How long are we going to be hearing this excuse.
Ask Microsoft or Sony, yeah they are definitely using the excuse to justify low sales.....

Meanwhile, scalpers are able to sell the same console for 3x retail value because nobody wants them.

Point is, there is a HUGE issue supply chain issue, and if you cannot see it.... well it must be very foggy where you live!

I don’t really care too much about the ports, it will be fine either way, I’ll be happy not to have to use SD dongle though. I’m just excited for next gen M chip in 16” chassis. It sounds like the screen could be amazing and the GPU improvement could be huge. I’m pretty excited, I think this will be the best Mac ever and will smoke the competition.

Good luck Apple on your new MacBook Pro models, I will be holding on to my MacBook Pro 16 2019 until it dies and then using my new Windows 11 2021 PC tower with a ASUS motherboard, with Thunderbolt 4, WIFI 6E, 32 GB of memory which I can upgrade, two m.2 SSD cards which I can add three more, 3080 TI card along with a slue of other new technology like optical audio out.

Apple gave up on creating upgradable tower boxes and decided to cater to the ohh I will buy a new $3000 laptop every three years with less function because it looks cool. Along when I need a laptop I can use a $650 Acer Chromebook that give me more than enough functionality for mobile use.

Even as someone who uses SD cards for photo/video work, I would take another USB4 port that I can use for anything over a single-use port any day.

One of the best parts of my previous 15" & 16" MacBook Pros was that I could use any of the ports on each side for absolutely anything.

Kids these days, they think a floppy is a CD-R or a CD-RW for richer folks.
Sure sure, especially for those who happened to lived through the demise of floppy discs and the rise of CD-ROM, HD-DVD’s up and downs, dumping HD-DVD players. But technically those zip discs back then were CD-R for rich folks.

I always see individuals begging for a legacy HDMI port on the new MBP. Just so unnecessary. Just bring your dongle. Or, better still bring an Apple TV. Connect that via HDMI cable to the projector. Then AirPlay your presentation to the AppleTV. This way you can have your shiny, new MBP right in front of you and not be physically connected to the projector.

Funny, the same people whining about an HDMI port are the same people who want MagSafe to prevent their computers from being pulled to the floor. Yet, they are not worried about an HDMI cable being snagged during a presentation and doing the same thing.
BTW - your client's network does not allow you to connect your laptop and AppleTV to their Wifi. Now you need that wired connection again. If only you had not left that dongle in your last clients conference room.

How long are we going to be hearing this excuse.
As long as it takes to get sort out the supply of parts and materials. This is an ongoing issue that still affects device manufacturers like Apple, car companies, and almost all other manufacturers. It takes a long time to restart such a long complex line of production. Just this week, we heard about power outages and flooding in China's manufacturing zones.

"for want of a nail..."

There is literally one dongle that would be needed to in all those use cases.
Find one HDMI dongle that works 100% the same as the HDMI port. There's always some monitor or projector that has issues with it. At work I have to replug mine often. Otherwise I'd be happy for the saved space since it's a rather large port.

Pro is mearly a branding term used by apple to designate their higher end products. Touch some grass.
Yep. Apple seems determined to exhaust the limits of that word.

I agree with you on SD ports, but HDMI is not needed whatsoever. If you are speaking somewhere that doesn't have a USB C cable, then don't bother 😂 get with the times, even my public UNI has replaces all the computers/projectors with USB C displays or at least replaced the HDMI Male to Male cable with a USB C male to HDMI male cable.
Sorry but the laptop is made to serve me and not the other way around.

It's probably going to be the year 2028 by the time your MBP dies. I also wonder what your job is that requires such specs.

wh

y teh hell do we need a HDMI cable ..now in 2022? displayport/stick to usb C so many hubs and ports,..

It used to be more for work projectors, but zoom/teams/hangouts has sort of fixed that.

Now I'd say the major use case is high bandwidth monitors that TB4 can't support yet (HDMI 2.1)

Please no HDMI!!!! no need for that bs. I do want an SD card though, really don't understand how that one was ever removed, was real weird considering camera form factors 🤔
Please explain how having an HDMI port on your laptop would hurt your experience in any way.

Can we also talk about how the headphone 3.5mm port jack on the right side of current macbooks is the WRONG side?

Headphone cable should come out on the left so it doesn't complete with a mouse on the right hand side.

I far prefer MacOS but I do wish we had great PC options like those affordable RAM/storage updates.

A fully maxed out current model 16" MBP goes for $6,700 USD before taxes. If this upcoming MBP is priced about a thousand dollars lower (since there most likely won't be a GPU upgrade option) I'll be a happy camper.

Personally, as a few others have noted, I'd prefer more USB4/TB3/TB4 ports than HDMI/etc.

Why? Because when I need to present, it's *never* just HDMI, it'll sometimes be DisplayPort (better at least), VGA, or even the oddball DVI at times. I carried a bag of dongles for presenting before, and so have most of my clients. More and more places I frequent anyway, are just presenting with Zoom/AirPlay etc anyway.

Also, I don't get the love affair with SD cards, especially as more and more high end cameras are going CFexpress. Me? I haven't even though of where my SD card reader has been since I got a camera that is utilizing a USB-C connection. Why would I bother? Transfers faster than my old reader that way anyway.

People go "dongles are expensive" yeah, and so is adding ports to a laptop. People go "dongles break" and I point out that at least you can replace them easily unlike broken ports in a laptop.

Both have pros and cons mind you, but I find the idea of adding an HDMI port and a SD card reader odd, and frankly kinda sad. Want to add a port? Add ethernet back, make it 2.5Gbps, or better yet a nice 10Gbps port.
