Added wishes (i included them in the original list)

Maybe everyone should add their wishes to this list (so to keep it all together and easily viewable) and then repost it (and in the end send it to Apple? ;) )

I've added my wishes to blaklaybul's original list:

Finder
• the ability to resize finder sidebar icons + text!
• Fix the problem when unmounting DMG's and hard drives it remains mounted.
• Remember Finder window sizes and layout.
• Always show last column in full width according to widest text
(in column view)
• Better networking, the new sidebar system is a little weird.
• When you click on a Folder, link, stack or whatever, then click again without moving the cursor, Leopard ignores that input until you move the cursor over it again.
• Add an option to disable "this application was downloaded from the internet.
• New folder icons, they’re badly designed and unreadable

Dock, Menu, Dashboard, Expose, Spaces and Animations
• smoother dock magnification, expose, dashboard, spaces, etc.
• Smoother animations all round (stacks, expose etc)
• Customizable Dock
• bring back hierarchal view of the dock
• Movies playing when minimised to dock (broken in Leopard)
• Stacks behaving as they were shown before Leopard launch
• Dashboard becoming completely non-functional after Parental controls are activated, even if it's later
switched off
• clean up any blue highlights buttons, etc to look sharp instead of fuzzy (ie blue indicator balls on dock
or the repeat indicator buttons in itunes) why the color blue has to be so fuzzy on a mac is beyond me.
• consistent scrollbars (glossy or matte) or allow the user to choose the look he desires (much like
graphite vs. blue color scheme)
• customizable menu bar to change the opacity and shade of grey
• Fix the spaces quirks. Once clicking on open app icons in the dock wouldn't switch, so I had to restart the dock.
• allow the dock and desktop to vary across spaces
• allow new thread of a program to instantiate within a current space
• Cursor looks pixelated when enlarged in Universal Access

Apps

• A fix for random Mail.app crashes
• Sort out the Mail errors when internet connection is slow.
• smtp server problems with mail.
• Bluetooth and SMS support back in Address Book.
• AirTunes back in Front Row.
• Sort out the Front Row pauses and stutters.
• Include more supported video formats within Front Row and QuickTime.
• Remote Artwork in Front Row
• fix crashes for iLife ’08 programs
• fix the memory hogging of iChat when using audio or video
• improve Safari pop-up blocker
• Fix iCal not matching international 24 hour clock setting in agenda (can only show AM and PM while system is set to international 24 hour clock)
• Adding an iCal event should not take 3 mouseclicks
• Fix Mail with stationary enabled to be able to send attachments!

Time Machine
• fix really slow Time Machine backups
• more prefs for time machine, maybe allow specific times for backups? maybe a 'backup now' button.
• Reading / Writing ability for Time Machine

Bugs

• bug fixes for random application freezes. Namely, Dictionary and Safari.
• Sort out the long shutdowns that a lot of people experience.
• a bug fix for the Macbook and Macbook Pro Keyboard lock up problems and Airport issues
• MBP display backlight issue
• fix sound output issue on Powerbooks
• Better Airport Disk support.
• Parental Controls Kill Dashboard

Performance
• Improve performance of Leopard overall - can be sluggish at times.
• Improve the firewall within Leopard - lacks things Tiger had.
• The so forth mentioned features that were said to allow faster booting between windows and OS X.
• HP printer drivers that actually work and that also give full functionality to choose color vs black and
white prints and also draft vs excellent quality, etc (especially for older printers)
• Disk Utility - needs to be fixed so it doesn't take a year and a day to either update or repair permissions, only to spit out cryptic errors about why some permissions weren't fixed.
• Increase battery life for notebooks
• Bring back firewall UI similar to Tiger
• Improved video drivers
• 802.1x fix

This is a great list, but I'm afraid it's bound for disappointment. No way Jose is it going to be implemented in any point release of 10.5.x. Some of these things require a complete reworking, like f.ex. the way stacks operate. The point releases since Jaguar have pretty much been bug fixes and not much more.

In fact, if you want to be somewhat pessimistic, I'm not even sure some of these issues will even be addressed by 10.6 - whatever comes after Leopard.

Look how slow and disappointing the development of Finder has been - despite years of strenuous complaints by users, Finder is pretty much the same as before with very minor changes.

Frankly, I think this release (Leopard) has been the most disappointing release from Apple since the original Cheetah of OS X. For the first time, they have actually removed functionality (you can't deeply navigate folders in the dock), and seriously degraded the UI (compared to Tiger).

