I have 2 phones to insure. Going with Squaretrade will save me $60, plus the lower deductible (IIRC). So, I'm thinking I'm going that route and will just hope I don't have to file a claim like the last two years.

No Track record. You dont appear to be able to take to get repaired and then get reimbursed. Have to send in and wait 3 to 5 days. No idea what you get back either. Also, its a repair plan that seems to expire upon repair.
Yeah but every company has to start somewhere. Was a small price to pay, and honestly if they give me a @@@@ ton of a run-around if I ever *need* it, I'd likely just go purchase a replacement myself. Again, thankfully never had an issue in many many years with any of my devices, so hopefully the same applies this go around.

Plus as others have said, I think my credit card offers some level of coverage, so who knows.

Just purchased AC+ over the phone. Is there anywhere I can go on the apple website to see that it's been added? I got a confusing email from them and really no confirmation as far as total cost etc.

Now that i'm on the annual upgrade payment plan path (And Apple raised their prices) then its Squaretrade.

Squaretrade:
+ Higher Prorated refund for unused 2nd year (50% back vs AC+ which gives much less)
+ $89 ($3.75/mo) Family Rate for doing 2 phones (http://www.squaretrade.com/family-plans)
+ Same Apple Genius Support (IF phone needs replacement they reimburse)

I'm still going to do AC+ for iPads so I can get that 2nd year Genius Support (which mainly consists of Burnt Lightning Cable Replacement). But for iPhones that I don't plan on owning past year one then I'll save money where I can.

I'm unsure, too. I was seriously thinking about SquareTrade, but two things made me hesistate:

a) If I get AC+, I'll have access anytime to chat with AppleCare online.
b) My cord tends to become frayed easily - I can just walk in and swap a cord using AC+. I don't think it'd be as easy with SquareTrade, unless I'm wrong?

Does anyone have experience with SquareTrade? What's the claims process like? Do I just go to the Apple store and get the repair/replacement then file a claim and get my money back, minus the deductible? Would my cord be covered?

Do the math.

Applecare+ is $129 and $99 per occurrence on the S line. 1 break you're out $228.

No insurance- $129 6S $149 for the 6S+ out of warranty charge to replace the screen.

Even after 2 breaks you're STILL cheaper paying out of warranty on both models- $327 vs $258/$298

I dont see Applecare+ as a good deal personally.

Geek Squad Protection is no longer offered at Best Buy for iPhones. We now sell Apple Care+ for ALL iPhones and iPads.

My insurance for my wife's phone is a great Otterbox. Once a phone has a great case on it, I feel like the insurance is overkill and costly. I don't mind a good case.

They will do the screen replacement only if there are no other damages to the device. If you drop the phone, chances are it gets dented too and will likely require a whole device replacement.

The only insurance I would consider would be one that covers loss or theft. And since the deductible on that is unreasonably high,
IMO, I'm happy to just go without.

I think this is a case by case basis. I've known people with small cents get their screen replaced. I would imagine that a device that is physically warped in a way that replacing the screen would still put undue stress in the new screen would not get replaced. Minor dings and dents are not a problem. Unfortunately it's not uncommon for a screen to shatter or
Crack, even with a case on, and the shell of the phone remain completely unscathed either.

Still only risking paying $299 6S or $329 6S+ out of warranty swap vs. $228. $70-100 difference really IF you maybe possibly damage the phone beyond repair which the odds are low on a regular drop with the stronger aluminum.

I'll take that risk on $70 more to save $129 as it's a very big maybe you would even need to use it. If insurance plans didn't make tons of money they wouldn't offer it to begin with; since probably a HUGE portion of people (way way over 50%) never use it but pay the $129.

I've used AC+ and Squaretrade both over the years. Both work well in my opinion. This time around both of the new 6s phones got AC+ at the time of purchase mostly for the simplistic way it works.
Squaretrade is good too, just not quite as user friendly. They sent a replacement or you pay and the reimburse you afterwards. Not a huge deal.
The others I have no experience with.

So let's say 6 months from now, I drop my iPhone and shatter the screen and dent the sides to where I have to have the phone replaced, they will only charge $299 and hand me another iPhone 6S?

60 days from date of purchase is the cutoff. Sometimes we can cut you slack if it's a day or two past that but not always. That is the Apple official policy.

As for how AC+ works. You pay the $79 service fee and we mail you a box you mail your device in and we either repair it OR swap it with a REFURBISHED (can't stress this enough) device. if you pay an additional $29+tax we can do Express Replacement Service. We place a hold on your CC for the full replacement value of a device and ship it to you. Once you get the replacement you put your broken device in the box and ship it back to us (shipping is prepaid) once we receive your device in the mail we remove the hold on the CC. What you're left paying is the $79 service fee for accidental damage + the $29 ERS fee

Yes. This is why Apple care is so baffling to me. You basically have to plan to trash your phone twice to even get your money's worth lol.

Yes. If you just crack the glass it's only $129/$149 (plus) vs. $129+99 on Applecare+

It's VERY hard to dent the aluminum, especially the stronger 7000 series this year, to the point they can't fix the glass without swapping it out though. Watch the drop tests on youtube- from a "normal" drop the glass cracks before any aluminium is dented.

the swapout thing was bigger when the phone back was glass too and both sides broke in a drop.

How do you figure that? $169 CDN or $129 US for the 6S and 6S plus models or $99 for 6 or 6plus and earlier. Even using one accidental damage instance at $99 for the 6S or 6S plus or $79 for earlier models is way cheaper than buying a new device. Your logic is flawed

I'm not talking about buying a new device. You never have to buy a new device. Your first screen repair is at about break even cost. A full phone replacement is $300 Hence my statement about completely trashing the phone. My first full phone replacement is less than twice what I would be out on an Apple care swap. As was said by someone before me, you basically have to plan on screwing your phone big time for things have any value. Apples out of warranty service is just THAT GOOD.

I feel the same way. Basically with the insurance you are prepaying for damage you may never cause. With in store screen repair and out of warranty swaps, AC+ never made sense to me. And with the higher cost and deductible, it makes less sense to me.

It's $129 for the plan PLUS $99 each time you break it. So your first screen break cost you $228

If all you did was break the screen, the most likely damage of all, anyone can walk in the Applestore and get out of warranty screen repair is $129 on the 6S and $149 on the 6S+.

At 2 screen breaks (HIGHLY unlikely to get 2) Applecare+ cost is $327. Walk-in is $258 (6S, $129x2) and $298 (6S+, $149x2). You still lose with Applecare+ even breaking the screen twice.

The ONLY way you win with Applecare+ is if your phone is catastrophically damaged (ie. run over by a car not just a drop). Applecare+ swaps the phone for $228, while no warranty swap for a 6S is $299 and 6s+ is $329.

The price increase made it really not worth having this year. It's cheaper to pay out of warranty for a screen break by far. If I break my screen I'm out $129, to someone who got Applecare+ they're price is $228; $100 more for a screen break.
