I don’t understand the obsession that *every* Apple TV should have Ethernet. It’s something probably 99% of people don’t use, so it’s illogical to assume it’s a “must have.” If you want Ethernet, you have an option to get one with it. If you’re already buying an Apple TV, the extra $30 isn’t breaking the bank.
I thought there was a rumor that the next Apple TV will get the same A19 Pro that the iPhone Air has? The A17 Pro is too old for a device that will be released in 2026.Why would they put a chip in there that’s already barely hanging on? Greedy, embarrassing.
Console gaming and AI. In other words, they want the Apple TV to be on the same page as the rest of their lineup when it comes to the latest features.Someone tell me what a new ATV4k gets us? Mine barely breaks a sweat and has outstanding PQ and speed. Why the need?
Me too…but it’s kinda laggy. Not to point it out and all..but….the move between the tiles is excruciating. But as a streaming device it’s marvellous.I still have the very first 4K version and happy with it. However I am beginning to consider upgrading if it will be worth of it.
Siri is a boat anchor that Apple needs to cut the line and let it sink to the bottom of the most colossal tech mistake of the decade sea.Siri maybe isn't ready for the big splash Apple would like to make.
I think if it has a camera, wouldn't it be best if it mounted on one of the sites of a TV?
Same here. Got a brand new 4K tv, wondering if a new Apple TV would improve image quality, especially as Netflix only provides HDR10+ to AV1 capable devices - the 3rd generation does not, the 4th generation might. So I'll just wait. The first gen 4K still works fine. The 2015 HD version upstairs does not, so I'd gladly shift the first gen upstairs and have a the 4th gen 4K (or 8K?) at the main TV.I still have the very first 4K version and happy with it. However I am beginning to consider upgrading if it will be worth of it.
Or they could just leave the low-end/home market to Amazon. At this point, Apple seem unlikely to be able to make their usual premium offering here. Amazon Fire sticks sell for around £20-30 on sale and work quite well, so a $99(+tax) device would need to be very special to make any kind of impact.Apple TV has so much potential but everytime something is not a hit Apple neglects it. This is not how to make something successful. How about do one for 99 which is just a streaming device and one for 199 which can be used as a console to play real console games and not that junk from the App Store.
Its good now but too overpriced for its use case which is streaming. A chip upgrade won’t make it suddenly successful. Its already overpowered for what it does. Its a glorified streaming machine. People won’t buy a device to stream Netflix if its already in the TV build in. Its not the 00s anymore. The new one needs to offer more than a smart TV does and needs to be 99.
Happy for you. Ours is the most unreliable Apple product I have owned! The current one works fine.
I can't play any high-res AV1 content due to lack of hardware decoder.Someone tell me what a new ATV4k gets us? Mine barely breaks a sweat and has outstanding PQ and speed. Why the need?
Gurman is such an asset to MacRumors, they get a story when he predicts something and another when he's wrong.

The market is getting smaller. Its not the 00s and 10s anymore. TVs are not great but they good enough today to open streaming apps. If there was still dumb TVs than I would agree. I would have bought a dumb one with a Apple TV box. But there is no dumb TV. All TVs are "smart" ones and most people are not going to spend another $129/169€ for a box that does the same thing as the TV and that is opening Netflix, YouTube and all the other streaming apps. Also then you have two remotes laying around, a box and more cables that collect dust, and there is a time lag if you open the TV with Apple TV.There definitely is a market for streaming sticks - Smart TV interfaces are generally poor and the hardware can be slow and can't be upgraded. I actively look for TVs/monitors that don't have "smart" features - better value and work better. But as I said, Amazon has the market pretty well cornered.
I do 4-6h gaming weekly on an ATV, even though I have current gen consoles no prob. There won’t be console gaming no matter what chip it has. Apple doesn’t care about that type of gaming, at all, and game producers aren’t going to support it.
If you want a console, get a console.

There's a good selection of arcade games on the App Store, which games run just fine even on an 2015 ATV, let alone on the able SoCs in the 4K ATVs.
Apple TV-App: Immersive content (AVP).I don’t really get Apple TV. What does it offer modern smart TV can not offer? Now there is even Apple TV app on smart TVs. Not trying to be rude. Just looking for a reason to buy one of these🤣
And an old car from 2000 can get you back and forth to the grocery store. The fact it works "fine" doesn't mean it can't work better...it can. The A17 Pro brings native AV1 decoding which many streamers use but current Apple TV boxes can't play. A more powerful chip could also bring better on-device decoding or "transcoding" from servers like Plex. The current one works fine.
Well, game producers already support it, as I play commercial games, not homebrew. Nobody said they needed to be AAA games. There were no AAA games on the iOS store when iphone/ipod touch released, yet silly little games where the bulk of what people were buying off the App Store. Rinse, repeat on ATV.That’s fine, it’s still not going to happen.
I’m not a gamer, and almost never play, but my kids do, and they have almost no interest in Apple Arcade games.. They will play Switch games all day.
It’s not going to be some AAA game machine. At beach it’ll be like the Netflix game experience, which I’m sure dwarfs the amount of people playing games on the Apple TV.
