Oh yet another thing that annoys me is that with the camera connection kit you need to import the photos in order to view them full size. While they are on the memory card all you get is a thumbnail.

Most annoying thing would have to be the weight/ergonomics of it. It's not bad (and much better than iPad 1) but still not great to hold and work with for any length of time. Fine if you can put it on a table/your lap, but sometimes you can't.

Then there's the cameras.. and you'll have to excuse a little self-promotion here, but I'm a dev specialising in image processing so they're both a huge annoyance and a good opportunity ;) There's a few things wrong with them. The hardware, of course. But the software is annoying too. The camera on the back is 1280x720, so why does it take photos at 960x720? It fits on screen nicely, but you lose a third of the picture! Then there's the 'take photo' button, right in the middle of the bottom of the screen. Like as far from your thumbs as they could put it. This really isn't helpful when you're trying to hold a fairly large, heavy device stable to take a picture in one hand while poking it with the other!

[And that self-promotion bit - I wrote an app (Camera Boost) to try and make the cameras a bit more useful. It can take photos and video at full resolution, and it can do noise reduction, white balance and lighting adjustment, plus a bunch of other stuff, in realtime (that a5 is a powerful beast :)). If you use the cameras on the iPad and it annoys you it might be worth a look.]

Lagging Safari keyboard

I found that when typing on my keyboard, it lags so badly...also on my ipod touch on ios5... Dang! Asspecially when using Safari to type the url address...

For the most part I really like it, my two complaints would be the awful music app in iOS 5, and the lack of some sort of multi-user option.

Dropbox works great for that

Bring it into iTunes, they show up under books and can be synced including wirelessly. Worked fine for me.

  • Dual speakers - I would like a second speaker put on the iPad across from the current one. This would require repositioning either the lock button or the headphone jack.
  • Matte screen - This would fix issues with light reflection, finger prints and scratches, although screen brightness and clarity might take a hit depending how the matte screen was compensated for.
  • Rubber "feet" - When I put the iPad down on a table, I want it to stay there. I would like to see little rubber pads placed under the four corners of the iPad.
Beyond that, just give it a higher resolution screen, a faster processor, more RAM, and better cameras. The usual stuff.

You can turn auto lock off.

If you do that the screen never turns off... I have to push the lock button to get the screen to go off. When I go to turn it back on there is the swipe to unlock screen.

What I am saying is that it would be nice if you could turn the swipe to unlock off.

Unless I am missing something.

Do you know you can take a photo with the volume up button on the iPad 2 as well as iPhone? It's easier, but because the button is near the lens, it is quite tricky too :(

Safari. The second I need to browse the web my iPad2 goes away and the closest in reach of my Android tablets comes out.

Folders staying open in the background
Having to hit the home button to close a screen instead of taking the screen
Having to fumble through through to do simple things like change brightness, turn on/off location services ( sbsettings how I miss the)
Inability to respring.
The inability to change the time delay the lock screen goes dark.

Yeah, I know. It's not good on the iPhone either - if you have the buttons at the top, it means the lens is at the bottom, usually behind a finger. I think the volume button trigger is pretty overrated until they move either the buttons or the lens :/

Really... your most annoying thing is Safari, an easy to fix problem using 3rd party apps?
A 3rd party brower (Atomic) was one of the first apps I got a few weeks after buying my first iPad (iPad 1) a year and a half ago. Never went back to Safari.

In order to qualify for "annoying", an issue would have to be impossible or very difficult to solve.

Well let's see here. Another day's gone by and still nothing. I'm so happy with my iPad 2.

Just don't get me started on batterygate ha...ha..ha...ha..

This one is about iOS, but it is going to keep iPads out of certain classrooms and households: the are no app or folder-specific parental controls. It would be ideal to flag apps as requiring a pass code (I'm looking at you, Angry Birds). Alternatively, I could work with having pass code locks on folders.

4:3 outdated? For TV's, maybe, but they are essentially single use, single aspect, devices. When was the last time you saw a 16:9 book, or PDF?

Movies, TV shows and games look a lot better on 16:9/10 no? Books, PDFs and websites work just as good on 16:9/10.

Apple will leave this cramped aspect ratio come iPad 3.

I disagree. To me websites don't look as good on a widescreen. They feel cramped, with it being more frequently necessary to scroll vertically. I also feel that it makes the portrait orientation far less useful. Documents are squashed down because of the reduced width.

Opinions on the matter aside... Changing the display ratio now would create serious compatibility issues with existing apps, as they were only designed to run at the current 1024x768 resolution. So most likely Apple will keep it 4:3.

4:3 is more versatile. i actually like iphone's 3:2 better.
