If Apple doesn't release a new iMac by October, I swear to god I'm going to key Tim Cook's car and air his tires, every day, until he releases them!

But what will you do when you get there and find that its already been keyed and his car is up on blocks?

hey guys ive been noticing in the usa the higher end imac its been out of stock a lot right now best buy doesnt have any neither does amazon.. theyve been out stock before but its been more and more often out stock it seems they are getting very very few of them. I hope i hope this is a sign

Is anybody else getting "Pick up: Not Eligible" for all 4 of the base iMacs (no BTO options)?

This seems to have cleared up. I still get some weird results on BTOs (for most stores it will say "see cart for availability"), but it's working properly on stock models. 3 of the 19 stores in my area have at least 1 of each iMac; most stores have availability of Sep 6, although there's some Sep 4 and Aug 31 as well.

The local best buy has the high end 27 as discontinued and it's been that way for a couple of months. All on hand inventory is low end 27 and both 21.5. Seems weird with the largest potential for sales during back to school Apple supply is last years low end desktops and the new laptop models. Pretty clear message and direction from Apple if you ask me. Either that or manufacturing delays.

Heisenberg principle? :)
I wonder what happens if all members of this forum are holding an iMac in their cart?
DDoS of sorts???

I hope so,the way Apple is managing Imacs sounds a little bit masochistic.

But as a retailer I'd think you don't want to be left hanging with the expensive stock when the new one comes out.
Seems that there should have already been something on the Market and it just has not appeared and many retailers are just filling with lower end units until an update. Must be tough being a buyer and trying to guess this market.

I would find it odd that Apple would alienate a demographic that helped propel them to where they are today...

Why would they care? They are a mobile device company.
What they need to worry about is losing the foundation for when it goes all Nokia in the iToyz market what's left...?

And there is a shrinking demographic that still would purchase a desktop machine. I just don't see them unceremoniously killing off a line like it was obsolete. Not following the Nokia reference. Thought they were bankrupt and closing down.

I don't think they will kill off the desktop - still need developers for apps...

Nokia was top of the game, as Apple is now (well Samsung by sales, but in terms of Market leader).
In a very short time Nokia the mighty multi-billion$ behemoth is nearly no more - the public zeitgeist is a fickle thing.
If all these pictures are the new iPhone there will be a lot of moaning that it is not 'new' (ref 4S) - and this could easily begin to translate into declining sales, couple that with crummy aftersales through a retail arm led by a proved incompetent in the tech sector. Then the longer term picture is only decline.

a new iMac is small potatoes and such an insignificant element to Apple now - and if it comes in 2012 we might not even know as the noise from the iPhone marketing machine will be deafening as we all 'need' to buy this one... the new iPhone needs to be another groundbreaker.

If it begins here then Nokia's fate awaits.

What other devices did Nokia have at the time? I think we're being a lil too much doomsday here. Industry analysist (as good as they are) predict high demand for the new iPhone so I don't think it's gonna be as big a miss as the folks here seem to think.

I agree the iMac is minuscule in the grand scheme of things. Their ability to drive/lead the market may be the bane of their post Steve Jobs existence. This to me could cause more potential harm than the new iPhone. What if thinner and lighter machines with key staples of todays machines removed aren't what all the masses want? We see each of their product lines heading that way and eliminating small segments of their market each time.

They are really betting their future that most advanced users don't want to upgrade anything in their Mac's. Their current designs are proving that. How many buyers will Apple lose when the cMBP with the upgradeability is gone? Not many but keep making product changes to drive the market and see where you are in a few years. I'm not saying to be stagnant but be mindful of you customer base and only lead us so far so fast.

I agree with the sentiment that the new iPhone appears to be more of the same in the pipeline. Siri was a gimmick and most people aren't splitting hairs over the 3D performance of a game running on the 4 vs 4s. I imagine the 5 will be much the same. You bet they'll try and whoop up NFC as the next big thing that "apple practically invented" - OMG I CAN PAY FOR STARBUCKS WITH MY PHONE?!! TEH FUTURE!!! =/

I sure hope the innovation isnt gone for good. All I see now is:

-random crappy add-in features (that you used to go just get shareware/freeware for) being thrown into OSX as a big reason why it's so great.

