But why are you concerned? What's in it for you if the watch is a success or a bust?

I think he outlined his concerns pretty straight forward there. If this launch version of the Watch is a bust, there will be inevitable repercussions on future releases. To the most extreme (and not going to happen, IMO) of Apple tapping out of the Watch market and never releasing another iteration. Thus those who love the Watch would not get future versions/updates. A more likely scenario would be if it under performs Apple would not devote all the resources to innovating and updating for future versions as they would if the initial product is a success. Thus Apple Watch lovers would be getting inferior future versions than they would if the Watch is a success.

Exactly - just look at the Apple TV.

And you would move on with your life just like you did before the Apple watch. It's not like air. You don't need it to live.

But why are you concerned? What's in it for you if the watch is a success or a bust?

If you enjoy using an Apple Watch, shouldn't the success of the Apple Watch concern you just a little? On a personal level I don't care if someone likes my watch or not, but I do want the Apple Watch to be a success so I can continue using one for years to come. Not only will the Apple Watch's success mean that I can buy a new and improved model years down the line, but it also means that the operating system for my existing watch will continue to be improved. It also means that more useful third party apps for the watch will become available.

It does bug me that there has been a lot of hyperbole in the media about the perceived failure of the watch, but mostly because I just don't like poor journalism and click-bait headlines. While there are some balanced and well written articles questioning the success of the Apple Watch, most of the negative articles I have seen appear to be grasping for reasons to declare the watch a failure ("You read it here first folks! The Apple Watch did not beat the Windows Phone!"). There were also a lot of early reviews by technology journalists who reviewed a device that clearly was not something that interested them. That's okay. It's not for everyone, but it seemed that everyone in the technology blogging business wanted to review it anyway.

I'm happy to tell people what I like and what I don't like about the watch if they are trying to decide whether or not they want one. I'm also happy to answer the questions of those who are simply curious. I thought I would get a lot more questions from people, but so far I have found that most people either don't notice the watch or don't care. Some people get excited, ask me if I like it and when I say, "Yes" that's the end of the conversation. A few will ask me a lot of questions...usually iPhone users who are thinking about getting one. The one consistent comment, even from those who have noticed and are not iPhone users, is that it looks nice.

Of course not... none of our technology is as essential as air, but it does impact our lives. Since the Apple Watch is basically an extension of the iPhone, it adds convenience but not functionality we can't get from our iPhones plus a less feature-rich fitness tracking device. Convenience may not be vital, but it can have a significant positive impact on our lives. What's wrong with a little concern about the success of a product that adds something positive to your life?

I was at my doctor appointment a few days back (it was the day after Apple did their quarter result release). The nurse taking my blood pressure noticed my Apple watch and said "Oh, You have one of those watch. I heard they didn't sell so well".

To play the devil's advocate here, maybe she noticed your blood pressure was too low and decided to take an initiative to raise it to normal levels and/or beyond :p

It seems like 99% of the population read headlines/tweets/1 line Facebook posts and use that as fact.

Media [news] companies aren't stupid, it's all about click-bait. So of course they will post a headline "Apple Watch FAIL" and that's all people see. From my non-Apple friends it appears they enjoy anything bad happening to Apple.

Apple Watch may not be perfect but just have to get used to the trolls and people who hate successful companies.

Haha, nowadays the media writes extremely biased stories with hidden agendas behind them...not very surprising... Just remember as the saying goes, "A lion does not concern itself with the opinions of sheep."

It's funny that you would single out Fox News as if they are the only news organization that cherry picks their stories and embellishes for the sake of viewership. You might want to expand your distain to cover all the other news organizations out there. None of them are unbiased or interested in reporting nothing but the facts.

Let me guess: You watch FauxNews, right? I can see how/why you needed to deliberately misquote and misrepresent my post. I NEVER said FauxNews was a "news organization". It's an -entertainment- network, the only difference being the fiction they broadcast is hateful and divisive.

However, like our mis-informed nurse in the OP, the danger exists when viewers/readers actually -believe- the nonsense they spin. And that, sadly, affects us all.

:D

In reality though, when I was recently in the clinic for a minor matter and the nurse was taking my BP and HR, we compared the machines reading to my :apple: Watch, they were exactly the same.

People are just plain jealous sometimes. Whether it is an Apple Watch or any other fancy/fancier objects, there will always be rude people that will criticize your choices or find irrational reasons to hate them but also the owner. Apple is hated by many people because it is known to be a brand that sells expensive products. However, you can't deny that they are more polished than the ones from the competitors. Success always bring jealousy from the others. Just life.. At the end of the day, who cares? As long as you enjoy it is all that matters.

Nope.

Sure, sure. You're right. I'm wrong. My mistake. If only I could be as informed as you, but alas, clearly I can't. Feel better now? Good.