So yeah, Leopard stinks, and I'm not optimistic going forward, what with all their efforts going into the iPhone. I wish I were wrong, but that's how I see it.

Your wait is over, 10.5.2 can be downloaded here:

http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/n...60&platform=osx&method=sa/MacOSXUpd10.5.2.dmg

Unfortunately, it looks like they've only addressed half of your requested features.

Now, that you've clicked the link, it's safe to tell you that it won't work just yet. We'll have to wait for the official announcement when Apple finally posts the download at that address ;)

In the mean time, keep the link handy. It is currently redirected to the 10.5.1 version. But, when 10.5.2 comes out, the link should work for downloading 10.5.2.

Just for fun, try it daily. If Apple slips, maybe you'll get 10.5.2 before everyone else :D

In the list there is a request for a "Back up now" button.

Timemachines has such a button - just CTRL-click TimeMachine in the Dock and the option will show up.

Screenshot (german, its the second option "Backup jetzt erstellen"):

I was going to make a list of the things that I wanted fixed but found almost all of them were posted on the original post :D

The things I didn't see (might have missed them):

iTunes window goes white randomly after hiding it, only solution is to click the iTunes icon in the dock.
Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7FyEXD2TYI

Dictionary is very slow when attempting to search for something.

Aperture needs to be fixed! It crashes a lot nowadays!
Graphics need to be fixed! They are so sluggish!
Desktop icons get scrambled all over the place after restarts.
Apple hurry up please!

I wish I had something new to add, but at the same time, I'm glad I don't have something new to add.
I, too, would like to see:
* Faster start-up times (my MBP and my PB running 10.3.9 are the same speed)

* Part 2 of faster start-up - I haven't seen icons on the desktop changing from default program icons to the "image icons" since Windows 98. Tiger never did this and, if it did, it was too fast to actually notice.

* Faster shut-down times - It seems that my MBP sits for an extra moment before turning completely off, with the "sleep light" in front really dimly lit.

* Fix the dock - Yes, I want the full menus back in ADDITION to what it has now.

* Fix the speed - just feels a bit slower than its Tiger counterpart.

* Fix sharing - stuff diappears from the side bar and never comes back.

Not upgrading my G5 until these are resolved.

Glad I could preach to the choir. :/

this macbook keyboard freezing issue has been bugging my computer VERY often these past couple of days. My keyboard is rendered useless for about a minute every 10 minutes.

This is very irritating.

I suspect it will come out mid to late January with new hardware.

With the absolute mess that Leopard is, I hope .2 is the biggest patch in Apple's history. But given the time lapse since launch and the holidays, I suspect it will be .4 or .5 before Leopard is respectable.

I just hope Apple gives some thought to usability problems with Spaces, Tasks in mail, etc., and not wait until 10.6 to make those changes.

Leopard really is a crying shame. Some great new features were either poorly implemented (Spaces, Tasks, etc.) or just flat-out don't work (Back to Mac), with so, so many bugs, it really has taken away from what could have been a fantastic upgrade.

But quality has not been Apple's strong suit of late.

Europe calling can you add "Cover Flow not remembering set user size and slowly gets smaller in height" to Finder's list? i dont know if you guys have noticed this or even know what im talking about but when you have folders set to open in Cover Flow view the height of the Cover Flow window slowly gets smaller until its the default size which is tiny! i hate this!

if Finder's Cover Flow functioned like iTunes' Cover Flow i.e. Cover Flow window does not get smaller over time and it doesnt increase in size when the Finder window is dragged to a larger size, it would be great.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but when the screensaver comes on and you use the Apple Remote to try and remove it, it doesn't...perhaps Apple can sort this

10.5.2 is far, far away. Evidence:

1. Retail OS X pre-installs updated to 10.5.1 this week.
2. "Security updates" released for 10.5.1 -- things that couldn't want for 10.5.2
3. Absolutely no rumors of ADC seeding of 10.5.2 for testing.

10.5.2 by macworld? only if we're lucky.

just want to point out, you can "back up now" with TM. just right click the icon in the dock. you should take that out. but it would still be nice if it could be customized more.

So we have an answer. Apple is seeding 10.5.2 and it will be released at MacWorld in january.

Thankfully, Apple has addressed the keyboard problems in the Macbooks and MBPs with the update that came out today.

Too bad I bought myself an external wireless keyboard yesterday.
