Stop using the pandemic as an excuse. Samsung, Huwaei, Oppo and all the competition got their phones out right on time. Apple simply dropped the ball on this and the launch of other products recently, not a good look.

Samsung released the S20 in early March right before the pandemic had became really serious.

And they were having stocking issues in June, likely because of COVID-related supply chain issues.

Same with Oppo, released in early March.

Only someone who’s either woefully unobservant or been living under a rock isn’t aware of all kinds of supply chain issues this year because of COVID..

Yet they were still released on time and were in stock for most people. Actually, the S20 was released a month EARLY during a pandemic. Apple cant even deliver on time. Sad.

Still don't understand why they couldn't introduce them. Surely they have advanced production models for internal testers.

Because there is good chance that it would negatively impact short-term sales (see Osborne effect).

There is still a good number of users who are not deeply familiar with Apple's release cycles and do not closely follow rumors, but who would learn about a new product announcement once it is made. These users could be potentially deterred from buying a phone from the current lineup once a new one is announced that is not available yet. Therefore, the logical thing for Apple to do is to not distract from or devalue the current lineup until shortly before the next-gen phones actually ship.

Also, they may want to keep their options open about which features to potentially deactivate in software, last-minute, or change pricing, last-minute, until they have to commit.

Showing "something" is probably not the issue.

Again, they were released early in the pandemic before supply chain issues became rampant. Remaining willfully ignorant about the effects of the pandemic is what’s sad here. There are all kinds of valid criticisms to levy at Apple, however this isn’t one of them. Like many others, I’ll enjoy my 5.4” iPhone when it arrives next month.

Really? The Note 20 Ultra was released right on time last month (Aug 21st). Apple dropped the ball, its their fault, not suppliers...

And shocker, here we are a month later and Samsung’s website has 512 GB models not shipping until October. I wonder why they could be out of stock? The Galaxy S20 512 GB isn’t just shipping late, it’s not even available, and this is a phone that launched in March.

Clearly Apple is using the extra month to build supply for the expected demand. A lot of good Samsung’s launch did when models are out of stock by weeks.

An iPhone hasn't been released in June since Bush was president. And iPhones have been released in October before and since then.
Bush was not president in 2011 when the 4s release got pushed to fall. All 4 iPhones before that were released in June/July.

I bet nothing till after election.. October is gonna be a 💩 show.

The new phones will be officially released for sure before the outcome of the election.

Apple does not want to lose out on the free marketing thus mindshare harming sales if the entire media is completely swamped by the election circus .

thats not the point.point is many of us iUP customers will be paying past 12 months on last years iPhone and we didn’t join the program to do that. We spend a tOn of money every month. That’s the frustration.

200,000 Americans are dead from Covid-19. Many more have ruined lungs, heart, brain, kidneys, or liver. And you’re complaining about a few extra bucks?

If that’s the worst thing that ever happens to you in your life, you are incredibly lucky. It’s only a phone — and no amount of whining here will make it come sooner.

Anyone on that program should be aware that its a possibility that you have a phone for more than 12 months. This isn't the first time a new phone hasn't launched in September. Just another reason to buy rather than lease.

I was really hoping for usb c like my iPad Pro, higher starting storage and 5g support. Maybe next year will be a better year for it.

How the hell does the apple upgrade program work this year given you can't go into store to register?
