Just pray to god that it's nothing like the M2 MacBook Pro. I don't know why but I just get a feeling that the M2 might have been rushed before it was ready.
You cannot rush a processor before it's ready or you'll be out of the processor business. Whether it's Intel, Qualcomm, Apple, etc. when it comes to a CPU, it either ships or it doesn't. There's no shortcut. You have to push out your tlmeline - you can't bend a timeline the same way you can with software. The denser the chips are, the more prescribed the manufacturing process. That CPU architecture is deliberate and is planned out long in advance. Developing hardware is nothing like developing software/applications.

The M2 is the lowest end of the M2 chips that will be produced, just like the M1 before it.

The MBP is designed to maximize performance, so getting hot is normal operation. if it's designed correctly it will just not shut down.

The Air, is designed differently (obviously).

The M2 MacBook Pro is a higher tier and more expensive model, and it uses single NAND for the base 256GB model. Why would Apple do otherwise for a cheaper MacBook Air model?
I don't even think its that nefarious. Every M1 computer with the same configuration used the same M1 SoC, even the iPads, so its safe to assume that all M2 8/256s will be the same.

People are overreacting to the heat issue. If you are using the M2Air for the kind of work its deigned for I doubt it will over heat, but if you are pushing it like a 14" MBP...well, you should have purchased the 14" MBP. The SSD speed, well that's either Apple being cheap or unable to find a sufficient number of 128GB chips to meet their production goals. Be funny if the M2 Air does have faster SSDs tho.

I guess the high expectations come from M1 air ending up being able to do more things well and very close to MBP M1 performance than people had been expecting, at a quite low price for a mac. And while its natural competition would be i3 models, it is well beyond that and outperforms i5 easily. And the fact that one can do these things on a fanless laptop is completely amazing. Maybe all this makes it easy to forget that there are also limits to what it can reliably do.

Are the reviews available yet?! If so, I beg that someone links to them. I would pay that person in gold.

what its always a day before?
i still think embargo lifts today (Tuesday) or tomorrow Wednesday
It’s simple marketing. The day before means people watch the (almost always) positive review and order the next day because they want the new shiny thing. Lifting 3 days before leaves too much time, so impulse purchases would decrease significantly as they come to their senses.

With modern Apple, it always comes back to money.

so you also think that the M2 MBA reviews will come on Thursday

Thing is since MKBHD’s calendar was shown in one of his videos and it explicitly stated that the embargo lifts on Thursday, that’s our best bet.

But sometimes embargo dates change.

In my opinion, the best review is done by the average consumer who buys the product, uses it for 2 weeks under normal day to day usage and then make an educated decision whether or not said machine meets the need. I don't see how Rene would be able to add anything of real merit past what someone else not on YouTube can do on his or her own.

Maybe I am the exception around here but, I don't need to base my buying decision on Rene or any other YouTube personality or tech site.

You should check out Constant Geekery. It is without a doubt the most sensible (and Non-Youtuber) tech review channel I have ever seen.

No music, no ads, no BS, no inane humor, plus he always provides highly studied and balanced analyses that are always technically substantiated after real-world usage. He also has a successful business and buys all the products he reviews with his own cash, so he's also fairly unbiased.

I'm not sponsored or related to him LOL. I just fully agree with your view of the Tech YouTube space and thought someone who's actually doing it right deserves a shoutout!

Just subscribed. I also like Art Is Right.

Yes.

But you always get internet forum **** posters who insist they must be allowed to run an international data center on a MacBook Air with absolutely no heat at 10,000 GB/s drive speed.

I am thinking that high profile YouTubers and Tech sites most likely have them on hand already and are currently putting review videos together, and they will drop these videos on or right before launch day (or whenever the embargo is lifted).

I don't think big name reviewers receive, review and post new product videos in one (launch) day (although, some of these 'big sites' post very top-line, anemic reviews that probably can be slapped together in one day).

Similarly, I am sure that Apple Stores will have them on hand before launch day (or now), but cannot put them out until launch day.

Great recommendation. After just watching the M2 MBA to 14" MBP comparison, I cancelled my MBA order and went with a 14" MBP which I was able to get on sale. I had been on the fence anyway, but this pushed me over. Super happy with my purchase. Thanks!

I'm honestly not hating with what I'm about to say... but do I really need to bother watching iJustine's review? Seems like everything she reviews is "great, awesome, etc..." Am I wrong?

If you want to really see the product ahead of launch, she does a really good job letting you see the product from a lot of angles you'll never get from other channels, so it's worthwhile for that. Her and MKBHD are both extremely well produced but for very different audiences.
