Fear of fears!!! What IF for some ODD reason WWDC comes and goes with only ios and ML previews and some shinanigans. NO Mac updates
What a sad day that would be, only to delay products to late summer for retina ( which likely will only be in notebooks)

I give that scenario a 5% chance. Very unlikely if at all

I will however give 0% chance to a scenario in which only a few / or no imac update because that would be stupid , + Cook said in regards to great products to come 2012 , " were just getting started" I guestimate 1-2 bangs per calendar 2012 quarter. Q1 ipad. Q2 WWDC / imac mbp. Q3 ML and maybe ios music. Q4 iphone 5. Maybe spec bumps but for a june mac release thats unlikely

Cook already said there would be a higher % of revenues coming from Macs this quarter than last. That doesn't happen unless there are new Macs this quarter.

Though only around 20-25% of sales 2011 (if I remember correctly) were DESKTOP computers, which means iMac, Mac Mini, Mac Pro and also Mini and Pro server versions. They could easily pump up their revenues with just laptops, which is what sells with the whole "mobility-hype" right now and Apple becoming affiliated with succesful mobile units.

While true, it doesn't seem like there's enough components out to refresh most of the laptop line. They could do the top-end MBP's if they wanted, but that's about it.

Well one thing that still puzzles me is this third party stock slip + BTO shipping delay

In the past has these things occured over a month prior to refreshes to a mac or would another 4 weeks of this be odd?

so are shipping times/ stock one of the same per end result

Losing the optical drive wouldn't be a deal breaker for me but it would make me invest in a decent external, I use my optical maybe once or twice a week for burning but about 5/6 for reading files of a disk or watching a film - so while I would be a little annoyed I would still consider buying one.

At the moment I am not exactly in a rush to go out and get a new desktop, I am going to hold off on buying a new iMac till the refresh if it's not spectacular I will look at getting a Z1 (or a Mac Pro assuming it get's updated / not cancelled).

It's in the earnings call Q&A.

Well, he didn't say higher sales of iMacs. He said that they would have lower earnings in Q2 due to mix differences. This was interpreted as higher share of iMacs than of iPads and iPhones, simply because they have lower margins on the computers. It is still up in the air if the interpretation is correct or if he referred to other changes in mix.

Here's the exact quote.

Tim Cook said:
Q: Provide a little more context for us on the segments dovetailing with drop in guidance?

A: iPhone expects to have a year-over-year increase and sequential decrease for reasons we discussed. Built channel inventory, existing March in supply/demand balance, and a huge January. For iPad, we would have a significant YoY and sequential increase in sales.

For gross margin guidance, we're pleased to be providing guidance of 41.5% for the quarter, expect 2/3 of the decline to be driven by higher mix of iPads and Macs, full quarter of selling the iPad lineup, and loss of leverage on lower revenue. Remainder of difference between one-time items that occurred in March instead of June.

checked the apple online stores again,

imac is the only one that gets pushed to 2-4 days if you even change to 16GB RAM or anything above the stock 1TB HDD. As far as the other highlighted mac, the Macbook Pro is fine on shipping times no matter what you do. This iMac push has not increased, not let up. So its not a hdd shortage, esp when you add ram and the time bumps too.

This point alone really imo rules out any july august iMac refresh. were looking at next week until wwdc +- plus what another poster posted above regarding Tim Cooks comments citing Mac impact / one time products in june vs march. As far as rumors and such , we "know" or have seen most of what could happen, ivy bridge/ and 7970m almost near certain. anti glare glass likely, wouldn't doubt thinner. -- Retina-, yeah don't think so yet. So there, nothing that exciting should pop up other than sku's and immediate stock drop in the week or 2 ahead.

If anyone from the executive group in Apple ever read these threads, they would be laughing their ass off, then afterwards thinking: "maybe we should take over the world... muhahaha..".

Fingers crossed for a new iMac soon, so i can stop checking rumor sites every few hours, and that playing with my new 2012 iMac:)

Hi, new here. Found the forum whilst searching for iMac info, since I'm going to buy one in the coming weeks.

I read this topic, and thought this might be interesting: a large retailer in Belgium (MediaMarkt, part of the Metro Group also owning the Saturn stores over here) is having the "MacMania" days. From May 9th to May 12th they're offering 10% discount on the whole iMac, Mac Mini and Macbook line, "as long as the stock lasts".
I was interested by that last bit (thinking about what's buzzing), so I asked one of the guys working there what it means if they're sold out, how long it would take 'till their stock would be up again. He checked and said "We're having at least a 2 weeks delay on deliveries for new iMacs." If I asked him it was due to a new model, he did not know.

Could it be?

I'd really like a 2012 iMac in the design of the 2011 model, frankly... so I hope the "radical new design" rumors aren't true. :D

Member of the Mac community soon,
Cheers,

Gilles

I'm ordering one today just so they'll refresh it next week. Been story of my life.

not like it matters or what i say means crap ha, but

i'd like to state that i believe well see an iMac refresh with NO RETINA, before WWDC

Do you think that the 27inch version is really worth the extra money?

I picked up one of the Korean 27" monitors on ebay and ever since I have been wishing I had the 27" imac. It is worth it to me to have the extra resolution. The current gen is plenty fast for my needs but the bump in video cards is really what I'm waiting for.

GPU and hope for higher capacity SSD/bigger screen are my biggest reasons for waiting. The CPU is just a little icing on top.

The only thing I am holding off for is a vaguely sensible SSD option. Since putting SSD in the mac pro I would be loathed to return to none SSD primary drives. I am starting to run out of time though and may well have to take the plunge and buy a current gen soon. That would annoy the cack out of me though.
