again stat.

Once employed, I intend to finish my Bachelor's Degree because it's required (I did the Paralegal certificate first to gain employment faster.)

If things were different here at home, I'd opt for hybrid or completely in office work.

Mom is hanging in, it's been super rough, but we're good considering. I am grateful.

Sending everyone a big virtual hug and wishing you well.

Watched that Jubilee party for the Queen and noted that only Andre Bocelli sounded great, if not audible.

Hi, Kazmac! Nice to hear from you and to know what you've been doing. Good luck with the job search and that sounds like a good strategy to get the paralegal certification first and to be employed while still working on your bachelor's degree. I think many law libraries also employ paralegals, too, and your library experience should be useful there if this particular job for which you're interviewing doesn't work out. Good luck!

Great to hear from you @kazmac, and very well done on your achievements. You should be very proud of yourself.

Look after yourself, stay safe & sane, and wishing you all the best for the future.