So, you admit misrepresenting my post to serve your non-point? Good. At least that sets you apart from the entertainment network you seem desperate to defend.

As to the rest of you condescending post(s), need I remind you who went off topic?

Just to clear some things up here and stay on topic...

+1, nothing political here... they reported the same if not very similar stories about the watch as CNN...
Here's a story from CNN - http://money.cnn.com/2015/07/08/technology/apple-watch-demand-decline/index.html
Here's one from FoxNews - http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2015/07/22/is-apple-watch-success/

Everyone is talking about it in a very similar fashion because of the recent report released by Apple...so regardless, it's much more about getting the facts straight...

So, clearly you listen to only one news source, are very opinionated about FOX News, and have no clue what others report by these comments...again, see the links above, we're not talking politics, we're talking about the Apple Watch and whether or not it is as successful as Apple has hoped it would be. Their earnings report has some interesting information in it, and many news outlets (both leaning to the left and to the right) have reported similar stories and that is likely why someone who is not a fan with a biased opinion on the topic would have the thoughts of this nurse about the product.

Just one quick newsflash here...they're all entertainment networks...if they didn't entertain, people wouldn't watch... I watch a variety of these networks to see what each is saying so I don't fall victim to one sided views like this. Apple's earnings report is big news in the tech world, so when a topic like this comes up and interests you then perhaps it is best to do your research first before trashing other people's opinions. Fox News is the number one network with CNN in 2nd right now according to ratings...both of them must be doing something right...

Ah, and I do hate using this word, but why bother attempting to troll if that's the best you can come up with.
Don't really know what a troll is. I read these threads with people concerned with other people's opinions on the watch. Unless you work for Apple or are a shareholder, who the $&@% cares what other people think. It seems to bother some on here if some people don't care for an Apple product. Not everyone worships the ground that Apple works on.

The only thing clear here is the propensity of many in this forum to post OBVIOUS straw man arguments. I would love to know how you got that I only listen to one news source.

BTW, I wasn't the one who brought up politics.

Newsflash - tell us something new, Captain Obvious. Nobody was debating anything until another poster cherry picked a comment out of context and attempted to politicize the thread. Then you came on board along with the straw man. I seriously don't know who you are debating with.

You've obviously missed the point here...and just FYI, you did bring it up in your first post. Apologies if you thought my post was to "debate" something...it was merely to point out the actual facts regarding the topic since many news outlets were reporting the same thing regarding the Apple Watch as oppose to the false information you were posting in an attempt to share your disdain for FOX News. Those comments clearly say you have no clue what they're even saying on that network, hence the post of the two stories to inform you that the same thing was said on another network, that's all. Merely an attempt to help inform, if you think this is so obvious than it may be best reconsider your post. There is no debate...and definitely wasn't intended to go beyond that...hope that clears it up for you...

lol i am not surprised. people are stupid. i get a chain text at least every few weeks from friends warning about whatsapp viruses unless i forward the texts

Clearly you have no desire to actually read my posts, instead resorting to arguments that were never made (read: straw man).

So let's end the pointless debate, along with your condescending apologies. As I mentioned before, I have no idea who you are debating with, but clearly you have some sort of agenda. If you wish to continue, feel free to post if it suits you. I'll leave it up to someone else to take your bait.

Clickbaiters like to focus on the fact that there is one the costs $17,000 and the fact that Apple didn't sell as many as they did iPhones. Hell, USA Today had a story that said Microsoft sold more phones last quarter than Apple did watches.

People think news should be free, so they get it from untalented hacks. People trying to survive as quality informers fall victim to needing to resort to these tactics to survive. People in general don't know how to figure out many things they hear, so BS sticks.

Some people are also really good at finding "facts" to justify their opinions. You will see countless stories about market share as if that's why Apple is in business. As a holder of two Apple shares, I find it more comforting that Apple brings in profits instead of sacrificing quality and margins just to hit some number that doesn't mean anything.

So a colleague at work saw me for the first time with my watch. It was noon and he asked me:

"How many times have you already recharged your watch since this morning?"

I told him my battery lasted 1.5 days, even 2 and he said:

"Well, of course! Why would you need to recharge more often a thing that just shows notifications and does nothing more"

I went on and told him that it did much more than just showing notifications. And after the second phrase and looking at his face, I decided I didn't want to lose my time. He's an Android nuts and an Apple hater (not ever having used an Apple product in his life).

He likes his PCs and Android phones and he wore a Pebble for a while... and that's totally fine. He has never tried to convince me that his stuff is better than mine although he clearly believes paying the "Apple premium" is a waste of money.

It isn't anybody's job but Apple's to "get the facts right"...
