I'd really like to get into blacksmithing. It just seems expensive to get all the stuff I'd need. I don't know anyone who does it, so I have no shop at my disposal. I dunno why, it just always seemed cool to me. My great-grandpa was a blacksmith.
My son did blacksmithing: it's really not expensive to set up. A furnace is not a difficult thing to build, nor is an anvil...
;)

Hmmm...hobbies...

Running - Sprints mostly, but I'm eventually going to have to switch to long distance once the college track career has ended. Currently running the open 400 indoors and outdoors and running the lead-off leg on the 4*4 relay.

Surfing - Yeah, there's not a whole lot of waves in Texas, but it's still damn fun to noseride a 9'6" longboard with a bunch of friends. And occasionally, during a hurricane, you could even break out the shortboards.

Reading - Anything and everything, I love to read.

Music - Don't know if this really counts, but I'm always looking for new bands, new artists, etc. Just recently found The Slip and Medeski et al, so currently in a contemporary jazz phase.

Lifting - Goes well with the track running, but also beneficial when it comes to the ladies. ;)

Writing - As bizzare as this sounds, I'd much rather write a paper than take an exam anyday. I don't really know why, but I've always found paper writing much easier. I also like to write things down, i.e. my thoughts, opinions etc. Just out of habit or personal preference I suppose.

Cars - I'm stripping and completely restoring a 1976 Super Beetle Cabrio with the help of my dad.

Really...I may just have to look into this. I have a lot of time to kill this summer, and I don't want to waste it doing nothing.

If you're really into the idea, I'll get him to advise you on what you need. Let me know.

Well besides Apple and Macs, I like (digital) photography. Love doing on my free time. In the future I would like to try out film photography as well. But right now digital is more convenient for me. I would also say that I like computers, but I guess that falls into the Mac category.

I always dreaded being asked what my hobbies and interests were in interviews – my mind always seemed to go blank...

Anyway, my main interests are football (watching, not playing) and regular trips to the cinema. Nothing too bizarre or unique but it keeps me happy. :)

I ride horses (english, not western) ... preferably jumping.

Scubadive (it sucks big time that the dive computers aren't compatible with Macs... NONE of them)

Downhill skiing (I lived two years in Austria)

But right now, I tend to work too much. :(

I am into lots of things, good thing we have 4 seasons, so I can take a break from some, and it keeps them new!

- Motocross / Supercross (have 3 Dirtbikes 2 KTM and 1 Honda) <-- is also into jumping :)
- Digital Photography of Motocross, and other Motorsport events.
- European cars (run a website and freelance some articles for other websites)
- Mechanic and assist friends with building projects and work.

Also like to read bout ancient civilisation. Been trying for the last three years to give myself a classical education but gonna nail it this summer. Finished my college exams last friday and have since started to learn how to read ancient Greek and Egyptian Hieroglyphs. Doing it at home is a crude and much harder way of doing it but if thats what it takes...

Sailing :) preferably traditional scandinavian wooden boats (from vikingship replicas and up through the ages)

Quite amusing thread, this. I always thought that we consisted mainly of pale nocturnal pizzavores; and it turns out that people do all sorts of things.

that is so cool...i wanted to learn ancient hebrew (and started) and read the related parts of the bible, hopefully, in context

somehow, i just don't trust the gop to tell me what the meaning of the good book is ;)

Well, I knit - a lot (hence, yarngrrl), but that's also a fxn of my job (I run a yarn store). I also weave, do glass mosaics and fusing, play a ton of Scrabble, Atari 2600 and 8bit Nintendo (child of the 80s), and love to watch football (the American kind) and listen to NPR.

That's pretty cool. I consider myself to be somewhat of a shipwright. My dad is a 4th generation master boat builder, and if I dropped the ball, I'd hate myself forever. I don't do it as much as I like. Materials are hella expensive. I mostly just help out on his projects when he needs it.

Along with all the other stuff I do, is pipesmoking. Contrary to popular belief, it is a hobby. An expensive one at that. I've given a shot at carving my own pipes, but they never turn out quite good.

Well....

Sadly (or rather, happily) enough, my hobby is an extension of my job. I'm a translator who makes a living translating patents, but in my spare time, I translate the works of my favorite authors.
