any news if those were successful for Apple? I love the imac but unfortunately I am no longer in the market for it.

It seems like they could capture so much more marketshare with a 32" model. I could never go back to a 24". I think the 24" iMac was a last ditch effort and they're going to sunset the all-in-one.

are you saying the 24inch is too small?
I had 17 inch iMac from 2002 and the screen was huge for everyday tasks. Currently using 13 inch macbook. Maybe things changed in the desktop world!?

It is the iMac Pro option.

The regular iMac 27" was a great value starting at $1799 and discounted for less. While the 24" iMac is a decent value, people who had a 27" 5K really don't want to downsize to 24" or to say a larger 4K display. With the Apple Studio Display (which is excellent) at $1599 adding even a base Mac mini at $599 makes it much more expensive. The other wrinkle is that the 27" iMac you could very easily and inexpensively upgrade the RAM, with the mini you can't do that so that even adds more to the price difference if you need more than 8GB.
Even if they did release another 27” iMac you wouldn’t be able to upgrade the RAM after purchasing. You’d have to choose and pay for the amount of RAM you want at purchase just like all other Macs now.The days of having upgradable RAM are gone.

When they resurrect an iMac “bigger” the relevant specs presented here will probably be it and how a nicely specced one will be priced…

Those wanting a lower price, just work it down from there at Apple prices for RAM & SSD. My best guess at minimum config: “starting at $3499” and that MIGHT be without keyboard and mouse. I suspect config will be M3 or M4 PRO & MAX… but maybe a base silicon model to hit that “starting at…” price or perhaps a little less.

Those dreaming of <$2K should just move on (or go 24") as I strongly suspect the relative “value pricing” ship has sailed. As a long-term iMac 27” user myself, it is abundantly clear to me that that price doesn’t come back even if they would re-use M1 or A14 for it.

I'm so upset with Apple, mostly because having a great display with my iMac 5k 27" I cannot update my computer-too slow for the tasks I'm up to, and use the iMac as a display . What a waste!
Apple quotes the iMac 120$ if I return it.... There is a way to change the iMac into a display only
but it's pretty difficult: iFixit rates the process as for Advanced users
No more iMac for me. I'm going another way.
Apple is very green..only using the word, not with the real facts. 🙄

Sounds like the larger screen iMac is dead to me.

Watch from 13:18 to 16 minutes.

Not enough to go by. In the context of comparing it to a Mac mini with a $1599 Studio Display by the guy on the right, You can get a 24" iMac for less then just the studio display. Its not like most all-in-one fans see any problem with what they bought a couple of year back, as the guy on the left said its fast and he uses his at home all the time. Yes it's very fast on the earliest beta of macOS Sonoma. Latest Ventura version it was very fast also. It also highly transportable if you need to move room to room as everything is wireless except power.

I agree that the 27" iMac screen is incredible; it must be frustrating not to be able to use it any more! One thing you could consider is adding RAM (pretty easy even for a non-techie), and/or using it as a Windows machine? I replaced my work issued desktop with a late 2019 iMac running Windows through bootcamp, works awesome! And it can output to two Studio Displays of equal brightness and clarity, something I couldn't seem to do through any Windows machine that I could find... Good luck!

Mine is 2017. Once I get my new set MacStudio + Refurbished Studio Display I will try the surgery on the iMac
But first I need to see how everything works with Ventura..🫢 and in case it doesn't
I will try to go back to Monterey
I read it's possible , cross fingers that Ventura will be ok in July. I would like to have a smooth transition. Dreaming...

Still no 27" :( I'm going to have to order a mini and a monitor at this rate.
I was originally in the mini + monitor camp, until my last one wasn't supported and the "current" one was over three years old. That's when I moved to the iMac camp -- hesitantly, since I knew the display would far outlive the logic board. That was in 2017.
I think with Mac Studio and Mini now, I think the iMac will become like the iPod.
Looks like I'll be moving back to the mini + monitor solution once this 2017 is no longer supported and unable to keep up. Maybe I'll try to convert my iMac into a 5K external monitor at that point.

Mine is also a 2017 5K. I've put 32GB in it one year ago and it runs Ventura like nobody's business, no stutter whatsoever. I expect it will serve me just fine for another couple of years but if it's starts to have issues I might just upgrade the Fusion Drive to a fast SSD. Or just buy a Thunderbolt SSD and run it from there.

