I agree but the bigger issue is that the supposedly impartial BBC is far from being so. It has become an outlet with many vastly overpaid on air "personalities" (Gary Linneker should be a bartender at a pub in Skegness) and senior executives who are buddy buddy with the Government and this clearly impacts on the reporting.
I would venture to say that the issue is the format itself of news today. Without going political, it seems that most news is actually now a bunch of talking heads discussing non-issues ad-nauseam with a totally idiotic news banner that utilizes violent verbs (“slams”, “destroys”, “attacks”, “butchers”, “crashes”) to describe a simple disagreement or uncomfortable situation.

Agree completely about the totally unecessary (and lamentably excessive) use of verbs of violence, verbs that suggest aggression, to describe disagreement.

The BBC and how it is a mere shadow of what it claims to be. It is now trying to spin its way out of the fact that it has agreed (submitted) to have the Palace review and determine what coverage of the Coronation can be shown to the public. The public is paying for this ridiculous event and yet it can only see what the freeloading family allows it to see. Very sad...

Not everybody in the country feels the way you do about the Royal family or the event, I certainly don’t. I think it’s fantastic for the country and the boost our economy so desperately needs at the moment. The Palace are protective of the coverage for very good reason and we can thank the scummy tabloid press for that in the past.

Well I on the other hand am looking forward to watching as much of it as I can. The first coronation for 70 years and a tradition going back as far as King Edgar's coronation in 973. A once in a lifetime event. I fully support the monarchy and think they do a marvellous job for the United Kingdom. Can't wait!

For some of us "golden oldies," this is actually a twice in a lifetime event..... :)

I never watch the news anymore. I read it online. That way you can skip the articles that are not of interest. Of course I’m not interested in 75% of them right now. They are all about the same event. I’ll be glad when it’s over.

Wish UK and King Charles III a good time 😊

We have monarchy in Sweden too, and I'm in favor of it as well. Think it provides a certain stability beyond the changing and sometimes turbulent politics. But no the monarchy have no political power, their power of stability is different.

Our King have been sitting a loong time now too, from an early age when his father died in an accident. Next time around we will have a reigning Queen here. Not too soon I hope. The King still have some life left in him I think.

Why do bank holiday weekends always seem to be wet? Rubbish weather today and due for the next two days. Not a fan of being stuck in the house.
So just about to put the wet weather gear on and go for a walk.

Well it might be three. I mean he’s no spring chicken is he?
Heh.... Interesting point! I suppose it is possible that I could outlive him, since he is a mere three years younger than I am. Wouldn't that be something?!

I have to laugh: old habits die old! I just did a quick Google to verify his birthdate and automatically typed in "Prince...." rather than "King...."

Since I am not a morning person I did not arise very, very early in order to watch today's festivities on the telly. I"ll make do with a summary later on TV and online as well as photos.....

I think it will be easy enough to catch up on.
Back from our walk. Didn’t get too wet. Just a light drizzle.
Had a chat with our neighbours when we got back.
Mrs AFB bought some plants when we were out. The guy was telling us about watching the last coronation. He was working on a farm and the farmer invited them all in to watch it.
In the UK lots of people got their first TV for the coronation. Funny to think how many devices the average home has to watch TV on now. At least 7-8 in our house.

I don’t watch them either. It’s one of the reasons for me to not have cable. However, when I am doing cardio at the gym there are several TV screens with news channels on - and subtitles - placed right in front of the machines so it’s almost impossible to not watch at least several minutes of it.

Seems like a solid use-case for VR goggles.

Or peril-sensitive sunglasses.

There’s a famous Italian comedy series from the 1970’s and 1980’s called Fantozzi (incredibly the first two movies are also released with English subs with the title “White Collar Blues”). One of the episodes features the “Employee’s cloud”, that is a personal cloud that every employee has. This cloud can wait without showing even for years, hidden from everyone, until their personal assignee goes on vacation - at which point such cloud will show up to make the vacation rainy and miserable. As a kid I thought it was a joke, as an adult and as an employee… I guess it’s real.

Spent some time looking at photos, video clips and such....so now I'm caught up with what's been going on across the Pond today! I found myself more interested in William, Kate and their family than I was in the main stars of the show. The next generation is waiting in the wings now.....

My family bought our first television either to watch the McCarthy Hearings or Queen Elizabeth's Coronation. Don't recall just now which came first, but I do have vague memories of seeing both. As a little girl, needless to say the pageantry and formal ceremonial imagery of the coronation was much more appealing to me than some people sitting around asking questions and testifying about stuff I didn't understand and didn't care about.

I have one television set and occasionally I have used one of my computers or iPads to watch something as well. I'd never watch TV on my iPhone -- screen is way too small.

Not interested in VR goggles, thank you very much!

I hear you.

A more minor version of this issue is my own groan about how Saturday - which is often (although not always) the day I head into the farmers' market, seems to be wet surprisingly often.

Got an email from a singer (a fairly well-known soprano actually) who wants me to do a recording of her studio concert for her to publish. Never got this kind of request before, so I think I'm going to oblige. I have no idea where she's gonna do this recording (and what kind of recording gear I might need to bring), I guess I'll find out!

Also, I'm seeing if I can get a steady gig (hopefully at least once a week) playing in a hotel lobby. I really want to do it (I played there once before and they really enjoyed it, according to the manager). I know this sounds stupid, but I haven't quite built up the courage to send in an audition tape and see if they'd be willing to hire me. I can't keep waiting though, soon it'll be too late! If I don't get it, I've got lots of other opportunities, but playing at this particular venue would be a sweet gig if I can get it, so why not try and see what happens!

If you send your first audition tape I will send $50 to your favorite (non-political and non-religious) charity. I’ll trust your word, and I will post the receipt (less my personal info if any).