-A faster phone CPU as justification for yet another year without 4G or better battery life/thickness, etc.

-6 month delays on their FLAGSHIP product, the iMac, over a "screen lamination issue". (yes, flagship. It saved them from the brink and has been the face of the company, in terms of computing, since SJ's return).

It's sad to see apple get too big to be "neat" anymore. I think that like with Facebook at the moment, the atmosphere is growing ripe for a shift to something cool and new.

PS: WTF, WHERE ARE THE IMACS?!

It's ok mate, it is not your company :p If you don't like it (when it releases) don't get it lol. How did this turn into Where is the iPHONE5! thread?

It's not their flagship product any more. Apple said a few years ago that mobile Macs are their most profitable, and even all the revenue from their Macs is small in comparison to iPhone revenue.

Hopefully they'll be releasing an iMac with Retina display alongside the standard models, as they did with the MacBook Pro line.

Really wishing this rumor is true:

Rumor: New iMac ‘Within Two Weeks’

I wish so too, though its as faint as a rumor can get. One guy ordering iMacs at Amazon being told that the will get the new shipment in 2 weeks. It's pretty much the same as when some retailer guy here told that they got a huge batch 1.august....it never turned out to be anything else than a new batch of the same model. That it has new model designators, dunno what this means, but if its new model numbers then at least there's some hope.

One can only hope of course. I cross my fingers.

Rumor: New iMac ‘Within Two Weeks’

Our source was careful to say that they had not heard anything detailed about a new iMac, just that new stock wasn’t anticipated until at least the second week in September, and that it would be devices with new model designators, rather than the October 2011 versions of the iMac.

Interesting... I think they meant May 2011 iMac, not October.

I hope you're right.
My concern is ,my main concern is,what if i buy a MacbookPro for the Osx which runs on it and then the next years Apple throws out of the window (..not really funny) the last platform which runs a desktop Os to go all on Ios?
I think that if we don't see any new Apple's desktop between here and next 2013 Spring many of us will start to look to other platforms and speaking about me,because of my job (a little company with few desks but with the need to don't waste its investements because of the future Cook policies),this will be my last mac (because of Bootcamp which gives me time to observe and to replicate on windows side my setup even if with different Appz,Logic/Cubase,Pages/Word..and so on) ,while my colleagues will have orders for Windows8 machines.
If Apple doesn't want to make desktops anymore (perhaps doesn't mean nothing but Bob Mansfield is leaving) they better start to licence its Osx,in this way won't lose its MacApp store revenues, nor the chance who buy an I-Os device to properly connect to his "x-mac" platform and saving the Appstore earnings as well, because Jobs creates a ecosystem.
I have to say, while Cook is leading very well his new I-Toy machine of money,
who uses his machines to work deserves a better respect,(that laminated issues is a bad joke)because professional users WORK with their machines to earn money for their real life and my work its not a i-toy.
We can bla bla another year here but i won't invest all my energies on a platform which is going to die very innaturally while it still shines brightly.
And even if i'm not a developer,i don't see those avoiding the new windows8 market,(which is quite immature but from a company with the will to gain back,or maybe just try,the old Microsoft "glory"),i suppose they can just shift their skills and knowledge matured on Appstore to the Windows8 "dark side" store, with all ribbons ans stripes, sparkles and clean design(thats why Apple fought so much with Samsung..if really had a fight,i mean they are freenemies after all).
If this happens i don't see any reason to still buy an Iphone-Ipad if i can have the same on a more pro and LIVING platform.
OSX desktop in my opinion are the "APPLE's heel" ,thats why this delay is quite sad to see it happen.
I really thank you for your attention while my english lacks.
