Sounds lovely indeed!
Yes, it was.

My dad's anniversary (the anniversary of his death) occurred on the third of May, Decent Brother started in a new position (he is a solicitor, a lawyer, working with the state) this week, and today is his birthday. So, much to discuss.

We had a brilliant chat; we almost always chat for at least an hour, sometimes two, today - our chat was around three and three quarters hours long, actually, 3 hours 39 minutes - (followed and preceded by a few emails) it was a wonderful chat.

This is not just the joys of living in the UK, but the very particular joys of living in the UK when it is supposed to be summer, or approaching summer.
Been very warm and sunny here today. Visited the old Cain's Brewery in Liverpool. An enjoyable afternoon. Bought some coffee beans, "Gothenburg Black kaffe Worship" and a couple of books; The Regeneration Trilogy by Pat Barker (I know a favourite of yours (and mine)) and A Russian Journal by John Steinbeck which I haven't read.

Ah, the Regeneration Trilogy.

Wonderful.

It is not just a favourite of mine (do enjoy, if you intend to re-read), it is also a work I have given as a gift on numerous occasions, so highly do I rate it.

I haven't read the work by Steinbeck, (though I do love East of Eden which I think an excellent book); look forward to reading your impressions and thoughts.

Coffee beans, books......what more can one ask?

Reddit is increasingly becoming the new Twitter as far as toxicity goes, even in non-controversial subreddits. Quite pathetic to see.

A pity to see this happen, not least because it is nice to think that discussion and debate and conversation - an exchange of perspectives - can occur in the public space (a sort of modern, online version of the old town square, something akin to the agora) without toxic comments and offensive remarks replacing and supplanting and silencing genuine conversation.

Went yesterday and sold two of my synths I wasn't using to a music store. Glad to have those off my hands. And I made a little money in the process, so that's good. Now time to sell/recycle my old laptops I don't need!

Books, bills, beer......

Actually, there is a little more on my mind than that.

Nevertheless, I love books - the physical act of reading an actual book.
You have referenced bills frequently over the past few months. I hope things are OK financially. Time for an exciting overseas assignment?

Hopefully there is something in the pipeline.
Indeed.

This is my hope, - my fervent hope - as well.

Decent Brother and I were remarking that a few years ago, you would simply pay a bunch of bills, forget about them, and proceed to carry on with the rest of your day.

Now, there is a degree of juggling and planning - such as deferring other stuff - with such things.

Indeed there is. For many more than it used to be. Times are hard for plenty of people right now. Good luck with it.

I gotta say, I'm really getting tired of just staying at home every day (with the exception of a couple days last week and tomorrow when I go in), because these are the two weeks where students work on their senior projects, which is great, but it's getting really boring, just staying here working. I get there are things I can do to rectify this, but I just want something else to happen, you know?

I just played at a session tonight, and the last tune we did was two chords: Am-E7 in a Cumbia style. Was probably the most fun I've had in months! Because I played melodica on the tune, I was catching the hits with the horn players during the drum solo. Gosh, it was a blast! Though on some tunes I felt like I was literally about to pass out because I was blowing so hard into that melodica!

This is why you go out to jam sessions (something I don't do enough)!

It is important to remember that what inspired you to want to study music in the first place is the fact that you love music, and enjoy playing musical instruments; don't lose sight of that when your formal studies of music take over your life, as they inevitably will.

Life’s what you make it. I go out a handful of times a year. Suits me.

Viva la difference! Or de gustibus non disputandum est (In matters of taste, there can be no dispute). I like occasional outings especially in natural settings - but as I commute partly by bicycle and partly by train I enjoy home as well.

I was talking socially. I go to the office a couple of times a week. I think that’s about the right mix for me.
