Ah yes, the annual MR IQ test thread, where miraculously everyone is smarter than Einstein.

Anyone with any semblance of actual intelligence knows that IQ tests are meaningless.

Better not to know

It's better not to know what your IQ is.

The sum of a person's worth and potential are much more than the IQ level. There are many factors to consider: ethics, creativity, spirituality, determination, ambition, physical abilities, co-ordination, social skills ......

If you take the test and your score comes in lower than you expect it does not mean that you are a lesser person.

Many people with genius level IQ's do not use their intelligence to their potential and many people with low IQ's exceed their intellectual potential.

My IQ is somewhere north of 140. It is not possible to get a good read on mine because of my delexia but they can find find out that is going to be north of some number and it was 140 over 20 years ago and it is safe to say it would fair bit higher now.

I'm the same, also dyslexic and have scored between 137 and 142 depending on the test. My old boss was very into testing. We all ran IQ, Belbin and Myers Briggs tests.

My dyslexia often muddies things but on tests and especially practical assignments usually do ok.

However, imo IQ means f-all in reality. I ran a team of web developers with some really intelligent people but practically they had no original thought, failed to solve simple problems and couldn't apply practical knowledge in the right areas.

The other tests like Belbin and Myers Briggs i find carry much more weight.

Wow. This thread got revived quick.

I've observed over the years that people with high IQs aren't all that smart.

No, not kidding.

I think it depends on your definition of smart, or rather, your definition of intelligence. Is it creativity? Problem solving? "Book smarts"? The field of work also matters -- you can be smart in one area but lacking in another (which is 99% of the population). I can say that in my field (chemistry/pharma), those with higher IQ's correlate well to being more intelligent both in lab and on paper, but typically suffer more on the social side. Keep in mind that's correlation though, and the social shortcomings don't apply to everyone, of course.

I'm certainly enraged.

:p
Since you're the psych, what's your preferred method of intelligence labeling? The G factor?

Over the past few years I've had many IQ tests--I was in a very bad car accident and IQ tests were part of the many, many psychological tests for psychological trauma, aptitude, job retraining, re-education, etc. My wife made me promise that I wouldn't tell anyone what my number is but I can say that I'm higher than the 99th percentile.

I was one of those kids who, according to my report cards, "is not meeting his potential" :(

However, my wife just loves watching Big Bang Theory together--she gets a double dose of humour when she identifies me with the situations :D

You dug up this thread to tell folks you have a genius IQ?

Perhaps the large IQ is compensating for a tiny something else... ;)

Nope, I was actually just googling around,a and saw that it wasn't too old, I didn't know anyone would comment tbh. lol.

Min testede att 74 but i cann ran a Mac. Gues that is yi Mac is good. :)

I laughed, then I was insulted.

I was one of those kids who, according to my report cards, "is not meeting his potential" :(

Been there, done that, but with a tad less than you are gifted with.

I think instead of debating IQ, I think we should debate what the hell that has to do with anything in real life.

It's just a measure of potential, not performance. ;)

I think this poll is quite telling...Apple-Cusomers think of themselves as not being the Average Joe, which is quite middleclass-thinking in itself.

I'm in the 125 neighborhood - given my last test. Not sure how accurate that is but regardless of what my IQ number is, I strive to improve myself and always consider there are smarter people around me, so I need to work at improving myself.

I assume you have been classed as quite boring right? By the simpletons, you know ;)

I actually agree that IQ means nothing (unless it's way off the charts) in real life situations, but if someone with average or below average IQ says it then it looks like jealousy. Which I don't really get, to be honest. IQ is just a component of many.

I originally posted after doing a test with a phycologist.

I kept some interest and decided to read more regarding the topic. I ended buying "The Bell Curve", which is supposedly the most important and most controversial book regarding intelligence and the part it plays in life.

They conclude that intelligence is the most important characteristic that determines how successful you'll be in your life. They do offer quite a lot charts and studies citations, tho I'm interested in reading a more actualized book regarding the same topic.

I fail to see the point of this poll - is this some kind of social experiment?

Not really, I was just curious of the IQ within MacRumor members. It seems we are ridiculously intelligent!:p

Maybe that's the reason why we're here. Gathered in peace and harmony around a bonfire called 'Macrumors'.

imma say mine isn't very high cos i keep looking in here to find something interesting but never do...

fool me once....
