From saurik himself:

This unreleased version of Cydia has nothing to do with iOS 5. Users should not install random updates from apt.saurik.com that are not actually released to the index unless they have specific problems they are trying to solve with a released version.

New versions of Cydia are often posted like this to prepare for new platform features related to jailbreaks, like the unionfs work that comex has been documenting recently: these changes are largely untested and users upgrading to version 1.1.2 of Cydia without an explicit recommendation to do so are doing so at their own peril.

The reason that these files are placed in public is in order to make it simpler for the mechanisms of testing things, so version numbers do not need to be changed later in the process. However, that was obviously a mistake: people now scour this server looking for "updates" and then publish articles about "releases", which is ludicrous.

Posted here.

Sooo, Cydia 1.1.2 was released today by Saurik...I'm gonna go ahead and take that as the reason why the bootstrap release is taking a while....

*Edit: Caught this on another forum as well:

"This /purposely-unreleased/ version of Cydia has only one major change in it (and four tiny things, only one of which is user-visible: the keyboard thing under Search): a modification to “stashing” (the step where your filesystem is rearranged during the initial jailbreak process) made for comex, who recently has been talking about his new platform for handling these things.

This change has not been tested on devices that are already jailbroken (well, I did a cursory test for 2 minutes, but that was all), and users upgrading to this version of Cydia do so at their own peril: Cydia might end up in a “permanent re-stash” loop, or force a stash when the user has purposely previously tricked the mechanism not to (leading to a corrupted filesystem).
"

Might be good news.

So that was the reason for the delay of the bootstrap.? So I wonder since this issue has been resolved if this means the jailbreak release is imminent?

Patience

Also worth noting is that it seems they are still testing 1.1.2 (no official release yet), so the wait will continue until that is considered release-able.

Yet another update from Saurik himself. (Thanks farme for the previous link!)

"So, this build has only five changes: some improvements to error message handling (well tested), a change to the keyboard for the Search panel (I have not even tried this, nor have I looked at the code for it: chpwn made the change, and only tested it on his firmware revision, AFAIK), some modifications to localization (a couple wording changes in Chinese, in particular), a fix for a memory leak in the web browser (that leaks memory so slowly you will never notice unless you are me, but for what it is worth this is well tested), and:

...a drastic modification to the mechanism for "stashing" (where all of your files are rearranged directly after a jailbreak), a change I made a day and a half ago and tested for two minutes. I put this change into a build for comex, who recently made comments about an improved platform for installing jailbreak filesystem changes. I spent a bunch of time thinking about how these changes could go in and not break any existing installations, but I cannot test these corner cases well and so far no one other than me (for two minutes) has tested "1.1.2" on an "already jailbroken device": all testing has been "during a jailbreak install".

This version, therefore, was likely never going to hit the index as a general update for users as a "release": if I were going to do that, I'd make certain the iOS 5 fixes were in first (there were some irritating changes to the web browser on iOS 5 that make things like Cydia's custom User-Agent header not work: this bug is pretty critical for iOS 5 support, and has not been examined yet)."

"during a jailbreak install" sounds like he might have been testing this on the new jailbreak maybe? let's hope!

See I wasn't lying comex has unionfs support finished and in his jailbreak like I posted yesterday, and also posted yesterday comex's notes to testers telling them that cydia isn't displaying correctly after jailbreak on the iPad 2. To fix it restart the iPad. I have shown proof I am not lying to someone else on this forum too.

Also the fact that he mentioned Comex by name is a good sign. The only jailbreak that Comex is working on is the iPad 2 jailbreak so this indeed could be VERY good news!! That is why the bootstrap took so long because Saurik had to fix some stuff

Thanks for the update, everyone. I have actually learned how to have patience while waiting for this, which is really big for me.

I would love for it to come out tonight, but I would say with all the news we have been hearing it will be here within a week though. Cydia update for comex update and for a new type of initial cydia install, new teaser, verified unionfs from new cydia.

meh, I have a jailbroken i4 to get me by!

My i4 is jb too, but I mostly use my iPad now, so I am anxious.

There's several tweets with a #JailbreakMe hashtag that are saying either jb in 1 hour or 3 hours with some most likely bogus link

Yeah I saw those tweets but I think they are just from random people talking out of their butts..no one has any idea if the jailbreak will be released today..but if it does I am gonna do a cartwheel :)

Well something must be up since Saurik is telling people NOT to update their Cydia and that its for jailbreak purposes so something is going on..if this was just some random Cydia update everyone would be able to update already..so hopefully crossing fingers and toes this jailbreak is FINALLY going to be released, and hopefully tonight too..so far nothing from Comex and he hasnt even mentioned the jailbreak in days

I think I have always jb on a Sunday Funday. How rare is it to have a jb release on a different day?

Oh well, but when it comes here is to the fastest jailbreak on the fastest iOS device.

For those who don't already know, those are signature keys for a source code repository, one for each time he commits a change along with the log comment. It's likely GIT.

For those who already knew this, sorry I'm late to the party, been busy the last day. :)
