Sadly, if you want unbiased reviews you have to skip the influencers that are provided with early review units by Apple under conditions and wait for reviewers that buy out of their own pocket or through viewer donations.
well good thing a lot of third party reviewers ordered the MBA M2 and should get it on launch day. I would wait to see those reviews before if you want to buy.

I would of ordered today but wanted to see usual reviews first! Nothing at all! Is that normal or is it a little fishy........
Reviewers don't get special treatment with Apple. All independent reviewers get their devices from Apple at the same time as everyone else.

Only name brand like WSJ and the likes may get them earlier.

poor people lol, base model is $1900AUD here, maybe some people just want basic use. to go to 512gb its another $450
From Apple’s perspective, those are the lower end customer, thus they intentionally neuter the experience. Its within Apple’s satisfaction level.

Why would a cheaper MacBook Air uses more expensive components than the more expensive MacBook Pro? It will be the same, single NAND on 256GB model.

And most reviewers wouldn't be pointing this out because Apple will send them 1TB models. In the end, from Apple's perspective, only poor people who buy base models would be affected, so they don't care.
I also assume that the lowest storage SSD will be slow, but that's what reviews are for, to verify. Also in my experience with reviews, they usually get the lowest storage, not 1TB or more. But in this case, since the lowest is probably slow, they might get one step up to maintain the deception. But reviewers usually do not get the lowest RAM.

When Apple send review units, they tend to send mid to upper tier model, never the baseline model. It's a strategy to create positive impression from the reviewers.

no one even knows that yet, where's your evidence? don't say mbp m2 different product
The M2 MacBook Pro is a higher tier and more expensive model, and it uses single NAND for the base 256GB model. Why would Apple do otherwise for a cheaper MacBook Air model?

unfortunately if you use it like I do, shared with my partner, we have two accounts and if you log them in at the same time then all in a sudden 8gb isn’t enough anymore, a few tabs here and there, word, excel, a few pdf each and it’s swapping like crazy and getting slower and slower.
The only way is to get 16gb and maybe 512gb so you basically have two macs in one.. if it makes sense. But it’s $2499 AUD. A lot!!

you can get a 14" 16/512 for $200 more now, on sale, amazon, good guys, office works

Would it be a better value to get a Refurbished M1 Air 16Gb 256 at $921 direct from Apple with a 10% military discount versus a base M2 8G/256 for $1079? Looking to keep the machine at least 3-4 years.
I had a thread on this and roughly 80% of people said yes 😅

Yet I still wait for m2 reviews lol

Err, that's not even a conspiracy. Ask Leo Laporte. And it's not just Apple, it's every entity. Even the White House is very selective on which journalist they gave access to. It's controlled.

Besides, most tech reviewers today are barely a techie. All they talk about are literally just the same marketing points Apple said in their keynotes. Nobody ever go further deep diving other than maybe Anandtech.
Oh, I am being very tongue in cheek here. It’s long been known that being critical of Apple can get you blacklisted in some way. (No early review devices, for example.)

Especially when Jobs was running the show.

But, it is fun to create the scenario where you could get completely shunned in even lose the ability to BUY even AirPods 🤣

Supply; demand; management; whatever ... the old M1 MBA has wait times that are twice as long as the ones for the new M2 MBA.

Suspect that a lot of people have been put off by the pricing and are holding off ordering until until they are desperate to buy.

Be good if orders are so low against expectations that Apple is forced to rethink its insane base and upgrade prices.

Yup.

I ordered an M1 MBA 15 minutes after watching the M2 announcement. The 500EUR price difference was hugely off-putting.

Just pray to god that it's nothing like the M2 MacBook Pro. I don't know why but I just get a feeling that the M2 might have been rushed before it was ready.
