The point was those things are more expensive for the manufacturer to include in a phone then not. So charging more for a device that has less regardless of whether you'll use them or not would make anyone that has half a brain question overall value. There comes a time when even the biggest Apple fan will start to question what they are getting vs pure profit (what they are paying for and not getting).

This was all based around the idea (albeit fictional) of Apple raising the base price of an iPhone that I was quoting.

All of these conversations are fictional because the general public knows virtually nothing about the iPhone 6.

edit: Also apple could raise the price of the phone, because it thinks it can. However, I would think that raising the price of the base phone above what everybody seems to think of as the baseline, would not be a good business practice...even for apple.

You don't want to pay. That's the key phrase, and the entire reason you started a thread to whine about it.

Would you say the same thing if five years from now Apple still had 16 as their base? Would you be whining if at that point you also start to question why they do not up it? At what point? Every one of has a point of time when they will think Apple should up it. It is pretty much rediculous to belittle that guy for him having reached that point at an earlier point in time than you.

Are you consistent in thinking that no one should desire processor upgrades, larger battery capacity, better screens? I mean I suppose that to you this would be them whining as well. Everyone should be content with current models. Forever.

The better thing to do would be to offer the 16gb at $100 and the 32gb at $200 etc. Not everyone needs 32gb. This will not happen. Apple has absolutely zero reason to lower the iPhone price.

But the thing is that the 16GB difference doesn't cost $100, this would be very inconvenient for Apple.

I don't think it would be a wise idea for Apple to increase the price on the phone just by including things other manufactures already have without a price increase. The HTC M7 for example had a higher resolution, larger screen with a standard for 32gb storage.

Apples prices may become a focal point if they increased them. Then a lot of people would start comparing price more then they already do and start questioning. Lower res screen, still smaller size screen, no NFC, no stereo speakers, relatively small battery, , no wireless charging, no dual antennas for CDMA carriers or SVDO, half the RAM, etc etc all for MORE money. Probably something Apple doesn't need to do.

I see your point. Apple need to get over their thin obsession. After my iPhone 5 is out of contract I'm just going on pay and go indefinitely and then seeing what options I have in the future. I need better battery life, I need more storage. I don't care if that's at the expense of a few g in weight or mm of thickness.

Would love to have less than 16 gb. Streaming everything today and avoid all those lame apps. Have very few, but great apps.

I think there are some people out there who are perfectly fine with 16 GB. My boyfriend is one of them, I am not! Streaming services have helped a lot but I tend to need more local storage.

I like Android devices because they give you the option to put a micro SD card into your device so you aren't stuck with the internal storage of the device you bought.

However one thing I do like about Apple is that you can buy whatever storage capacity you want with ease. With Android devices its hard to get anything more than the base model which is usually 16GB.

Yep. I have everything in the cloud and really do not see the need for local storage today. It is also true for my macbook. Local storage can never be a backup (fire, water damage e.c.) and I won't spend time to transfer stuff to new devices in the future. I just log onto my cloud. I empty photos to the cloud as well. I can go see them there on every platform and in my country, 3G, 4G or wifi plus bandwidth is never a problem. I use dropbox purely for photos as upload is incremental there. For everything else, Google Drive. No way I will ever bother loading things onto every new device anymore. Give me 8 gigs on iPhone and I could not care less. And I was one with 60 GB iTunes library, 30 gigs photos local and so on. Heavy user. Movies? Streaming or rent everytime. They can be seen offline as well.

exactly. But some people expect apple to inconvenience itself by offering the 32gb at the price of the 16gb. Apple will only do this when the market demands it.

I don't see Apple getting rid of the 16GB iPhone anytime soon. Take the iPad for example, they kept the 16GB even after they added the 128GB option.

There are problems with your solution though.
Firstly, you need a strong LTE/WiFi signal at all times. Secondly, if using LTE, you need an expensive data package. Thirdly, you need to pay for increased Cloud storage space...or use several different providers to take advantage of their freebie allocations. This can be inconvenient. Finally, you run into issues of privacy by uploading your documents/photos/videos/etc to Cloud storage space. You lose control over it and have no idea who has access to it.

Kinda tough getting an LTE signal at 35,000 feet.

This has nothing to do with iphone/apple and everything to do with management of your digital assets in the cloud.

OMG. Major airlines now have inflight Wi-Fi. Check out GoGo inflight Wi-Fi. Step into the 21st century.

Off topic note. GoGo sucks and is only offered in the US and maybe Canada or something.

Used it for a while and found it useless of streaming video. Using local storage is still my preferred method when flying. However even at 16gb I can load enough content to keep me entertained on a flight but it does require some planning ahead.

Gogo even says it doesn't support streaming video, so I have no qualms about that aspect of it.

It's useful for browsing, though.

I have had a bunch of flights with wifi and I have to say I subscribe to it. My ipad goes the distance and it's fun and a way to keep your mind off the boredom of a flight.

Yes I know..... but why do I need to pay for that when I can d/l iTunes to my device? And I can tell you inflight wifi doesn't work all the time especially video streaming.

Then, buy a mobile Wi-Fi media drive. Some are multi-functional and let you emergency charge as well as share with other devices.

Data packages can be dirt cheap outside of the US/Canada.. I regularly use more than 100/150gb a month for just £15 (includes 300 minutes and 3000 texts). And that £15 isn't something I have to pay if I don't want to..there is no contract, agreement or plan...some months I don't bother, but it's still free to receive calls or texts

I could quite happily live with an 8gb iPhone since I barely use half of my 16gb as it is. Who needs/wants local storage anymore when fast streaming is ubiquitous and almost-free?

Exactly. I have unlimited text/mms and call plus 12 GB data for like 20 bucks. I have wifi everywhere I go as well when indoors. Give me 8 GB iPhone I dont care. This is 2014. Outside US it is no problem. I get like 30 Mbps LTE speed average where I go.

I'd love it if Apple introduced an 8gb model of the iPhone 6 for less money than 16/32gb.

I'd buy it and be happy.
