I really hate both Siri, that I don’t use, and the inbuilt correction of words. In iOS in particular, and especially if we use multi languages I would assume as well.

So insanely unintelligent that it's scary.

The inbuilt "correction" of words is often not just wrong, but hilariously wrong, utterly and totally wrong, as, all too frequently, it insists on trying to substitute a word that it thinks you should use for the perfectly correct word that you have chosen to use.

Very tiresome.

The one I always remember is it trying to AC eight. I'm there yelling Eight is a word to the iPhone.

Dinner, a soothing, warming, dish, on this cold, dark, dreary, Saturday, one where the calendar informs us that spring has arrived, while the temperature and general weather bring the lingering nature of winter to mind.

Oh, poorly moderated Discord servers... Some nasty stuff going on, and the moderators just aren't doing anything about it. I get it, it's late at night, but the affected posts should be immediately removed. The guys who the owner assigns as moderators don't do anything. I have to DM them and demand that the content be removed. This server is really f***ed up. I have it muted half the time. I just wish it could be like the other servers I'm a member of—where it's a kind community of people who care about each other (and who read the rules before posting).

Ug, well I follow a few Discord servers too, my two main ones are terrific with a really nice community. Weird I know.

I have to say that I cannot abide the format on Discord, - it is unpleasant to use and hurts my eyes - and the continuous present - those endless running discussions - of the format would make it very difficult to moderate.

Never been on Discord. Same as FB and Twitter. Not for me.
Agreed, Discord is not for me.

Neither is FB (or whatever they call it - or it calls itself - now), a platform I deeply dislike.

As for Twitter, it used to be interesting at times, but has deteriorated drastically and dramatically in recent months.

My "main" one (that one with the most activity) is the best one. The voice channels are used almost every night, and it's nice to be able to do that, too. People are respectful, etc.

Now that's not to say the people in the one I was dealing with last night aren't normally, but that was a particularly bad instance. The moderation is just so weak that it takes mods several hours to deal with stuff. And what's so weird is that two are in American time zones, and the other two are in European time zones, so it seems like if something happened late at night (in an American time zone), like what happened just now, that someone would be able to quickly deal with it, but maybe I'm not understanding...

People have tried to convince me to join FB, but I'm never doing it. Nope. Neither am I joining Twitter.

Those are both pretty unusual for gigging musicians, no? It's sad but selling out in some form is almost a requirement for professional performers...

Lots of musicians use Facebook. I just don't like it. But you're right, I need to find a way to "advertise" myself better... so maybe that's the only option.

In order to become some sort of gigging musician as much advertising for oneself as possible will be required especially now after Covid where live music is pretty dead in many parts of the music scene yet. Social media will help. Of course, those of fame already may not require it that much.

The thing is, most mods are volunteers, and this - moderating such a thing - is a time consuming gig. For something that does not pay, and - candidly - can be a less than rewarding experience, - this is a lot to ask of people.

Moreover, the atmosphere, the mood, on some social media platforms may be such as to compel those who spend their time as mods to re-assess their priorities in life; etiquette on social media is still evolving, and to ask people - irrespective of whether they receive remuneration or not - to deal with the abuse and discourtesy and disrespect that is so prevalent on much social media - for, some people seem to view the anonymity conferred by a social media platform as a licence, as permission, to say whatever they wish, and act as though they believe themselves absolved of the need to do so with any semblance of courtesy, manners, or respect - is a lot to ask of anyone.

Furthermore, very often, moderating such a platform is not just a a time consuming gig, but it may also be one where the lines of communication (between mods and admins, higher up the social media hierarchy) - and the respective powers or authority - may not be especially clear.

Above all, guidelines on what is accepted behaviour and conduct, in other words, the rules of the house, are often constantly evolving, - what one can say and how one can say it are matters of ongoing huge debate in the online world - and may not necessarily be consistently applied, or thought through, or may be constantly changing.

And some sites have capricious owners with narcissistic personalities who are easily triggered and who deeply dislike being challenged, or questioned, and who choose to arbitarily change the rules - whenever rules exist - on a whim, or whenever the mood takes them, sometimes without even having the courtesy to inform their own staff.

The main thing if you're are going to be really successful in life is to live authentically.
Sure you can make a big career and follow everybody's advises, and not yourself, and make lots of money and fortune, and then go killing yourself, because you lost yourself on that road. Not uncommon. But that is not success, even if money is rolling in.
Your integrity and self-respect means everything. Adoration and attention will never make up for loss of integrity if you're not being true to yourself.
If you hate social media, you will find another way. You can have someone else taking care of your social media if you decide that you still want to be visible on those places, you don't have to do it personally.
From my perspective, it's just the dumbheads of celebrities that don't have a life that hangs on social media.
Smart people don't hang there, but might have someone running their advertising there for them.
Good Luck.

I just spent the past 2 hours playing and arpeggiating different scales and chords in sixteenth notes so I can strengthen my left hand even more. The challenge was to do it with proper fingering and to make sure I wasn't tensing up my arms/fingers during the process. If I couldn't do it, I'd slow it down until I could. I actually enjoyed it a lot, but it was hard to not get frustrated and lose patience with myself.

I'm gonna try to do this every day—maybe not for 2 hours, but man, if I do this every day for a month, I can't imagine what I'll be able to do just in that amount of time!

I'm starting to worry my two banks were involved with bank that SVB collapse! How safe is your bank?
I sure hope my bank is safe and free from collapse! I actually don't know though, I should be looking into that. I don't think it was (or is) involved with Silicon Valley Bank though.

Something that just came to mind is how can people post so many posts so fast! One person joined at Feb 16th 2023, and has 173 posts. Me? I’ve been here since September 16th 2022 and I posted 143 times. Geez. People must be posting whatever the first thought that comes to mind.

I joined on March 5, 2022, and by March 20, I think I had something like 120 posts. I honestly don't know how it happened.

Watching Liaisons on TV+ right now. The main protagonist has had her iPhone stolen for more than half a day and hasn’t disbanded it via activation lock or tried to locate it via find my. She’s just awfully chill for a high-level government agent who has just had a vital piece of communication equipment taken.

Come to think of it, a lot of tv show plots probably wouldn’t happen if people used just 1% of their phone’s functionality beyond simply making calls and sending texts.

yes, you will at times find that those of us posting more don't necessarily have more wisdom at hand, certainly not when it comes to planning what to do with our time :D

Often, it - a habit of frequent or regular posting - will coincide with stuff that is happening (or, not happening) in their personal and professional lives.

And, for some who post frequently, MR is one of the few online spaces they frequent, as they are not usually all that active on other online platforms.

MR was the first online community I ever joined, and for a long time, MR was the only online space I ever frequented; I'm not on FB, for example, and generally eschew the online world.

You made - that is, you wrote, and despatched - approximately 120 posts; that is how it happened.

There is this, agreed.

Certainly, when I first joined this forum - in order to ask a question about a new MBP I had recently purchased - I never expected, or envisaged, or imagined, that I would still be here, - and still posting - all of nearly 15 years later.
