The depth of field is going to be a feature exclusive to the iPhone 7 Plus, two lenses are required to achieve the effect.
And yes the camera is going to be that much better than that of the IPhone 7 4.7 inch Model and previous iPhone models.
And the Optical Zoom feature is important because if you try to take an up close photo of something small such as a wrist watch for example, you can only get so close to the Watch with the iPhone camera that the focus no longer works so you need to move away from the object, in other words, macro photography will benefit from the optical zoom as well
I mentioned the advantages of the Plus model above, 3Gb of ram Vs 2gm is a big deal as well and a very welcome addition

Thanks for the explanation! The camera was my biggest concern, though the extra gb of RAM is also a nice bonus.

I'd say with each launch it tilts more towards the Plus. iPhone 6 was probably 75/25, last one was probably 60/40, and now this I'm guessing 40/60.

Maybe people are doing it for the dual lens camera.

I've had the 6 plus and the 6S plus so it was always going to be the 7 plus. I need a phablet. I've been using them since 2012 and I'm not going back to a tiny camera.

A tiny camera? o_O

The masses have accepted that the plus isn't too big. On top of that Apple has officially started to distinctively build the two devices different beyond size.

I'm sort of surprised too, but I guess it's the more power-users and die-hards you see on here anyway. I went with the 7 myself just because that phone is just too damn big for my day to day use.

For me, the main draw of the plus model is a larger screen and better battery life.

In an ideal world, the Apple Watch would have a cellular connection, and I would have something the size of the iPad mini with unlimited data in my purse at all times. Something with you always (watch) and something highly portable but large enough to read comfortably (small tablet). Then take your pick for the home device - Mac Mini, laptop, etc.

The Series 2 Watch with GPS and the iPhone 7 come as close as I can get to that right now.

Plus my 5S has developed an intermittent overheating/ghost touch problem, so I'm due for an upgrade. Go big or go home, right?

People on enthusiast forums generally tend to be early adopters, and generally tend to want "the best one" when it comes to new products. When the 6/6+ came out, the only thing the 6 was "better" for was the minor Optical Image Stabilization in the camera, and it had some real downsides (landscape was very buggy initially, the phone was clunky and awkward to hold and use).

With this generation, the dual camera is a clear and visible difference that puts the Plus version handily into "the best one" category, despite still being clunky and awkward to hold and use.

You can also tell which one Apple thinks is the new hotness because that's the one they feature in all the ads. With the 5S it was the Gold one, with the 6S, the Rose Gold one, and with the 7, it's the Plus-sized Jet Black with the dual-camera layout. That's what you saw in the Jony Ive video, and that's what gets thrown in your face on apple.com as soon as you visit the site.

My reasons:

1080p
Higher PPI display
Better camera
3gb RAM
Bottomless battery life

Novelty and diversity. I've had the 6S since launch day and going with 7+ is a bigger leap than going from the 6S to 7. It's just a more interesting move.

For me, I've been using a Samsung S7 edge for about 8 months now. I've had EVERY iPhone since day one. The main reason I bought the Samsung was the camera. Hands down it takes pictures that iPhone can't even come close to with the 6s plus. I really hated the way iPhone pictures were very blotchy and pixelated when you zoomed in to look at them.

The 7Plus is supposedly a big upgrade in the iPhone camera and I love the idea of Optical zoom with dual lenses versus purely digital zoom.

I ordered the 7plus black so hopefully we will see if Apple is going to make me use my Samsung camera less often.

I feel like you just said what I picture the main user of the 7+. Someone who can carry the phablet in a purse or bag at all times. I can't imagine having a phone that big because it barely fits in my pockets, let alone trying to take it out on a run.

Maybe the world is leaving my ancient 41 year old ass behind. Maybe all you young kids have purses & man bags & cargo shorts. Personally, I like being able to easily slide my phone in my back pocket. I'm still on the 5S as well, so size isn't really an issue for me.

I'm going from SE to 7 Plus.

Probably feel funny for a few days but I missed the size of the 6 and really liked the camera on the Plus.

