Discover has my phone protected for 90 days. Thinking of still buying AppleCare after the next couple of paychecks since I was the most unlucky man in the world with my 6. I dropped and shattered that little trooper a lot. Went through about 3 different screen replacements...

Didn't buy a new phone this year, but I'm relying on a combination of Wells Fargo cell phone protection to cover damage and theft up to $600 (you get it by just paying the phone bill using one of their credit cards), plus using a credit card with warranty extension to purchase the phone itself. Good enough for me, no need to pay for insurance or warranty. :)

Did you guys know about paying for Apple care monthly through Best Buy?

It's 8 bucks a month

If you are on ATT next and upgrade your phone every single year it actually is the best way to go. You can cancel it any time. So for 12 months of apple care you pay 96 bucks which is cheaper than the regular 129 and it's not like the Apple care transfers over to your new phone.

If you plan to have your phone for a long time it's not worth it. But absolutely worth it if you only keep your phone for a year. That's what I'm doing.

Still not worth it. Of course, I'm a big believer in self-insurance for the small stuff and only insuring for the big stuff (medical, auto/liability, home, etc).

Well this thread is here for people who are purchasing insurance for the phone so it is absolutely worth it to people who buy these things. I don't even understand why you're in this thread lmao

My home+contents insurance covers my phone against theft or accidental damage, but with a $300 excess which means it is not worth making a claim unless it is stolen outright or totally destroyed (especially given that a claim will bump up my premium for next year).

Australian consumer protection law covers it for manufacturing defects and battery failure for two years, and so does the extended warranty that I have because I paid for it on a premium credit card.

But even so, for the first time, I have invested in AppleCare+ this time. Two reasons: 1) While third-party repairs usually work out cheaper than the cost of AppleCare+ plus the replacement fee, it may take the third party phone repair places a while to catch up with the 3D touch screens; 2) I'm using an Apple-branded case this time, instead of a more protective case. And I WILL drop it. I'm clumsy.

This is my 4th iPhone and never had insurance and never needed it. A week after the 6s preorder my 5s stopped worked, turns out it's the motherboard. Unfortunately I need to get it fixed in order to give it back to Verizon since I'm still under contract with the 5s. I just found out that I'll have to pay the out off warranty cost of $269 which is completely reasonable. Before I found out about Apples OOW cost I was going to get AppleCare + on my 6s, but it just doesn't make since any longer. I usually keep my phone in an Otterbox and the only reason my last iPhone stopped working was because of my toddler constantly throwing the phone down the stairs and it being in a non Otterbox case. I've never even had a cracked or broken screen and I drop my phones a lot. To me spending $129 + $99/accident isn't worth the slight chance my phone will break, especially with the OOW repair/replacement. I got an Otterbox and I keep my 6s out of reach of my toddler.

I've always used applecare.
4s: Dropped, shattered. They were nice enough to give me a replacement with no additional fee.
5: Had charging issues which turned out to be my fault for allowing the port to get very dirty/ damaged. There was, however, another minor problem with my phone (I don't even remember what it was exactly). The genius used the issue to replace it under the extended warranty with no extra fee.
6S: I had planned to quit while I was ahead and skip the insurance this time. But, I've reconsidered and will work a couple overtime hours that I wouldn't have otherwise to cover the extra expense.

I kind of feel like a sucker every time I buy insurance for electronics, but I think I've at least broken even over the years and it gives me some peace of mind.

Apple Care+ for me. On the unfortunate chance it gets stole I'll just use my home insurance which covers it anyway. It's also cheaper over two years than my carrier offer, so also worth it.

I don't know about you, but my homeowner's policy has a high deductible, and a phone isn't worth filing a claim.

Agreed, and living in hurricane alley we do not make charges against our homeowner policy without thinking about it first! We are paying extra high premiums due to hurricanes and we have not had one in years. Seems a rebate is in order!:)

How many plan to keep the phone beyond iPhone 7? I dont, and I can't see the advantage of AC+ in this instance.
I am covered bumper to bumper for 1 year with standard warranty. I could add squaretrade for $99 vs. $129.

I always invest in AppleCare, I believe carrier insurance is a scam (having previously worked for a carrier) and I always get great results from AppleCare if something goes wrong.

I'm planning on only investing in S-models going forward so insurance is a big deal for me.

This is what I buy apple care for. Not the accidents, but if the phone dies in the second year. There is no fee to have it replaced, so it's only the same $99 initial fee. I've had this happen twice. Also, the free battery replacement is nice, and saves you $79.

Are you sure about that no fee to have it replaced? That doesn't sound right. If that's true wouldn't people just go that route instead of paying the $99/accident fee to get it fixed?

If it dies due to no fault of your own, like the mother board dieing, then there is no fee. My iPhone 3GS died once and the cellular radios never worked again, and they swapped it in its second year no questions asked and no fee. My 5s needed a new battery, and they discovered something else wrong with it on their tests, and at 23 months old I walked out with a perfect 5s, in exchange for my scratched up old 5s. I have also brought back a damaged charging cable and got it replaced. The peace of mind the initial fee brings is well worth it in my opinion.

I gotta say. It feels pretty freeing walking around naked knowing I have AC+ in my pocket.

The screen is crisp and smooth, the phone is light and beautiful, and I love using the phone the way it was meant to be used.

First time with AC+ and won't be my last.

Has Squaretrade always had a "three replacement" limit...?

With the cost of the 6S OOW replacement at $299, you'll only get 2 with the coverage limit being the amount you paid for your phone.