Three years without an update and a discontinuation of the larger size. I think it’s fairly clear at this point that the iMac is the lowest priority Mac. And that’s sad. :(

The 24" iMac was announced April 20, 2021, it became available to order beginning Friday, April 30, on apple.com and in the Apple Store app.

So it has been hardly three years. :D

Depends on the user I think. Mom, for example, used her 27" iMac to the point of death. It now runs intolerably bad even for her, and at this point, the monitor is full of distortions and is failing.
Oh wow, I wonder what happened to her monitor.

That's in contrast to my 2015 27" iMac, which was desupported by new MacOS updates yet had a still perfect, beautiful 5K monitor that went to waste when the system was replaced.

I'd have gladly continued using that monitor with my new Macbook Pro, but there was no way to do so. So it sits in my back room collecting dust.

I think the problem is Apple doesn't see what the target consumer would be for this more expensive iMac. I think most professionals will go with a Mac mini or Mac Studio because it's more customizable and cheaper in the long run. The iMac seems to target a home audience and the price of the 24" is probably hitting an upper limit that people want to pay.

Sure someone would buy it but would those sales numbers be enough to cover costs to design and make it. How many people would spend 2k+ for a 27" iMac?

I've done the Thunderbolt SSD , but it's a pain in the neck in my case
because I need more available ports having all my photos on an external disk as well. It's true that runs fast than the fusion drive- I made a huge mistake going fusion instead of a SSD but at the time but who knew then, at least I didn't and sometime paying a little more is worth it.

Well lots did spend 2K + for a well kitted intel 27" iMac in the past. I see no reason a M2 Pro 27" iMac wouldn't sell like hotcakes if it came out.
You mean when they had no choice if they wanted a powerful desktop Mac? MKBHD and others used to carry iMacs in bags through the airport because they needed a powerful desktop computer but Apple only made the iMac and iMac Pro. Everyone's seen the meme and how silly that looked. Now they Mac Studio exists. If Apple wanted to sell a larger and more powerful iMac they should have never came out with the Mac Studio.

The iMac is a waste. Apple should of designed the iMac with the ability to have the computer part replaced so it can be upgraded. Consideration can be given in design to accommodate the increase in thermal needs for future upgrades.

Kind of late for that given the AS architecture is all tightly integrated and non-upgradeable - we're seeing what this gives with high-end models like the Studio and especially the Mac Pro that cannot handle core component upgrades at all (the later starts at $7k, no less).

And it seems to work for the most part, nobody complains anymore about Apple's all-soldered approach now that it's been made into a unified architecture and strategy - where as some argued in the past that typical users don't upgrade components anyway, now they just don't have that option at all and it's mostly fine (or so it seems).

There is no way apple will abandon the iMac. It’s a huge seller. It’s what a lot of people credit with “saving” Apple from bankruptcy in the late 90’s as well.

I hate it that apple doesn’t update their whole line with each chip change. I’ll agree on that.

This is really not that bad an option.

Buy the best monitor you can. I like the Studio Display for example. Yeah it will be expensive, but then, a few years down the line when your Mini starts feeling slow and crappy, you can upgrade to the latest Mini, or a different Mac, and keep using the same great monitor.

One of my biggest complaints about the iMac was basically "throwing away" a beautiful 5K monitor whenever you upgraded.
While I don’t disagree with that, and as a Mac mini user I will probably keep using the combo Mac mini + external display, there’s something I really fear from Apple’s Studio Display, and I’m open to hear why my fears are unfounded.

As you said, once a good monitor is bought, you don’t need to replace it for many, many years. My current monitor is actually more than 14 years old, and still works pretty well.

However, Apple’s Studio Display has an already outdated A13 SoC inside. What will happen once the A13 becomes no supported by iOS? That could happen in two or three years, as the bare minimum for iOS 17 is an A12.

What if, in 3 or 4 years the monitor ceases to receive iOS updates? Will it keep working fine? Will it lose compatibility with some features or more modern operating systems?

Please, before pushing the red button, take your time to explain me why Apple’s Studio Display is a good long term purchase.