Battery life, camera, screen size.

Once I got my 6+ I started to realize the power of having essentially a mini-tablet in my pocket at all times. I can essentially run my entire small business with my phone now. Granted, I could probably do those same things on a smaller device but I experience no annoyances by having a bigger phone.

My main reasons for the Plus -

- More screen real estate. Hard to go back after owning the 6 Plus so long. I barely use my mbp/iMac for general browsing anymore.

- Battery life. For convenience's sake, I'll take every ounce I can get.

- 3 GB Ram. Both phones will scream, but the 3GB ram will make the plus more future proof and better all around. I don't expect a huge difference in day to day use but it will be nice to have.

The dual cameras are cool, but with the current feature set - 2x zoom initially is it - not really a factor for me at all.

I have SE and 6s Plus,

preordered 7 regular 128 matte black

I already know what phablet experience is like 2 years later, having had 6+ and have 6s+ yes I'm curious of telephoto but nice narrow DOF/bokeh photos doesn't come until a few months later, and I dont feel like waiting, I feel like test driving

I also had the 4.7" for one month when 6 first came out, but after a bit, didnt feel too different from 4" after the adjustment period is over and figured if i was getting uncomfortable, might as well go the full mile... we'll see though, maybe I've come full circle.

Truth be told if 7+ weren't backordered, I'd try for one of those and perhaps keep the one I like more,

SE is staying around regardless, now that plus features of improved battery life and OIS are in smaller, maybe thats the way to go?

And one phone is staying regardless, at minimum, as jailbreak is a requirement but now that I have two phones, I dont have to wait for jailbreak to upgrade...

But getting 7-- that narrows usage gap between SE and 7, vs mini and phablet, so we'll see. And maybe the phablet battery improvements with A10 fusion will be colossal, and i'll re-evaluate. same with 3GB ram. but wouldnt be surprised if apple limited the performance of +1gb on top to camera processing, and drew the line in the sandbox, to take it away from dev access.

probably not... but maybe? :p

Also- fwiw , just shooting from the hip, I feel like 6 was 2:1 regular to phablet users. now it feels like 2:1 phablet purchasers, but who knows if it will be a fit for them?

Camera and battery life.

I've learned to deal with the large size of my 6+, so may as well replace it with the same form factor.

Well...I'm 46 and ordered the 7+. I have a 6s+ now and love it. Fits in my handbags just fine and I don't find it at all clunky or awkward to hold. Carrying a phone in a back pocket sounds foolish to me because it wouldn't take much to accidentally sit on or bang it against something and break it. It would also be a invitation to pickpockets I'd think.

I moved in the reverse direction, from 6S+ to 7. The dual camera is POTENTIALLY awesome, but I'm personally still unsold.

My understanding of the bokeh feature is it only works in "portrait" mode. It also relies on in-device facial recognition to determine which "level" to keep in focus vs the other levels to blur -- consequently, it is unclear whether the effect would work when photographing an object, for example. Not to mention that the release date for the software upgrade hasn't been announced yet. Probably sometime in October, but who knows? What if it's November or, heaven forbid, even December?

I'm kind of thinking it will be cool, perhaps with some bugs and tweaking to the bokeh effect that will need to take place in subsequent updates. But it's possible that the 2017 model will be imminent by then.

this is my third + size iphone... I won't go back to a smaller one (unless I'm forced to because they stop making them... but I won't be happy!)

oh... and I'm getting in the 16th....

For me I had the normal 6. At that time I felt like I didn't want to go too big from the 5, so now I've had that 2 years I now want to go bigger and the camera has fully made my mind up also, so others are maybe on the same wave length or are probably swayed more because of the camera difference

That's what I'm saying though. I can see females more inclined to get the 7+ because it fits in a purse. Guys don't tend to carry purses. And my phone is ALWAYS in my back pocket. That's where phones go. If I had a 7+, it would be an invitation to pickpockets because it would always be sticking halfway out.

Again, easier for a female to carry the phablet when you always have a purse or other bag that you can put it in vs a pocket.
