MacBook Pros are great for those that need the advanced chip. But it is interesting that the iPad Pro today will have what seems to be an equivalent screen to the 2026 MacBook Pro.

Blesseth are those who are not caught in the upgrade rat race

Numbers are nice

Real-world usage is key

Know what you really need your machine for

base model mba 13 m4 for $850 was the right move.. This I am very happy with despite apple's struggle for making any real moves on any category for past several years.

I carry now this little 13 m4 everywhere I go as a just back up... honestly, you can't really do any heavy lifting w/ laptop alone(i dont care which laptop u have).. so just portable machine this mba is perfect for light work or something quick.

We just want a 13” MacBook Air (any M-Chip) with Nano-Textured Display.
All Apple laptops used to have an anti-glare display. I wish nano-texturing came standard on all laptops. I'm thinking about trying out some cheap anti-glare display covers to see if they're any good.

It would have been nice to wait for the M5 but the 2012 MBP was on its way out and I couldn't wait any longer. Not regretting my M4 Max purchase at all, it's a wonderful machine and does everything I need it to do.
I'm still using 2012 MBP with 8GB of RAM and 128GB SSD. I hate the limited RAM and storage, but it still works. The display gets a green tint if I don't use it for a week, though, but it returns to normal after maybe 30-60 minutes of usage.

M5? I’m holding out for M8 as it’s rumored to be better than M4.

In meantime I’ll keep my workflow on my core solo, as upgrading is time consuming and my workflow will be interrupted, can’t afford to spend a couple hours transferring over my workflow.

NB. My workflow consists of scrolling menus testing for lag, copying a video file and rebooting

And back in the Intel days, everyone here complained that there aren’t enough updates.
Fast forward, Apple updates chips every year and people here complain.
The problem is now the staggered release cadence. The M4 Max Studio just came out and in six months we supposedly get the M5 Max in the MBP.

The Studio and MBP are practically the same machines performance-wise (with the same chip). How good of a value is the M4 Max Studio when a few months later you could get the newer chip for the same price?

The Studio wasn’t even expected to get an update till the summer, so they could have just as well waited a bit longer and added an M5 Max. This makes the M3 Ultra Studio an even worse value proposition considering it’s just two M3 Max slapped together. (Yes, I’m aware of the higher configuration options, which is literally the only thing that adds value to the M3. Apple gatekept this on purpose to sell you last year’s chip at this year’s price.)

This is why Apple needs to refresh the whole lineup at the same time with the same series of chips. Otherwise, the value of each machine is questionable or you have to make compromises in terms of form factor, ports, and configuration options to get the best value at a given time. A consolidated release would give the customer the most options and the best value at any given time.

Nothing is stopping Apple from better release management. They’ve done it in the past. This is a problem of their own making.

Star Trek has shown that the M5 will be the killer! 😀
If this chip does not have an internal code name of “Daystrom,” I will be very disappointed.

Also, if the desktop picture/box art for the M5 MBP is not some variation of colored horizontal and vertical lines, I will be even more disappointed:

The annual hardware refresh gravy train, done for year on year profit for people who always upgrade even if they don’t need to. It’s the same with the iPhone.

As someone has already pointed out, the actual gains are only really useful to a very small number of users.

Still with M1 MacBook and M4 mini. Will wait until M6 oder M7 for MacBook upgrade. Hope it will have oled and nano. M1 is still fast enough.

Cant see me updating this year from my M1 Max 14".
Will just wait for the redesign and max it all out again, for another 5 years. I have no complaints at all with this laptop and I use it heavily every single day - simply the best Apple product ever I have used in the last 25 years.

We are at optimum tech on laptops I think.

Expecting only a minor update this year with just a chip change. All the new features will most probably be reserved for the MacBook Pro launching end of next year. Wonder whether Apple will reveal the M5 at WWDC since there were rumors that M5 is in production.

I don't know, but it will be built from the ground up for Apple Intelligence. With features that are light years ahead of anything that has come before. Features that won't actually arrive until M7. M5 Pro will be the most pro chip we've ever made. You're going to love it.

Honestly, who cares they just released the M4s which are highly competent machines. Let’s move onto something new and relevant.

Exactly, there’s nothing to gain from the M5. This obsession for faster processors was relevant 10-20 years ago, but now it’s mostly irrelevant. Software lags years behind, and that’s where the true innovation and speed gains are to be made.

Apple Intelligence is vaporware and can do nothing a simple app can’t do. Who cares it runs on your own device if the only thing it can do is generate stupid emoji. Or summarise a text.

Bring us true innovation that requires new hardware. Otherwise, why bother?

I asked on AppleInsider with no response but do we think the M5 MacBook Pro Max will have a 256 GB memory option?
